Chapter 380: Chapter 380 I Only Hope You Won’t Regret This
Mila’s POV
I’d spent the afternoon questioning our decision. When Titus and I first discussed asking Emilia to divorce Sebastian, I’d felt sick. They were fated mates, and anyone could see how much they loved each other. But we were responsible for the pack’s future, not just our son’s happiness.
When Sebastian came home that night, I stayed downstairs, twisting my handkerchief while I waited for Emilia to tell him.
Soon, I heard their voices upstairs. Emilia spoke firmly, while Sebastian sounded increasingly upset. Then I heard my son cry.
I covered my mouth and sank onto the sofa. I’d known he would be hurt, but hearing him made it impossible to hide behind our reasons. I had helped cause this.
By the time I went upstairs, Emilia was gone. I followed her to the airport, begged her to stay, and pushed a check into her pocket. She dropped it at my feet and boarded the plane.
I came home without her.
The next morning, Sebastian didn’t go to work. He lay on his bedroom floor with his eyes open, refusing to speak. I went upstairs three times. Eventually, I returned to the living room and cried.
Titus found me there and sat beside me. He rested a hand on my back.
"Try not to upset yourself."
"I think we’ve made a terrible mistake." I turned toward him. "What if Sebastian collapses again? What if his body can’t take this?"
"He’ll get through it." Titus rubbed my back. "It will take time, but he won’t always feel this way. Once the baby is born, he’ll have something else to focus on. Abigail said the same thing."
"Emilia hates us now. I begged her to stay, and she still left."
"Perhaps some time away will help her." He looked toward the empty fireplace. "She was unhappy even before Abigail returned. A change might be good for her. She could find something better for herself."
"She was good to this family." I wiped my eyes. "I’ll always regret losing her."
"If they truly love each other, they may find their way back," he said, squeezing my hand. "They’re mates. That bond doesn’t disappear because she’s gone away."
I wanted to believe him. But we had asked them to separate, and now we were relying on their bond to repair the damage.
At dusk, we heard footsteps on the stairs. Sebastian came down slowly, and I stood, relieved to see him out of his room. Then he spoke.
"Bring Abigail here tomorrow."
Titus and I exchanged a glance. I stepped toward Sebastian, unsure I’d heard him correctly.
"What did you say?"
"Bring Abigail here."
"Why?" Titus asked. "What’s changed?"
Sebastian stopped in front of us. His calm frightened me more than his anger had.
"It’s what she wants. It’s what you both want." He looked from Titus to me. "So I’ll give it to you."
He walked toward the front door before either of us could answer. As he opened it, he spoke again.
"I hope you don’t regret this one day."
The door closed behind him. I caught Titus’s sleeve, but he seemed no more certain than I was.
Near midnight, Fynn brought Sebastian home. My son could barely stand, his arm draped over Fynn’s shoulders and his head hanging forward. The smell of whiskey reached me before they crossed the hall.
I hurried over and held Sebastian’s face between my hands. He looked pale and exhausted.
"I’m sorry," I whispered. "Sebastian, I’m so sorry."
He didn’t respond. His eyes passed over me without recognition, and I couldn’t tell whether he’d heard a word.
Fynn helped him upstairs. I stayed in the hall, staring after them, unsure whether my son would want me near him when he woke.
"You wanted to protect the pack," my wolf said. "Was this worth it?"
I had no answer. All day, I’d wanted Titus to convince me we’d done the right thing. Now I was afraid we’d made the worst mistake of our lives.
Abigail’s POV
My phone rang while I was folding a sweater. The moment I heard Mila Simons’s voice, I stopped.
"Emilia has left," she said. "Sebastian has agreed to let you move in tomorrow."
I sat on the edge of my bed, holding the phone tightly. Finally. After everything I’d endured, I was getting what I wanted.
I thanked her twice and hung up. Then I hurried around my little apartment, pulling out every bag I owned.
As I packed, I pictured Sebastian and me walking together, our child between us, holding our hands. We would be a family. It was the life I should have had all along.
Three knocks interrupted me. I opened the door, and my smile faded.
Damien Zordon stood outside with a guitar on his back.
"You’re back."
"Yeah." He stepped inside and set the guitar against the wall.
"Where have you been? You were gone for ages." I went to make him tea, hoping he wouldn’t notice the open bags.
"On tour. We played all over the country."
He accepted the cup, then looked down at my stomach. His hand stopped halfway to his mouth.
"Abigail," he said. "Are you pregnant?"
There was no point hiding it. "It’s Sebastian’s child."
The cup slipped from his hand and shattered on the floor. Neither of us moved to pick it up.
"I’m moving into his house tomorrow," I continued. "We’re getting married. Emilia has left."
