Chapter 1936: Voidwalkers
Chapter 1936: Voidwalkers
……
“Voidwalker Tribe?”
Shin and the others, who were resting in the preparation room, could not help but raise their brows after hearing the unfamiliar term.
Shin felt it a bit familiar, but he was not sure where or when he had heard about it. He felt that he knew this term, but he could not grasp it properly, no matter how hard he tried.
While Shin was trying to dig into his memory, Arthur took the most straightforward way and asked. “Senior Benedict, can you tell us more about these Voidwalkers or something?”
Benedict could not help but pause when he heard the question and felt a bit uncomfortable. He hesitated for quite a while before sighing. “It is a bit complicated, but I will be trying my best to oversimplify it for you.”
He organized his thoughts a little, finding where to start, before continuing. “Before we talk about the Voidwalkers, you first have to know where they come from.”
“A long time ago, almost a couple of centuries ago, there was a certain individual who was exploring an ancient ruin in the depths of the unknown lands.”
He paused for a moment before asking. “Do you guys know about the unknown lands?”
“They are the unexplored lands that we, humanity, have yet to fully discover. Most of them consist of special materials, ores, herbs, and other heavenly treasures,” answered Molton almost instantly.
As someone who liked to read about history, such knowledge was pretty much ’common’ for him.
After a brief pause, Molton added. “These unknown lands are the reason for the battle for supremacy. To avoid large-scale wars at that time, older generations devised a solution. Whoever wins this competition will get the rights to explore a newly discovered, unknown land.”
Hearing those words, Benedict nodded before continuing. “That is just one of the reasons why the world has decided this. The other reason lies with this explorer that I have just mentioned.”
“During his exploration, he thought that he had found an ancient relic. But little did he know, this relic is cursed, which also caused a huge disaster around the world.”
“The ’treasure box’ that he had found did not contain any treasure at all. Instead, a ’curse’ spread throughout the world once it opened.”
Repeatedly hearing the ’curse’ from him, Jilian could not help but ask. “Senior. What kind of curse is it?”
Benedict thought for a moment before adding. “Curse is just the general term for it. Or we commonly call them, the remnants of the past.”
Seeing their confusion, Benedict added. “They came in multiple forms. They can be an evil spirit, a lingering thought of a powerful being, an overwhelming resentment or hatred, an unyielding will that refuses to die, a lost soul of the past, or something of the sort.”
“All these negative things collectively form a ’curse’.”
“Based on our current understanding of them, we can consider them as the Cursed Spirits of the past generations.”
Seeing that the group had basically grasped what he was trying to say, Benedict continued. “That ’treasure box’ is supposed to be sealing the most powerful and most evil ’Remnants of the Past’, which are suddenly released after an unknown amount of time.”
“Moreover, this said explorer was suddenly possessed by these ’Remnants’, forcefully seizing his body.”
“What was worse at that time, this explorer is not weak at all. He is someone who has achieved the peak of the Domain Realm and is a step away from reaching the Transcendent Realm.”
“No one knew about this incident at first, which set this evil being free.”
“But what is scariest about ’them’ is ’their’ cunning mind. ’They’ did not immediately cause any trouble right after being set free. Instead, ’they’ sought for their kind and started freeing them one after another.”
“It was already too late when the powerful experts during that time had realized the problem.”
He then paused for another moment, letting everyone digest his words first before continuing. “A war between these ’Remnants’ and those seniors immediately broke out, which swiftly swept through the world.”
“Fortunately, identifying those ’Remnants’ was quite easy due to the distinct aura that they possessed.”
“This war lasted for at least a century before those ’Remnants’ started lying low, especially when they were always being hunted by everyone.”
“The top experts of the world of that time realized the problem about these unknown lands, which led them to establish the ’Battle for Supremacy’.”
“It is not just a battle for resources, but it is also to make it easier for them to identify the problem if similar accidents happen.”
Hearing this, Leonard could not help but ask. “But how about the independent experts, just like that individual explorer who caused the first disaster?”
Benedict smiled while answering. “If it is before, then it is indeed hard to monitor everyone. After all, the world is vast.”
“But with the advancement of technology, it has become much easier to deal with such problems.”
“Moreover, most of the unknown lands have already been explored, leaving only a very few that are beyond the vast oceans.”
“At the same time, those powerhouses from the older generations have stationed themselves at these entry points, preventing anyone from bypassing them.”
Then, it was Lorraine’s turn to ask. “Then what if these people become crazy and greedy, wanting those resources for themselves?”
“These station points are not only meant for a single power. Every force in the world has an expert stationed there, keeping a check on each other,” answered Benedict.
He then paused for a moment, ensuring that none of these kids had any more questions, before continuing. “These remnants are quite tricky to deal with throughout the progress of time. They have learned how to hide their unique auras and integrate themselves into our society.”
“However, their uniqueness is still something that they can hide, making it easier to identify them.”
“After long years of being hunted, they have finally found a chance to counterattack. They have found a place where the largest number of their fellow remnants are sealed and attempted to free all of them, which led to another war.”
Benedict thought for a moment before adding. “This incident could be considered as more ’recent’ for us, it happened not too far from our current generation.”
Looking at everyone, he continued. “Do you know why the Dark Continent is the home of the underworld organizations despite it being the largest among all the continents?”
“It is because it is the main battlefield of that war. Chaos enveloped that place, making it hard to live there.”
“Moreover, the air and atmosphere there consist of the lingering resentment and bloodlust of that war, which made it harder for ordinary people to live there.”
Hearing this, the rest could only try to imagine how intense that war was to leave such an effect that even penetrated the land itself.
Shin, on the other hand, pursed his lips a little when hearing this. He could at least still remember that the Fog Village, where he lived when he was a toddler, was there.
The expression on Benedict’s face suddenly turned solemn when he reached this point before continuing. “This war was much more intense and longer compared to the previous one, especially when these remnants could possess even the fallen comrades of our older generation unless they were completely wiped out of existence.”
“Another factor that made it harder for our side to win at that time was the division between the top forces. Each of them represented a different force, while others were just independent powerhouses that joined the battle due to different reasons.”
“This was only resolved when the World Government established that such a problem had been resolved.”
He could not help but pause when he reached this point before continuing. “But that was also when another problem arose.”
“On our side, there were some families, tribes, and other forces that had been bewitched by those evil remnants and betrayed us and joined forces with them.”
“They had sold their souls in exchange for power!”
“They took the initiative to possess or even abducted certain people to become the vessels for those evil remnants, making it harder for our side to win.”
“Because of their betrayal, the more powerful evil remnants were released, making their forces even more powerful.”
“But this was just one of the sins that they have committed. Those crazy people had even come up with some crazy ideas.”
“They had impregnated some women with their seeds before making those unborn children a new vessel for them, creating a perfectly tailored body just for them.”
Hearing these, Shin and the others could not help but wear a solemn expression on their faces, especially after learning about those unborn children.
This was too evil – beyond too evil!
“These monsters then become the ’Voidwalkers’ that we know today. They possessed bizarre abilities along with powerful physiques.”
“Each Voidwalker Tribe represented a special power that they possessed. And each of them was more powerful than the other, becoming a great threat to us.”
