Chinese Medicine: Starting with Daily Intelligence
Chapter 761: Lively
Chapter 761: Chapter 761: Lively
"Dean Li actually knows about orthopedics and traumatology? That’s wonderful, we couldn’t ask for more."
Dr. Liu’s eyes immediately lit up upon hearing this. Even someone as strict as Director Zeng highly praised this young deputy dean. As a mere senior attending physician, Dr. Liu naturally needed to show his respect. Besides, having another top expert help would provide an extra layer of guarantee for the success rate and safety of the resuscitation.
As the blood-covered patient was swiftly lifted onto the emergency stretcher and pushed into the resuscitation room, Li Xu and Lin Guorui put on gloves and stepped forward to help without hesitation. While the nurses cut away the patient’s pant leg, which was caked in mud and blood, Li Xu’s hands were already resting lightly on the severely deformed right calf.
"How is it? Did you find anything?" Lin Guorui asked Li Xu nervously from the side.
"A comminuted fracture in the middle and lower section of the right fibula, accompanied by severe muscle and soft tissue contusions." Li Xu’s hands moved across the swollen skin. His touches appeared gentle but followed a highly systematic method. It was as if his hands possessed X-ray vision, capable of directly perceiving the conditions beneath the skin. As he examined the leg, he spoke rapidly. "Fortunately, the main trunk of the tibia is still relatively intact. There’s no obvious arterial or venous rupture and bleeding... The fracture zone is roughly..."
"Quickly, push him over for a 3D CT three-phase reconstruction of the right lower limb and a vascular color Doppler ultrasound to rule out occult bleeding," Dr. Liu immediately ordered, having gained some confidence after hearing Li Xu’s preliminary judgment.
Since they were in the emergency department’s territory, following Western medical resuscitation protocols, imaging tests were the indispensable gold standard. Li Xu naturally understood the rules and cooperatively stepped back half a pace to let the stretcher pass.
Soon, the emergency department’s green channel was fully opened, and the patient was swiftly wheeled away for a comprehensive CT scan. In less than ten minutes, the results were transmitted via the internal network straight to the computer screen in the resuscitation room.
Dr. Liu clicked open the scans and observed them carefully. As he looked, he subconsciously turned his head, shooting a glance of sheer disbelief at Li Xu standing nearby. Judging from the high-definition 3D CT reconstruction, the patient’s fracture, vascular condition, and even the extent of the soft tissue damage were exactly identical to the results Li Xu had just "felt" with his bare hands.
He knew it couldn’t possibly be a coincidence. A storm of astonishment raged in Dr. Liu’s heart.
It was one thing for Dean Li to be so young and yet proficient in internal medicine and acupuncture. But for his level of Hand-Touching Heart Understanding in Bone Setting to be this high? He merely touched around through a thick layer of swollen muscle, and yet he was so accurate? Even the specific location of the break and the general distribution of bone fragments barely differed from the data captured by the CT machine. To be precise, it was exactly the same. It was as if his hands came with a built-in X-ray function.
WEE WOO... WEE WOO...
In the dead of night, the sirens of the ambulances wailed, one wave higher than the last. The doors of the City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s emergency department were pushed open time and time again. The originally relatively quiet emergency hall had become as busy and deafening as a bustling wet market.
When Zeng Yunjun received the call and rushed to the department in a panic, he could hardly believe his eyes at the chaotic scene unfolding before him. He wondered how the department had suddenly become this busy in the middle of the night. It looked as if they had been hit by a biochemical attack.
Feng City had many good hospitals; the City People’s Hospital and the Medical Affiliated Hospital handled the bulk of emergency rescues. Although the City Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine was a comprehensive Grade 3A hospital, it primarily featured traditional Chinese medicine. Thus, the scale and hardware of its emergency department were not particularly large. Let alone the past month or two, even in the past half-year, Zeng Yunjun had never seen the emergency department this lively. Even the corridors were packed with stretchers.
"Director Zeng, you’re finally here." The attending physician on duty, Wang Kai, ran over drenched in sweat. He greeted Zeng Yunjun, clutching a stack of unwritten medical records in his hand.
"What exactly is the situation here? Why were so many people suddenly brought in?" Zeng Yunjun asked with a frown as he strode quickly toward the nurses’ station to change into his white coat.
"Sigh, don’t even mention it. It’s like we’re cursed tonight. Everything happened all at once." Wang Kai caught his breath and explained the situation to Zeng Yunjun at breakneck speed, his tone filled with unconcealed shock.
"The first one brought in by the 120 ambulance was a patient with a fractured leg. He’s a delivery driver who ran a red light on his electric scooter and collided with a private car. He suffered a tibiofibular fracture in his left leg and was howling in pain.
"Normally, we can’t handle major fractures like that here. We were just about to contact the orthopedics department or transfer him to another hospital. But it just so happened that Dean Li was around, and he stepped right in and performed Bone Setting to reduce the fracture.
"But that wasn’t the end of it. Right after that, there was a mass food poisoning incident at the nearby Honghuohuo night market food stalls. The ambulance brought in four or five people, all of them vomiting, experiencing diarrhea, and looking pale and greenish.
"Dean Li stepped up to handle it alone. Not only was his pulse-taking and diagnosis absurdly fast, but he actually prescribed four completely different traditional Chinese medicine formulas for those food poisoning patients."
Zeng Yunjun had only rushed over after receiving the call about the traumatology patient. Later, as the number of food poisoning patients grew, the on-duty doctors in the department felt too short-handed to cope and called several more times to urge him to hurry. But from the time Zeng Yunjun left for the department, less than half an hour had passed in total.
Within this short half-hour, five or six critical patients had actually been methodically sorted out by Li Xu all by himself? All the doctors and nurses in the emergency department who had been watching from the sidelines were now completely dumbfounded.
Was this guy even human? With this efficiency and speed, he was practically a humanoid medical machine.
Especially when Li Xu handled the bone injury patient, many doctors found it hard to believe. Based on the CT scan taken right after the patient arrived, the jagged edges of the bone were severely dislocated, and the soft tissues were incredibly swollen. It would have been extremely difficult to reduce the fracture through conservative treatment. Yet, in Li Xu’s hands, they watched him grope the bloody and mangled calf a few times. He suddenly pulled one end, and with a CRACK, just like a child playing with a puzzle, the bones miraculously realigned.
Initially, when these Western medicine doctors in the emergency department discussed things privately, they frequently gossiped about this parachuted young deputy dean. They felt that Li Xu only knew how to prescribe a few conditioning Chinese medicine formulas and had simply hyped himself up by curing a few chronic diseases.
But now...
When Wang Kai reported the situation to Zeng Yunjun, he kept saying "Dean Li" in every sentence, subconsciously carrying a heartfelt respect. In a hardcore technical circle like a hospital, administrative ranks and background connections were all hollow. Only a doctor with genuine skill who could truly save lives and cure illnesses would earn everyone’s true respect and make these proud peers genuinely concede.
After all, no matter where you go, the majority are always ordinary people without connections or backgrounds.
