Chapter 123: THE WAR IN HIS HEAD

The police officers had surrounded the building. Because they were focused on Seara and Zade, they were too late to notice how close the police were and did not have time to implement Asher’s plan to lure them away.

The police managed to follow the blood trail that came from Seara, since she was bleeding a lot from the bite on her arm.

Not only that, but the police also brought dogs with them; they could hear their barking. At least, there were three.

And when they opened the door to the basketball court, they were stunned to see a few people inside and the young woman who had been taken by a giant wolf earlier. She was bleeding profusely, and someone was holding her.

"She is here! There are a few people here too!" They informed their fellow police officers and then entered the court cautiously with guns in their hands, trying to spot any danger or wolf around.

However, to their surprise, they found both Zephyr and Ace were there. The two men were well-known businessmen, and most of the officers had seen both of them in the news.

Therefore, it was easy to recognize them.

"Mr. Sol? Mr. McCoy? What are you doing here, sir?" Some police approached them and tried to check their well-being, since they were covered in blood.

But none of them were familiar with Zade, Altair, or Asher. The other two Lycans had the same situation as Zade, where their royal beta and gamma were better known in public.

"We are running into a pack of wolves and hiding here," Ace replied curtly. He nodded at Zade and Seara. "Call the ambulance and help them first. The woman is heavily injured."

[Well, that’s a close call.] Asher talked through the mindlink.

It was indeed a close call. Seara managed to get Zade back into his human form, only a few seconds before the police entered the court.

Even so, it didn’t mean Zade was safe to be around humans. He had regained control, but his beast side was still strong. It was as if he were waging a war within himself, and one wrong move could cause him to lash out. You could sense the intense battle brewing in his mind.

Because of that, Altair and Asher came to Zade’s side when two police officers were trying to get Seara away from him so they could check on her condition, since she was the worst among them.

"Back off," Zade said darkly; his body was trembling. The war in his head still crippled him from reality. He was holding onto Seara as if his life were on the line, since she was his only anchor to stay sane.

"Sir, we need to check on her."

"I said. Back. The. Fuck. Off."

There was something in the way Zade talked that made them startle and stop approaching him. Even the three dogs whimpered and tried to get out of the court.

"Zade," Seara said. She clutched onto him and lightly shook his hand so that he would pay attention back to her. Otherwise, she feared he would succumb to his beastly instincts.

If it happened, the existence of the shifters would be exposed, and there was only one way out of that: killing these people, which would only put them into more trouble, since it had a strong effect on them when they killed humans.

"Where is the ambulance? We will take her there," Asher said.

Meanwhile, Altair mind-linked Zade, but because Zade still blocked them out, he had no other choice but to speak in a low voice.

"We need to get some help for her, or else she will bleed to death." Altair kept a safe distance from Zade, and he didn’t dare to take Seara away from him.

Both of them knew Zade was still unstable, and if any of them dared to touch his mate, he was going to lose it.

"Let’s go, Zade. Carry your mate. She needs help. She is bleeding." Altair was handling Zade, while Asher convinced the police to let Zade carry her himself.

On the other hand, Zephyr and Ace were talking to the police too, who asked them where the wolves had gone and what had happened.

"We can talk about that later," was the only thing that Ace and Zephyr said before they left with Zade, who carried Seara away.

Zade had been very quiet. He didn’t engage with anyone who asked about his condition and would glare down at anyone who tried to touch him.

Thankfully, Asher was there to smooth things over, while Altair looked like he didn’t give a fuck as he sat down on the single sofa in the hospital.

Seara received twenty-two stitches on her left arm, where the beast had bitten her, and she also had even more wounds on her back from being dragged across the jagged asphalt. Bruises covered her skin, and there were more wounds on her legs and arm.

Zade was there during the stitches, and Asher didn’t have another choice but to stay as well, just in case. It would be even more dangerous if Zade lost control in this place.

Thankfully, Rio was the one who handled her, so he was more familiar with Zade’s situation. There was no nurse there because he couldn’t afford to aggravate Zade with a lot of people around him.

"I need to clean up your back. Can you sit down?" Rio asked Seara, and she nodded.

Zade helped her to sit down, but before Rio could cut her clothes, Zade glared at Asher and Altair, who were in the room.

"Out," he said curtly. But when they didn’t move, Zade lost his patience. "Get out of that door, or I will throw you out of the window."

"You do realize that it will not kill us, right?" Asher raised his brows.

"I will throw your head first—and then your body."

Altair then dragged Asher out of the room.
