Chapter 144: Dreaming

His side of the bed lowered slightly to accommodate his weight as he climbed into bed. Maya reminded herself how weird it would look if she were smiling too brightly at him. So she kept her expression neutral but her eyes never strayed from him.

She was happy. She didn’t know how long this would last or if this would change their continuous interactions, but right now, she would savor it as long as she could. She knew this memory would stay with her for a very long time.

Despite the gap between them, she could feel his warmth as he settled in bed. She had pulled the covers over her naked body but his body heat superseded the warmth the covers offered her.

She pressed her cool hands to her chest. The cold had never bothered her but she did love how warm she felt when she was close to him—both inside and out.

She closed her eyes as she tried to get some sleep; she couldn’t keep staring at him. However, too many unbelievable things had happened tonight, and she was still reeling from them. Perhaps tomorrow wasn’t too soon to share the news of who she really was.

Her eyes flew open as she heard movement on the bed. Keenan had rolled toward her and was only an inch away. She pressed her hands tighter to her chest, feeling her cool breath bounce off him.

Was that why he asked her to take her clothes off?

She tilted her head so she could see his face and his bright green eyes looked down at her. She let out a sharp breath. Did he want to have sex again? They had never done it twice in a night before.

His legs moved first, brushing against her. She held her breath but didn’t move closer. She didn’t want to be presumptuous. She was fine with whatever he wanted; she had already taken hers.

His eyes didn’t look away, and his hand moved to her chin. He lifted her chin and his lips pressed against hers. Maya released the breath she was holding as she melted into his hands.

They had been married for nearly a month now and he had never kissed her—not even on their wedding night. But tonight, he had kissed her not once but thrice. She may have initiated, but not once did she expect things to go so well.

His lips felt warm against hers; he tasted sweet, like apples, and there was a slight tang that she couldn’t get enough of. She moved closer as her hands reached for him. She wanted to keep kissing him for as long as she could.

Her hand moved to his chest instinctively and she felt the thick, rough skin of his scar. She tried to pull away but his hand slightly held her in place. It wasn’t an obvious gesture and it felt more reflexive than anything, as he pulled his hand away almost immediately.

However, that was enough.

She could feel the corners of her eyes water. She was certain she was dreaming. She was certain that she would wake up and things would be exactly how they used to be. There was no way this was real.

She lightly traced the scar with the tips of her fingers, and Keenan made a satisfied sound against her. His hand moved to her chest and he let out a loud sigh as he cupped her breast.

She gasped against him; her hand on his chest faltered as the warmth from his hand permeated her whole body and set her body ablaze.

She could feel his erection against her stomach, and the thought of reaching down and touching him crossed her mind. Maya hammered down on these thoughts. She had already gotten so much; now was not the time to get greedy.

"Oh," she moaned against his lips as his fingers teased her nipple. He was so gentle she could cry. His gentle touch contrasted with the bubbling heat in her.

He broke the kiss, pulling his face away from her but she could still feel his breath on her face. She opened her eyes; it took a while for her vision to adjust. When it did, Maya wished she could keep the moment frozen in time as he stared at her with such desire.

He mumbled something she didn’t hear as he took her lips one more time and pulled her against him. She let herself sink into his rhythm and she let the pleasure take her.

Maya woke up with a start. Her eyes flew open but her vision wasn’t very clear—more like she couldn’t quite understand what she was seeing.

She attempted to move and soon realized she had once again wrapped herself around his arm and the view she didn’t understand was the top of his shoulder. Her eyes widened and she tried to pull away.

"You’re awake," he said and pulled his hand away as he moved to a sitting position. He twirled it and stretched it, wincing slightly.

"I am so sorry, Alpha Keenan," she quickly said as she moved to a sitting position. She couldn’t believe she had done it again.

As soon as she moved, Maya regretted her decision. Her head suddenly felt heavier than normal and there was a slight twist in her stomach. Had she moved too quickly?

She winced and grabbed her head. Keenan noticed immediately and turned to look at her with a slight frown.

"Are you unwell?" He asked.

She shook her head and pulled her hand from her head. The pain had faded, but the uncomfortable feeling in her stomach remained.

"I must have sat up too quickly," she replied as she looked at him with a smile.

His brows knotted and his eyes strayed from her face to her exposed chest. Maya’s face reddened as she recalled she was naked.

She quickly pulled the covers over her chest, and he gave her an odd stare as he got out of bed.

"You overslept," he said.
