Chapter 377: Chapter 377 Do You Want to Know How I Got Pregnant?
Emilia’s POV
Sebastian had come home late the night before. I hadn’t asked about the results, and he hadn’t mentioned them. If the baby wasn’t his, he would have told me the moment he walked through the door.
I’d spent two months preparing for this. It still hurt more than I’d expected.
He looked exhausted, his shoulders slumped and his eyes red. I put my own pain aside and held him. We lay together in the dark until he finally spoke.
"The child is mine."
"I know." I ran my fingers through his hair. "I’ll raise him as my own. I promise."
Neither of us spoke again that night. I held him until morning, wondering whether I could keep the promise I’d just made.
"You always do this," Eve said. "Look after everyone except yourself."
"Someone has to."
"When is it your turn?"
I had no answer. Sebastian left for the office, and I stayed by the window until my phone rang.
"Hello?"
"It’s Abigail."
"I worked that out. What do you want?"
"Meet me. We need to talk."
"Where?"
She paused, apparently surprised I’d agreed without an argument. "The Red Rose Club."
"I’ll be there in an hour."
I hung up and chose a fitted navy dress and heels. Then I pinned back my hair, put on red lipstick, and added enough blush to hide the sleepless night.
Abigail didn’t need to know how badly I was hurting. She would meet the Luna of Silver Moon, not a woman who’d spent the night crying.
"Dressing for a fight?" Eve asked.
"I might as well look good for it."
The Red Rose Club had velvet booths, soft lighting, and expensive drinks. Abigail waited at a corner table in a tight dress that showed off her growing belly. She rested a hand on it as I approached.
I sat across from her.
"You came alone," she said. "Brave."
"I don’t need help having a conversation with you."
A waiter brought my coffee.
"You know the results," she said.
"Yes."
"Then what now?" She leaned back. "Are you going to congratulate me?"
"I have a proposal." I took a sip. "You can spend the rest of your pregnancy somewhere comfortable. After the baby is born, Sebastian and I will raise him. You’ll receive a generous payment and leave."
She stared at me, then laughed.
"Why would I give you my child? He’s going to make me Luna." She smirked. "I don’t need a barren woman playing mother to my baby."
"You’ve taken enough interest in my health to know there’s still a chance I’ll recover. The doctors haven’t ruled it out."
Her smile faded, and I set down my cup.
"If I have a child, you won’t be the only woman who can give this family an heir. Consider your son’s future instead of assuming he guarantees yours."
"You’re bluffing. You’re infertile, Emilia. Stop pretending you have a choice."
"I’ve made you an offer. For the baby’s sake, think about it."
"Don’t pretend you care about him. You want my baby because you can’t have one." She leaned forward. "Sebastian keeps you around because he feels sorry for you. Once I give him a son, you’ll leave that house, and no one will miss you."
I stared at her. "You tricked another woman’s husband into getting you pregnant, and you’re actually proud of it."
Her smile vanished. Then she gave a bitter laugh.
"Yes, I lied and cheated. So what?" She touched her belly. "Do you want to know how I got pregnant?"
"No."
"I’ll tell you anyway. There were two drugs in your husband’s drink that night. One to make him sleep, and one to turn him on."
My stomach turned. She watched me, pleased that she finally had my attention.
"I was only going to use the second one," she continued. "But he was so devoted to you that I didn’t want to take any chances. So I added the sleeping pills."
"He couldn’t even stay conscious." I stared at her. "And you’re bragging about it?"
"I’d also been taking fertility medication for a month." She shrugged. "I wasn’t leaving the pregnancy to chance."
For a moment, I couldn’t speak. Sebastian had blamed himself for trusting her and not seeing the trap. She was sitting here smiling as she described what she’d done to him.
I picked up my coffee and threw it in her face.
She screamed as it ran down her cheeks and onto her dress. Conversations stopped around us.
"Oops," I said. "My hand slipped."
"You bitch!" She wiped at her face, smearing her mascara. "I’m pregnant!"
"And you just told me how you made that happen." I stood. "You drugged my husband and took advantage of him when he couldn’t consent. That’s called R-A-P-E."
She opened her mouth, but I wasn’t finished.
"I’ve been patient, Abigail. Don’t mistake that for permission to say whatever you like. Push me again, and you’ll regret it."
Her hands shook as she reached for a napkin.
"You’re only acting like this because Sebastian loves you," she snapped. "But he can’t fight his parents forever. He can’t fight a pack that needs an heir. They’ll choose Silver Moon. Where will that leave you?"
I looked at her, almost sorry for her. Even now, she was counting on everyone except Sebastian to give her the marriage she wanted.
"Why are you still chasing someone who stopped loving you years ago?" I asked. "You had to drug him to get near him. How do you turn that into a love story?"
"Shut up."
"Someone else stayed and loved you while you chased Sebastian." I shook my head. "You gave up Damien for this."
Her face went pale. For a moment, she looked hurt rather than angry.
"Don’t say his name. You don’t know anything about us."
"I know he loved you."
"And Sebastian loved me before you came along!" Her voice rose. "You turned him against me. Once you’re gone, he’ll remember what we had. He’ll come back."
She crumpled the napkin in her hand. "And you have no right to lecture me about Damien. You’re not better than me."
"Eve, is there any point in continuing this?"
"Not unless you’ve developed a taste for being shouted at."
I picked up my bag. Nothing I said would change her mind, and I’d heard enough.
"I came to offer you another option, for your child’s sake. You’ve made your answer clear." I put the strap over my shoulder. "Good luck, Abigail. You’ll need it."
I walked toward the door, but she called after me.
"You don’t want to leave him. I know that. But someone will make you go, whether you like it or not."
I kept walking, refusing to give her another argument.
"When that happens, I hope you’re still this confident," she added. "I’d love to see how long it lasts."
