Chapter 763: Chapter 763: All-Rounder

"I just went to the observation room to check on the other patients with fractures and poisoning. Their conditions are all stable." Stepping out of the treatment room, Zeng Yunjun sighed from the bottom of his heart. "Dean Li, it’s really thanks to you holding the fort tonight. In less than an hour, we had six or seven critically ill patients. If you weren’t here to turn the tide, the few young doctors on duty really wouldn’t have been able to handle it. It could have easily resulted in a medical malpractice incident."

As he spoke, Zeng Yunjun looked at Li Xu. His eyes no longer held their initial scrutiny; instead, they were filled with genuine admiration.

It was worth noting that with so many critically ill patients suddenly flooding in tonight, the emergency department would normally have been in a panic long ago. They would have immediately called other departments like orthopedics, gastroenterology, and general surgery, requesting the hospital’s second-line doctors on duty for emergency consultations and backup.

Yet tonight, the on-duty doctors hadn’t called a single department for help.

All because Li Xu was here.

He alone had handled orthopedics, internal medicine, and emergency medicine, somehow defusing every single crisis by himself. His output easily equaled that of several specialist chief physicians combined.

His strength was simply unfathomable.

"It’s not just my credit alone. Colleagues from other departments and the emergency nurses have been helping as well," Li Xu said modestly, looking at the busy emergency hall.

He was telling the truth. No matter how miraculous traditional Chinese medicine was, emergency resuscitation still required nurses to establish intravenous access, maintain vital signs, brew herbs, and provide a whole series of coordinated support.

"Ah, I know the skill level of the others. If you weren’t here as their anchor, they would’ve been in chaos long ago." Zeng Yunjun liked Li Xu more and more the longer he looked at him.

It would be wonderful if such a capable, responsible, and composed young doctor could join his emergency department. Places like this loved doctors with strong abilities and quick reflexes. This was especially true for an all-rounder like Li Xu, who understood internal medicine syndrome differentiation, bone setting in orthopedics, and could even use acupuncture for emergency anesthesia.

At critical moments, one person like him was absolutely worth ten.

Even if Zeng Yunjun himself had been present for tonight’s sudden small-scale mass casualty event, strictly following the Western medicine procedures of examinations, gastric lavage, and anti-inflammatories, he absolutely couldn’t have handled it as effortlessly and with such instant results as Li Xu had.

"Dean Li, if I may be so bold to ask... are you still running that private clinic of yours?" Zeng Yunjun probed tentatively.

His intention was obvious. He wanted to persuade Li Xu to close that small clinic and dedicate all his energy and time to the City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. That way, as a vice dean, Li Xu might have more time to visit the emergency department to "guide their work."

Li Xu smiled faintly, instantly understanding Zeng Yunjun’s meaning.

He shook his head, his tone firm. "The clinic is still open. Naturally, I won’t close it.

"That is where I first started practicing medicine, and it is also the lifeblood my father left behind. It holds irreplaceable significance to me.

"In the future, even if I become too busy with hospital affairs to regularly sit in the clinic, I will let Sisi continue running it. Even if it’s just treating colds or doing some massage, I have to keep that signboard up."

Standing to the side, Lin Guorui couldn’t help but reveal a knowing smile when he heard Li Xu mention Sisi.

He naturally knew about the deep affection between Li Xu and Song Sisi. The two had supported each other through the clinic’s most difficult times, sticking together through thick and thin to this day. In Lin Guorui’s eyes, the brilliant young man and the beautiful young woman were a perfect match. Not only were they great partners in their careers, but they were also a match made in heaven.

Recently, Lin Guorui had heard some gossip among the young doctors in private.

For instance, rumors were spreading that Wang Xue—the intern with a profound background as the granddaughter of a National Medical Master—seemed to be secretly harboring feelings for the young and promising vice dean, and was even acting quite proactively. Many gossiped in private, guessing whether Li Xu would abandon the woman who had been with him through his hardest times just to save twenty years of struggle and climb the towering tree that was the Wang family.

However, Lin Guorui knew Li Xu’s character. He firmly believed that Li Xu would never separate from Song Sisi.

In this regard, men were sometimes more realistic than women, but also more clear-headed.

If the person who stole a man’s goddess was a street punk who was inferior in every way and only knew how to sweet-talk, the man would feel extremely uncomfortable, harboring strong resentment and indignation. He would wonder why such a loser was chosen over him. But if the person who stole his goddess was clearly a hundred times better than him, existing at unattainable heights, the man could instead console himself a bit: he truly couldn’t compare, and he had lost fair and square.

Therefore, in real life, the laws of romance were often quite cruel.

When a successful man went back to his ex, it was often because he found out that his idealized first love was living a miserable life, driven by his protective instincts or a condescending sense of superiority. If his ex was living a better, more glamorous life than him, he would often choose to stay far away to avoid feeling inferior.

On the other hand, when a woman looked back, it was often because she discovered that the poor boy she had missed out on back then had now become exceptionally outstanding, perhaps even a big shot. If the man was still down-and-out and miserable, she would often not hesitate to stay away again.

In other aspects, there really were no absolute standards for choosing a mate, and it was hard to compare. Frankly speaking, in the end, many people simply and realistically looked at money and background.

But Li Xu was different.

He himself was a wealthy powerhouse; he was his own greatest asset. He didn’t need to suck up to the Wang family at all. What he needed was pure companionship from someone who could share both joys and sorrows—and Song Sisi had proven she was that person long ago.

Seeing Li Xu’s resolute attitude, Zeng Yunjun couldn’t very well persuade him further. He could only settle for the next best thing and laughed, "Dean Li, you can’t play favorites. You can’t just focus on the reforms in the oncology department. When you have time, you should also come manage our emergency department, right?"

Zeng Yunjun genuinely hoped Li Xu could spend more time in their department.

Such a good seedling... No!

The skill level Li Xu was displaying now could no longer be described as a "seedling."

Although he was still very young and couldn’t be called a highly respected towering tree yet, he had already grown quite lushly and was completely capable of taking charge of a department on his own. Such an outstanding, freakish talent could truly elevate a department’s professional level and reputation all by himself. If given a few more years to grow and absorb more experience, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he could single-handedly drive the comprehensive revival of an entire Grade 3A hospital.

"Mm, as long as I have the time, I’ll come over often to take a look," Li Xu thought for a moment and said earnestly.
