Chapter 353: Chapter 353 Where Did Fynn Go?

Emilia’s POV

I went to work with Sebastian as planned.

He drove, I rode shotgun. By the time the elevator spat us out onto the executive floor, I’d already made up my mind to act like I owned the place.

I drifted past Fynn’s desk, then Sebastian’s, and let my gaze skim over the stacks of files, the sticky notes, the half-dead coffee cup somebody had abandoned. The sheer volume of paperwork made my eye twitch.

"Has it ever once crossed that enormous brain of yours," I said, propping a hip against the desk, "to hire a couple of gorgeous secretaries to take some of this off your plate?"

Sebastian shrugged out of his coat and hung it with maddening precision. "Company secrets. I only trust Fynn with them." He glanced at me, and that slow smirk tugged at his mouth. "And now, of course, you."

"Oh, be still my heart. Such faith." I pressed a hand to my chest and batted my lashes at him. "Truly, I’m honored beyond words."

He rolled his eyes and waved me off toward Fynn’s office.

I settled in behind Fynn’s desk, kicked off my heels under it where no one could see, and started digging through everything Sebastian hadn’t gotten around to.

It took me half a morning, maybe less, to crack the rhythm of it all. The man ran a tight ship, I’d give him that. Within a few hours, I’d sorted the pending contracts, flagged the urgent ones, and drafted replies to three clients who’d been left hanging.

By noon, I was drowning in a sea of memos, and my stomach was staging a loud, undignified rebellion.

I pushed back from the desk and headed for Sebastian’s office to drag him out for lunch, whether he liked it or not.

The elevator at the end of the hall chimed. The doors slid open, and Tiffany came barreling out like someone had set the back of her skirt on fire. She spotted me, closed the distance in three strides, and latched onto both my hands.

"Emilia! Where’s Fynn?" Her eyes were enormous, her grip surprisingly fierce for someone so slight.

I shook my head. "All I know is he’s off somewhere on vacation. I don’t have his exact coordinates, sweetheart."

Her brows slammed together. "I already found out that Fynn and Willow broke up! And I know why, too! So why on earth didn’t you bring me along that day?"

I bit back a sigh. "Because if you’d been there, the whole plan would’ve gone sideways."

"I wouldn’t have ruined anything!"

"Tiffany." I was exhausted, starving, and running on fumes, so I answered on autopilot. "It’s done. It’s over. Let it go."

"Do you know where Fynn is or not?" she pressed, undeterred.

"I genuinely don’t. And honestly? Do you really think that if I knew, I’d keep it from you?"

She studied my face for a long moment, searching for the lie. When she couldn’t find one, her chin came up, stubborn as her brother’s.

"Fine. Then I’ll go ask Sebastian. He’ll know."

Oh no. Here we go.

I trailed after her toward Sebastian’s office, resigned to the carnage about to unfold.

He looked up when she burst in, then his gaze slid past her shoulder to me, standing sheepishly in the doorway. One dark brow climbed.

Trouble, his expression said. You brought me trouble.

I lifted my hands in surrender and mouthed, Not my fault.

Tiffany planted herself in front of his desk, eyes already going pleading. "Sebastian, where did Fynn go?"

"I don’t know," he said firmly.

"Impossible!" she cried. "How could you not know? You just don’t want to tell me, do you?" She glared at him with the full, wounded fury.

"How exactly am I supposed to know?" Sebastian leaned back in his chair, unbothered. "I can’t read the man’s mind, can I?"

"I think he’d at least tell you where he was going!"

Sebastian exhaled through his nose, long-suffering. "He’s a grown man, Tiffany. He has his own life. He doesn’t report his every move to me. You’ve got a few months left before you graduate. Focus on your studies and stop pining after him day and night."

But no matter how she begged, how she wheedled, how she pulled out every teary-eyed trick in her arsenal, Sebastian held the line like a stone wall. She got nothing out of him except a lecture about her grades, which, judging by her face, stung far worse than the dead end.

Tiffany stormed out, shoulders slumped with defeat.

I caught Sebastian’s eye and arched a brow. "You’re really not going to tell her?"

"No." He rubbed the bridge of his nose. "I know my sister. If she finds out where he is, she’ll chase him straight across the globe. And right now Fynn wants to be left alone. Trust me on that."

"Fair enough." I wandered over and perched on the edge of his desk. "I was the one who ripped the mask off Willow, after all. I pulled those two apart. And some foolish, romantic part of me hoped that once Fynn was free of the wrong woman, he might finally notice the right one who’s been standing behind him all along."

Sebastian reached out and caught my hand, lacing our fingers. "Feelings are complicated, Emilia. One of them is my Beta. The other is my baby sister. I want them both happy. But if they can’t be happy together, I’m not going to force it."

I nodded and let out a breath. "Yeah. You’re right." I slid off the desk. "Come on. Feed me before I gnaw through this contract."

We headed out together, and as we walked, curiosity got the better of me.

"So where did Fynn run off to that keeps him gone a whole month?"
