City’s Best Divine Doctor
Chapter 2267 - 2227: News of Hirano Seiko
That night, Ye Qiu continued cultivating the Primordial Five Emperors Technique. He knew he had absorbed a lot more Spiritual Energy again, and the next breakthrough shouldn’t be far off.
He planned to go with Ling Fei to visit her grandma again the next day, and then treat her grandma’s heart disease.
But early the next morning, just as Ye Qiu got up, he received a call from Zhou Wenting.
"Wenting, calling this early—what’s up?"
"Do you still remember those students from the plague zone?"
Students from the plague zone?
Back then there were students who went over, and professors too, basically teachers and students from the Southwest medical school.
He didn’t have deep impressions of many of them. Those few students who acted as his assistants back then, judging by their level, were actually not bad.
"What about them?"
"Those few students came over to apply for jobs."
Came to apply?
Ye Qiu was quite surprised. Back then they said they wanted to follow Ye Qiu and stick with him, but Ye Qiu simply couldn’t afford to spend that much time on this.
Still, it was around that time Ye Qiu realized he needed to establish an antiviral drug research lab like this.
"Then just let them stay."
"You said it."
Once Ye Qiu confirmed, he hung up.
He washed up, went downstairs—Ye Weidong and his wife and Ye Xue were all there, and Lin Xiang had gotten up too, getting ready to go to school.
After Xiaomai finished making breakfast and Ye Qiu ate, he drove to Jin University together with Lin Xiang.
On the way, he called Ling Fei.
"Ling Fei, when are your self‑study periods this morning?"
Undergrads have quite a lot of self‑study time. Freshmen and sophomores, even juniors aren’t that busy; it’s mainly in senior year that things really pick up.
"I’ve got self‑study in third and fourth period."
"Then wait for me around then, I’ll go with you to see your grandma again."
Her grandma’s heart disease hadn’t been cured yet; Ling Fei knew that.
So doing that was obviously for the best.
Ye Qiu drove to Jin University and went back to the small classroom first. Unexpectedly, the two morning periods were clinical medicine anatomy again. Ye Qiu really didn’t feel like going, and he ended up being the only one left in the classroom.
After sitting there for one period, he decided to head to the library.
But Ye Qiu hadn’t expected to run right into Akino.
He hadn’t seen this kid from the East Ocean in a long time and had assumed he’d gone back home.
"Akino, it’s you?"
"Doctor Ye, long time no see."
"Where’ve you been lately? I haven’t seen you at all this semester."
"I’ve been at Jin University the whole time, but this semester I’ve been busy making up credits, so I rarely go to the karate dojo."
After being taught a lesson by Ye Qiu before, he’d realized karate wasn’t actually all that powerful. However, the Turtle School Qigong Ye Qiu taught him—he’d kept cultivating it all along, and found that besides his physique getting a lot stronger, he still didn’t feel anything like the level Ye Qiu had.
He really had no idea how Ye Qiu cultivated his Inner Strength.
Akino was already a senior now; once he graduates and gets his diploma next year, he’ll go back home.
"How’s the imperial cuisine business over there?"
Ye Qiu had never asked; he’d only heard that business over there had been pretty good before.
That "imperial cuisine" was called Huaxia Imperial Court Cuisine in the East Ocean, high‑end dishes that only higher‑income East Ocean folks would go for.
Of course, imperial cuisine had also boosted the status of the Akino Family’s chain restaurants.
"My parents say business is great; they’ve opened many more branches now."
There are over a hundred million people in the East Ocean, and countless cities big and small. Even opening just one restaurant per city would be massive.
"But Hirano Seiko keeps asking about you."
Hirano Seiko?
That girl from the East Ocean?
If Akino hadn’t mentioned her, Ye Qiu would’ve almost forgotten.
"What does she say about me?"
"She always asks me how you’re doing here back home. Actually, she wants to apply to study abroad at Jin University too, but her paperwork hasn’t gone through yet."
Jin University is a top institution in Asia, basically on par with universities in the East Ocean, so it’s perfectly normal that she’d want to come here.
Still, Akino didn’t really know much about Ye Qiu’s situation. Besides occasionally hearing some news about Ye Qiu, he hadn’t gone out of his way to learn more.
After chatting with Akino for a bit, Ye Qiu headed for the library.
He hadn’t expected that just as he arrived, Lin Wanqing walked out.
Last time, when Lin Wanqing talked to Ye Qiu about studying abroad, she had actually been laying her feelings bare.
Lin Wanqing didn’t want to go abroad.
But her parents still insisted she go.
Now, seeing Ye Qiu, Lin Wanqing’s face broke into a wide smile as she went over to him.
"What are you smiling at?"
"Nothing."
The two of them went up to the reading room on the library’s upper floor.
The reading room was very quiet; basically the only sounds were confident students studying, and pages turning.
Ye Qiu went and picked up a book.
Lin Wanqing couldn’t make heads or tails of it—it was probably in some minor foreign language.
"What language is this?"
"Greek."
Greek?
And Ye Qiu actually understood Greek.
Lin Wanqing was so stunned her eyes almost popped out. If Ye Qiu’s English were excellent, she wouldn’t be surprised, since she knew he’d gotten a perfect score on the college entrance exam to get into Jin University.
But Greek—there probably weren’t many people in the whole school who could read it.
Even in Jin University’s foreign languages department, students studying minor languages like Greek weren’t likely to be many.
"What’s it about?"
"Ancient Greek mythology."
Ancient Greek myths are also circulated in China, but those are all translations; the original flavor is still in Ancient Greek.
Ye Qiu naturally could read it just fine.
Those ancient European histories, especially ancient Greece, read almost like myths.
But are they really myths?
Maybe part of them is, and part of them might well be real.
Ye Qiu also knew that many people would never get to see true history, and a lot of what we call history is compiled by later generations from scraps of material.
However, for someone like him, who literally came from the Heavenly Court Imperial Medical Bureau, when it came to these so‑called ancient Greek myths, aside from doubting some of their authenticity, he suspected quite a few events might actually be real.
"Why are you reading this stuff?"
"To understand this world."
Ye Qiu really had been trying to understand this world.
From when he had first arrived and was fascinated by things like bicycles, to now, where all these transportation tools felt normal, even part of his daily life.
If he ascends back to the Heavenly Court Imperial Medical Bureau in the future, with no computers or internet, he isn’t sure whether he’d be able to get used to it.
Lin Wanqing had no idea what was going through Ye Qiu’s mind.
"My parents are still determined to send me to Vienna to study abroad."
"Didn’t I tell you? The teachers over there are at about the same level as that French piano prince from last time."
There used to be tons of great masters, but in modern times they’re rare. In his view, the level at home and abroad in this area isn’t all that different.
