Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Mystery and Ecstasy

"Come on! Faster! Faster!"

A heavily armored knight stood at the entrance of the palace, waving at the other guards to hurry inside. The situation was becoming increasingly hectic as screams echoed from all around them.

Suddenly, the man stopped one of the guards running past him.

"Hey! What’s the situation in the eastern part of the city?" he asked.

The guard’s face was filled with fear as he looked at the man.

"There’s no hope, Sir Gideon! The monsters... they’re everywhere. The people, they’re..." The guard’s words became stuck in his throat.

Gideon stared at him for a moment before letting him go.

"Go inside and help the others."

After a few minutes, there were no more people entering through the gate.

"Close the gate! Close the gate!" Gideon shouted.

Immediately, the guards on top of the wall nodded and began closing the massive gate. Without wasting any time, Gideon immediately ran toward the palace.

Roaaarr!!

He suddenly stopped as the roar of a monster echoed from far away.

"Looks like this is worse than we expected."

He then continued running. Along the hallway, he saw many injured soldiers and commoners, but he had no time to stop and help them.

Finally, he arrived at the Throne Room, only to be shocked by what he saw.

A group of magicians in robes were surrounding a large red crystal in the middle of the room. The king sat on his throne, watching the mages, while the queen and their young children looked terrified beside him.

On both sides of the room, many nobles had already gathered, their expressions grim.

Gideon walked past the mages and immediately knelt before the king.

"My King! What is the meaning of this? Are we really going to use the mysterious crystal given to us by those shady individuals?" Gideon asked.

"Sir Gideon, there is no other way. If what those two people told us is true, then we have no other choice but to rely on this magical crystal," the king said. He was a middle-aged man with a thick white beard.

"But..." Gideon wanted to protest, but one of the nobles immediately interrupted him.

"Just be quiet, Sir Gideon! Did you not see what those monsters can do?! They are extremely strong and bloodthirsty! None of the knights or soldiers here can fight them. Not even you!"

"Yes! I agree with the Duke! We can only pray that this crystal will bring us help!"

The other nobles quickly voiced their agreement, all saying the same thing.

"Tch!" Gideon clenched his teeth.

It was true that he was weak compared to those monsters. But to think that they were so shortsighted as to rely on something they didn’t even know what it could possibly bring.

He slowly stood up and watched as the ritual neared completion.

"Please... help us escape from this nightmare," the king muttered.

The crystal suddenly shone brightly before shooting a beam of light upward into the sky, passing through the ceiling without destroying it.

Above the palace at the center of the city, a distortion appeared where the beam of light pointed. Then, space itself seemed to swirl and twist before forming a massive red portal.

It was already nighttime in District 21. Lars closed the door to his room before placing the food he had bought on the table and sitting down to enjoy it.

As he ate, he checked the current votes on his forum post.

"Hmm... it seems most of them want Assassin. It’s very close with Mage at the moment. Let’s see if the poll changes tomorrow," Lars muttered with his mouth full of food.

After finishing his meal, he sat on the floor and made a call.

"Hey, Mr. Chan! I’ve transferred another 100 thousand Zents to you. Now there’s only 500 thousand Zents left."

(Okay, brat! Make sure you settle everything before the end of the year.)

Whenever Lars had enough money, he would send 100 thousand Zents to Mr. Chan’s company.

For him, settling his debt with that guy was his highest priority right now. If he failed to pay everything by the end of the year, his head would surely be gone.

Then, he brought out all the Class Books he had purchased today. In total, he had spent around 100 thousand Zents. The old Lars would never have spent this much money so easily, but the current Lars already had a plan.

"I will use Extract Class on all these Class Books and see what components I can get. Then, I will also purchase some packs today. It’s been ages since I opened one that I almost completely forgot about them," Lars said as he looked at his system.

Right now, he had nearly 15 thousand Creator Coins.

"Alright! Now, which class should I extract first?" Lars rubbed his hands together and licked his lips.

All the Class Books he had bought ranged from Uncommon to Rare rank, priced from around 2,000 Zents to as high as 20 thousand Zents for the Rare ones.

As for Unique-rank Class Books and above, Lars considered them far beyond his current budget.

The first book he picked up was Zephyr Mage. It was an Uncommon-rank class. He immediately used Extract Class, and the book vanished into particles.

"What? What just happened?" Lars was surprised.

The system explained.

"Nooo... my 2,000 Zents... it’s all gone just like that." Lars felt like crying.

He then picked up another book. This time, it was Polar Axeman, another Uncommon-rank class.

"Both Polar and Axeman are something I don’t have yet. Maybe this one will work."

He then used Extract Class again.

"Yes! I got it! I got a new Skill Subset!" Lars cheered.

He then continued extracting the Class Books until his CP was completely depleted.

In total, he obtained five new Skill Subsets, three new Base Classes, and two new Class Roles. Lars smiled happily as he looked at his newly expanded list of features.

But for now, he couldn’t do anything with them because his CP was completely empty.
