Chapter 776: Getting Angry
Chapter 776: Chapter 776: Getting Angry
"Did he mention which hospital he’s from?" Shi Haoping couldn’t help but ask.
"He did. He said he’s from the City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, named Li Xu," the ambulance doctor replied.
"City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine? Li Xu?" Shi Haoping muttered the name to himself a couple of times.
The medical circle in Feng City wasn’t large. He had vaguely heard that the City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine had been making waves lately, producing a formidable young doctor of traditional Chinese medicine. He had always assumed it was just exaggerated media hype. Now, it seemed the man truly lived up to his reputation.
"To think that a place like the Feng City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine could hide such a highly skilled young surgical prodigy," Shi Haoping praised sincerely.
He quickly refocused his attention. "Alright, we can talk about this later. Hand me the drainage tube and prepare for the puncture. The patient’s life comes first."
Meanwhile, Li Xu, Song Sisi, and Li Lin arrived smoothly at the City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Today, Li Xu didn’t go to the specialist clinic; instead, he headed straight for the emergency department. This was what he had agreed upon with Zeng Yunjun the day before. Just as they stepped into the emergency hall, they bumped into Chief Resident Gao Jingyun, who was rushing by.
"Morning, President Gao," Li Xu greeted him with a smile.
"Dean Li, you’re here." Seeing Li Xu, Gao Jingyun smiled. "Director Zeng went to a meeting in the hospital. He asked me to wait for you here."
At that moment, an emergency room nurse ran over panting, her face looking rather pale.
"President Gao, this is bad! Director Ren from the Osteotrauma Department is furious."
Gao Jingyun’s expression changed, his heart skipping a beat.
Ren Hongbo was the deputy director of the Osteotrauma Department and usually had quite a temper. Who on earth had provoked that big shot this early in the morning?
"What happened? Take your time and explain," Gao Jingyun asked hurriedly.
"It’s the patient admitted yesterday afternoon, bed 35, the one with diabetic foot ulcers." The nurse lowered her voice and spoke quickly. "Director Ren went to do his ward rounds this morning, only to find the patient missing from his bed. When he asked the family, they said they had pushed him down to the small garden to bask in the sun again. Director Ren instantly blew up and is cursing at people in the hallway right now."
Hearing this, Gao Jingyun subconsciously turned to glance at Li Xu beside him.
He remembered clearly that yesterday afternoon, it was Vice Dean Li himself who had given the medical order for that critically ill diabetic foot patient to spend more time outside in the sun. Great, this was a clash of Immortals. As a lowly chief resident caught in the middle, he was bound to offend someone no matter what he did.
"Let’s go, we need to check the observation room immediately." Not daring to delay, Gao Jingyun hurried toward the Osteotrauma Department’s observation room. Li Xu and the other two followed closely behind.
Inside the observation room, the atmosphere had dropped to a freezing point.
The diabetic foot patient had already been hurriedly pushed back by his family and was now lying on the hospital bed, looking rather apprehensive. Ren Hongbo, sporting a dark expression and wearing sterile gloves, was somewhat roughly untying the gauze on the patient’s foot to inspect the wound.
Only a day had passed. Even though they had switched to an expensive, specialized medical dressing, it was impossible for such severe ulcers to show immediate improvement. The patient’s wound hadn’t changed much and still emitted a foul odor.
Although Ren Hongbo was furious, he couldn’t directly vent his anger on a critically ill patient who might face amputation at any moment. He could only instruct with a cold face:
"How many times have I told you? This foot is currently in a state of severe infection and can’t handle being tossed around. Pay attention from now on. You can occasionally use the wheelchair to take a spin in the hallway for some fresh air, but watch the time. It’s windy and dusty outside. If it gets infected with other bacteria, not even an Immortal will be able to save this leg.
"This hospital is a place for medical treatment, not for you to stroll around like you’re vacationing in a park. If you aren’t in your ward during rounds and something happens, who is going to take responsibility?"
Having finished his reprimand, Ren Hongbo turned his head and saw Gao Jingyun standing at the door, along with Li Xu and the other two who had followed him in.
He froze for a moment, naturally recognizing Li Xu at a single glance. After all, this was the hospital’s newly appointed star Vice Dean, who had just displayed tremendous prowess in the emergency department yesterday, shattering all the hospital’s emergency rescue records.
"Dean Li, what brings you here?" Although Ren Hongbo was angry, he still had to maintain superficial politeness, asking in a lukewarm tone.
"Director Zeng went to a meeting. He asked me to come over to the Osteotrauma Department to take a look and provide some guidance," Li Xu said in a flat tone.
After the brief greeting, the nameless anger in Ren Hongbo’s heart could no longer be suppressed. He didn’t dare directly confront a Vice Dean like Li Xu, so he turned his spearhead toward Gao Jingyun, reprimanding him sternly:
"Xiaogao, how are you handling things? What kind of chief resident are you?
"There’s a limit to certain things. You can’t just blindly indulge the patient’s family in their nonsense. What is the patient thinking? He finds the ward stuffy and wants to go out and play. As a doctor, if you don’t strictly restrain them, they usually won’t cooperate well with the treatment. Yet now, you’re actually turning a blind eye and even encouraging them to run around freely?
"These patients don’t understand basic medical knowledge. Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile. If every patient acts like him and can’t be found during rounds, how are the hospital’s rules and regulations supposed to be enforced? Who is going to guarantee medical safety?"
After all, the patient had been missing during yesterday’s ward rounds, and he was missing again during today’s rounds. As a dignified deputy director of surgery, Ren Hongbo had been shut out twice in a row. He felt his authority was being severely provoked, so it was perfectly normal for him to be a little furious.
"Director Ren, I’m sorry, I didn’t do my job well enough. I will definitely strengthen ward management from now on." Gao Jingyun kept his head down, having no choice but to take the blame for Li Xu as he hurriedly admitted fault.
"Director Ren, Dr. Gao is not to blame for this." Right at that moment, Li Xu stepped up to proactively explain:
"The patient going out to bask in the sun was a medical order I issued during my rounds yesterday. Furthermore, for a patient with a diabetic foot combined with severe Yang deficiency and cold coagulation, basking in the sun and utilizing the natural fire of Pure Yang is extremely beneficial for wound healing and restoring vital energy.
"However, we might have forgotten to inform the patient of the specific time for ward rounds yesterday, which led to today’s misunderstanding. In the future, during rounds, I will have the patient wait in the ward and pay attention to the time to cooperate with your work."
Although Li Xu’s words seemed like an explanation and a concession on the surface, they inherently revealed a tough insistence on his own medical philosophy.
"This..." Hearing this, instead of taking the graceful out, Ren Hongbo’s expression grew even uglier, making him appear quite displeased.
"Dean Li, are you saying that I should ask the patient for permission in advance before I do my rounds, and fix a specific time just to accommodate their sunbathing schedule?"
Ren Hongbo’s tone carried a hint of mockery and hostility. In a public hospital, as a deputy chief physician and a core member of the staff, he possessed a tremendous amount of autonomy. He didn’t need to strictly follow a rigid schedule for ward rounds every day like the resident doctors did.
It was only because this patient’s condition was incredibly severe, posing a risk of amputation, that Ren Hongbo had made an exception to personally check on him every day for the past couple of days.
