Chapter 48: Chapter 48 Aftermath
After all the hunters had been pulled into the portal, it slowly shrank before vanishing into nothingness. A few hundred meters away from the palace, two figures emerged on the rooftop of a nearby building.
"Why couldn’t I eat them? Why couldn’t I eat them?!" one of them shouted as it jumped around anxiously.
It had an enormous upper body supported by short legs. Its large eyes bulged outward, while an unusually long tongue hung all the way down to its waist and constantly dripping saliva.
Across his long tongue was a mysterious tattoo written in an ancient language, bearing the number 96.
"Calm down, Morthen. Remember our real mission. We were only sent here to observe what they were capable of," the other man said calmly.
He was dressed in a black tuxedo and wore a large hat. A black eyepatch covered his left eye. He sat comfortably in a chair, leisurely sipping from a cup.
In front of him was a small table with several chess pieces arranged upon it. Almost all of the pieces had already fallen over, except for the King and Queen. He touched both pieces and slowly tipped them over.
A smile slowly spread across his face.
"Looks like we’ve found the next dungeon to raid."
"Eehh? Is that true, Caldris? We’re going to attack the dungeon where they came from? I’m so excited!" Morthen shouted as he jumped up and down in excitement.
Caldris slowly rose from his chair before reaching up and removing the eyepatch covering his left eye.
"This world has served its purpose. Let’s destroy this one... then meet the others and inform them."
He slowly opened his left eye. Revealed within it was an ancient symbol in the shape of the number 90.

In District 20, all the surviving hunters were now being examined by medics from the Hunter Association to check for any signs of radiation or intoxication caused by exposure to the other world.
"Mr. Arun! You can’t leave yet before we examine you!" one of the medics said as he stepped in front of Arun, blocking his path.
"This is just a waste of time! Everyone, let’s go!" He signaled the hunters from VolcaCorp before walking away.
Aside from a few minor injuries sustained during his battle against the knight inside the dungeon, he was in good condition. In the end, he had managed to defeat it.
"That guy sure looks grumpy," Lars said as he watched Arun’s group leave. He had already finished his medical examination and was now wearing his hoodie.
"You better not mess with him. He’s the one who ordered his people to search for you. He’s a pretty aggressive person. If I were you, I avoid him," Max said.
The three of them then walked toward the exit of the medical tent. As they stepped outside, Lars and Max noticed rows of bodies covered with white sheets.
There were nearly a hundred casualties and hundreds more were injured. Although Lars was relieved that he and his friends had survived without serious injuries, he still felt a heavy weight in his heart as he looked at the bodies.
The sight gave him a strange sense of deja vu.
"Let’s go, Lars." Max patted his shoulder before the two of them walked away.
As soon as they stepped outside, they immediately heard Justin’s voice.
"No! What are you doing?! That’s mine!"
Lars turned toward the commotion and saw Justin being restrained by two officers from the Dungeon Police. Standing in front of him were several others, including Inspector Cain.
Lars and Max immediately rushed over.
"What happened, Justin?" Lars asked.
"Lars! They’re trying to confiscate my phone! Please help me!" Justin shouted as he struggled to break free.
"What is the meaning of this?" Max asked as he looked at Cain.
"All information related to the Rogue Dungeon is highly classified and cannot be taken outside. It’s standard procedure," Cain explained.
"But that’s my source of income! It was worth tens of thousands of Zents!" Justin protested, refusing to give up.
Lars shook his head before signaling the officers to release Justin.
"Calm down, Justin. They’re just doing their job. There’s nothing we can do. Let’s just go," Lars said as he pulled him away.
He knew that no matter what they did, they were still ordinary citizens. There was no way they could go against the law. Cain and the other officers then turned and walked away.
"But... that’s..." Justin still couldn’t let it go.
"How about I pay for the cost?"
A woman’s voice suddenly interrupted them. They turned and saw Zane. She was smiling as she looked at them, especially at Lars.
"So beautiful. I mean, what do you mean by paying the cost?" Justin asked, momentarily mesmerized by Zane’s beauty.
Inside the dungeon, he had been so focused on his destroyed Mobile Server that he had completely forgotten there was such a beautiful woman.
"I’m sorry for overhearing your conversation. From what you said, I assume the contents of your phone are worth tens of thousands of Zents. So, I will pay for it," Zane said.
"Really?! You’re so kind!" Justin was just about to get excited when Max and Lars immediately placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Wait a minute! What’s all this about? There’s no reason for you to pay for Justin. What’s your motive?" Max asked. He was still wary of the leader of Mazeltov Company.
"It’s nothing. Consider it a gesture of gratitude for saving us back there. Is there something wrong with that?" Zane replied. She then turned toward Lars with a gentle smile.
"Am I right, Lars... or should I call you Anonymous214?"
Lars’s eyes instantly widened.Max reacted the same way. Justin, however, looked completely confused.
"Who is Anonymous214?"
Of all people, Justin was the one who was always out of the loop. He spent so much time focusing on his channel that he rarely had the chance to browse the forums.
"You’ve got the wrong person. Let’s go, you two."
Lars turned, intending to leave. However, Zane suddenly raised her arm, blocking his path.
"Judging from both of your reactions, it seems you really are him. Don’t worry. I’m the only one in my company who knows about it," Zane said, her eyes fixed on Lars.
Lars stared at her sharply before letting out a sigh. It seemed that no matter how much he denied it, this woman was simply too perceptive. He glanced at Max before finally speaking.
"What do you want from me?"
Zane’s eyes immediately lit up, and a wide smile spread across her face.
"Finally... I found you."
