Chosen as the Cursed Alpha's Seventh Bride
Chapter 335 Clomiphene
Chapter 335: Chapter 335 Clomiphene
Abigail’s POV
The moment I pushed open the door to Claudine’s office, I froze.
Papers covered the floor. A shattered vase lay beside the desk. My godmother stood in the middle of the mess, still angry enough to break something else.
"Claudine? What on earth happened here?"
"It’s all because of that ungrateful son of mine." She drew in a sharp breath.
I crossed the room, stepped behind her.
"I can’t imagine who would be foolish enough to upset you like this. Scott, of course. Why waste your temper on your own son? Don’t do this to yourself. You’ll make yourself ill."
"He married that woman I can’t stand. Then he threatened to cut ties with me, right in front of her."
I gave a soft laugh and worked my thumbs into her shoulders.
"Only you would take that seriously. He’s bluffing, Claudine. Do you really think he would break a blood bond over some girl?"
She sighed, and her shoulders dropped beneath my hands.
"I left him when he was eight. I ran off to France. He’s never forgiven me."
"He was a child, yes. But he’s still your son. You carried him for nine months. Nothing can change that. You’re his mother by blood, and blood doesn’t simply disappear."
She reached back, caught my hand, and held it.
"Thank you, Abigail. I swear, I would rather have given him to you than to that woman. At least then I could sleep at night."
I bit my lip.
"You know how I feel about Sebastian, Claudine."
She nodded.
"Of course I do. Otherwise, I would have made you my daughter-in-law years ago."
And that was exactly why I had come.
I took a slow breath.
"Claudine, that’s why I’m here. I know you wanted to break Emilia and Sebastian apart so Emilia could marry Scott. But Scott has chosen someone else now. Your plan is over."
I met her eyes.
"So I want to ask you something. Will you help me get my mate back?"
Her mouth curved into a warm, secretive smile.
"Of course. Scott is my son, and you are my goddaughter. I’ll treat you both the same."
Warmth spread through my chest.
"How will you help me?"
"Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to someone. Work with him, and you may both get exactly what you want."
"Who?"
"Richie Lind."
I should never have let my guard down.
Damien found me the very next day, sitting across from Richie Lind in a café while we planned how to bring Emilia down. He didn’t make a scene in front of Richie. He waited until we were alone, then tore into me.
He accused me of scheming, of hurting myself, and of chasing a man who had already rejected me. We argued until neither of us had anything left to say. Then he walked out.
For several days, Damien didn’t call or come by.
Today, he appeared at my door. I grabbed his hand and pulled him inside.
"Damien, where have you been? I haven’t seen you in days."
"Now that Sebastian has your full attention, what difference does it make whether you see me or not?"
He pulled his hand free.
I stared at him. "What’s wrong with you?"
"Funny. I was about to ask you the same thing."
His words left me confused.
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
"It means you’re turning into someone I don’t recognize." His jaw tightened. "Why can’t you just let him go? Wish your ex well and walk away instead of forcing your way back into his life?"
My expression hardened. "That’s not your concern."
"If you were nothing to me, you’d be right. But you’re not nothing. And that’s the problem, isn’t it?"
His voice shook slightly.
"I could tear out my own heart and lay it at your feet, and you would step over it to get to him."
"Damien..."
"Do you even love me?" The bitterness in his voice couldn’t hide the hurt underneath.
"Or am I only the person you turn to when you’re sad, trapped, or out of options?"
I said nothing.
"Abigail, stop this. Stop giving me new reasons to lose faith in you. Come away with me. Please."
"I’m sorry, Damien. I won’t leave with you again, even if it breaks your heart. Running away with you all those years ago was the biggest mistake of my life. I won’t repeat it. I would rather die here than do it again."
"You’re not repeating it. Leaving now would be the smartest thing you’ve ever done. Staying is the mistake. What do I have to say before you understand that?"
"I know exactly what I want," I shot back. "You don’t need to save me. If you can’t support me, stay out of my way."
My stubbornness hurt him. I saw it happen.
He stood to leave, but then his eyes fell on the table.
The pill box.
He picked it up before I could stop him. The color drained from his face.
"What is this?" His hand shook as he held it out to me.
"It’s nothing." I lunged for it. "Just a cold. I’ve been trying to get rid of it."
"Abigail!" He held the box out of my reach. "Do you think I’m an idiot? You don’t treat a cold with Clomiphene. These are fertility pills. What in the Goddess’s name are you planning?"
"I told you to stay out of it. You’re not my mate. I don’t owe you an explanation."
Because he could never know the truth.
Titus had already contacted a surrogacy clinic in secret, hoping to secure an heir for the Simons family. What he didn’t know was that I had reached the clinic first. I had people working there.
The moment Sebastian’s sample arrived, it would be passed to me instead.
Once I carried Sebastian’s child, Emilia would be finished. No Luna in this pack could hold her place without giving her Alpha a pup. I would take her place before she even realized what was happening.
Damien’s shoulders dropped. He nodded slowly.
"Fine. From this day forward, I’ll stop caring what happens to you. But I’ve known you for years, so I’ll tell you this one last time. Think before you act."
He placed the pill box back on the table.
"Keep going down this road, and you’ll lose everything. Your pride. Your family. Your friends. Everything you have now, including me."
He walked out without looking back.
The door clicked shut.
I stood there for a long moment.
