Chapter 299: Chapter 198: Lu Fan: Silu, I’m Giving You a Design Company to Manage
The door opened, and Mr. Xu walked in.
He saw Xu Junjie and froze for a moment, his expression instantly turning cold.
"What are you doing back here?"
Xu Junjie, his face just as cold, replied, "I came back to see my mom. Is there a problem with that?"
Mr. Xu snorted. "See your mom? You’re back for money, aren’t you?"
Xu Junjie’s face flushed, but he stubbornly said, "No, I’m not."
Mr. Xu stared at him, his gaze sharp. "No? Then what’s that in your pocket?"
Xu Junjie instinctively covered his pocket, his expression growing even uglier.
The two of them stood there in a standoff, neither willing to back down.
The air seemed to freeze.
Mrs. Xu quickly tried to smooth things over. "Alright, alright, you two start fighting the moment you see each other. Honey, have you eaten yet?"
Mr. Xu ignored her, his eyes still fixed on Xu Junjie. "How many times have I told you to give up on that ridiculous startup of yours? You think running a business is that easy? You’re just a college student. You don’t know anything. What makes you think you can accomplish anything?"
Xu Junjie’s temper flared. He yelled at his father, "I don’t know anything? Do you? Besides wasting your life away at the courthouse, what do you know?"
Mr. Xu’s face turned ashen, and he raised his hand to strike him.
"Honey! What are you doing!" Mrs. Xu cried, rushing to stop him.
Xu Junjie shot his father a fierce glare, then turned and stormed out.
Mrs. Xu called after him, "Jun Jie! Jun Jie!"
Without looking back, Xu Junjie slammed the door with a BANG.
The room fell silent.
Mr. Xu stood frozen in place, his face terrifyingly grim.
He was breathing heavily, his chest heaving.
Mrs. Xu looked at him and said cautiously, "Old Xu, why are you so angry with our son..."
Mr. Xu suddenly spoke. "Why did he really come back?"
Mrs. Xu looked awkward. "It’s nothing. He was just homesick and came back for a visit."
"Really?" Mr. Xu stared at her, his gaze sharpening.
Mrs. Xu’s heart faltered, but she forced herself to say, "Really."
Mr. Xu was silent for a moment before he suddenly said, "I have court hearings in the next couple of days."
"What case?"
"Two cases. The victim in both is the same university student."
"Which university student?" Mrs. Xu asked, a little surprised.
Mr. Xu looked at her and said, word by word, "Jiang Sifan. The one Jun Jie had a conflict with last time."
The color drained from Mrs. Xu’s face.
Mr. Xu said helplessly, "Do you have any idea who that Jiang Sifan’s father is?"
"Who?" Mrs. Xu shook her head, her voice laced with panic.
Mr. Xu said in a low voice, "I don’t know who exactly he is, but he’s definitely not someone to be trifled with. From what I know, that Lin Qiang comes from a wealthy family—they even tried to pull some strings at the courthouse. Do you think someone who could force a rich kid like Lin Qiang to drop out of school, and make his parents beg on their knees, is a simple person?"
Mrs. Xu was stunned.
Mr. Xu looked at her, his tone severe. "You keep a close eye on Jun Jie. Don’t let him provoke that Jiang Sifan again. Otherwise, he won’t even know what hit him."
Mrs. Xu’s mind was in turmoil, and she could only nod mechanically.
Mr. Xu sighed and turned to enter the bedroom.
Mrs. Xu stood rooted to the spot for a long, long time.
...
After accompanying Jiang Yixia back to the flower shop, Lu Fan didn’t linger.
After a bit of small talk, he headed back to Jinling.
He hadn’t seen his precious daughter in days.
He kind of missed her.
He arrived at Jinling University just as classes were letting out for lunch.
Lu Fan parked his car at the foot of the dormitory building and sent Jiang Silu a message: [Silu, I’m downstairs.]
A few minutes later, Jiang Silu’s figure appeared at the building entrance.
She was wearing a light blue sweatshirt with her hair in a ponytail. When she saw Lu Fan’s car, she hurried over.
Lu Fan got out of the car, watching her with a wide smile.
Jiang Silu walked up to him and asked, a little shyly, "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you, of course. And to ask our gold medal winner what kind of gift she wants," Lu Fan said cheerfully.
"There’s no need, I don’t want a gift." Jiang Silu paused, then shook her head, blushing.
Lu Fan replied, "How could I not? You won a gold medal. Dad has to do something to celebrate."
Jiang Silu looked down and mumbled, "The gold medal isn’t just mine. It was a group effort. The senior students helped a lot too."
Lu Fan looked at her, feeling a sense of gratification. ’She doesn’t try to take all the credit and knows how to be grateful.’
Just as he was about to say something, Jiang Silu’s phone suddenly rang.
She picked it up and glanced at the screen, pausing for a second. "Teacher Meng?"
"Hello, Teacher Meng," she answered the call, her voice a little nervous.
Elder Meng’s voice came from the other end of the line, full of laughter. "Silu, I just got back from abroad and heard about the results of the Landscaping Cup. Congratulations on the gold medal!"
Jiang Silu quickly thanked him. "Thank you, Teacher Meng. It was all thanks to your guidance."
"I didn’t guide you that much. You’re just naturally talented," Elder Meng said with a laugh.
Lu Fan recognized Elder Meng’s voice and chimed in from the side, "Elder Meng, hello. Silu winning this award is all thanks to you looking out for her."
Elder Meng said over the phone, "You’re being too polite. Silu earned this herself. But I must say, as her father, even though you were absent in the past, you’ve been doing a great job lately. Silu told me you helped her find research materials and took her to Spring Glow Garden. She’s taken all of that to heart."
Hearing this, Lu Fan looked over at Jiang Silu and started to laugh.
Jiang Silu turned her face away, her ears turning a little red.
Lu Fan deliberately spoke into the phone, "Elder Meng, don’t praise me. I still haven’t done enough."
"Is Silu still there? Put her on, there’s something I need to talk to her about," Elder Meng said with a chuckle, changing the subject.
Lu Fan handed the phone back to Jiang Silu.
Jiang Silu took it and asked curiously, "Teacher Meng, what is it?"
