Chapter 1589: Blunt
Chapter 1589: Blunt
The distorted space didn’t hinder Lord Blind Sword’s perception at all. He obviously couldn’t sense as far as the tall mountain in the distance, but the warriors who had remained behind with him were well within his range.
Of course, that was natural. Lord Blind Sword had the best perception among the Royal Guards, with senses that more than compensated for his lack of eyes.
Another natural occurrence was the fact that Old Envoy seemed to be in absolute control of his battlefield. His seniority among the Royal Guards wasn’t a case. No matter his opponent’s abilities, his mastery over space granted him an advantage few could overcome.
Kodwa, the serious, unkempt old man, was also holding his own in quite the spectacular battle. His opponent relied on True Chaos that had taken the shape of all-melting, living tongues of flames, but he looked to be light itself, too fast and piercing to lag behind that scorching power.
Meanwhile, the old woman, Airrak, was stuck in a defensive stance against her burly opponent, but that felt by design. That King’s attack somehow always missed and even blew back at him, as if Airrak could manipulate the very flow of energy around her.
Obviously, no one had it better than Lord Blind Sword himself, but that performance from his fellow evolved warriors was pleasant to witness, or sense. His team truly featured companions to be proud of, which created an annoying problem.
Winning quickly and helping the others would be the wisest but disrespectful move. The regulated universe’s survival was indeed at stake, but Lord Blind Sword remained a Thilku, who almost saw interfering with individual fights as a crime.
Lord Blind Sword also had his duty as a Royal Guard to consider. That elite team was following a vague strategy that saw the Emperor and Blue facing the God on their own. Yet, a Royal Guard’s place was beside the Emperor.
’[Clearing the Kings must take priority],’ Lord Blind Sword eventually concluded in his mind, even nodding to himself. ’[This is war, and that idiot will look for other fights anyway once he is done with his].’
Lord Blind Sword truly didn’t want to hear Idiot Muscles’ bragging about taking out more opponents than him. Avoiding that outcome was near the top of his personal priorities. Luckily, the nature of that conflict gave him a good excuse to interfere with other fights.
The Royal Guard didn’t dwell too long in that internal conflict. Actually, Lord Blind Sword barely wasted a single second in those thoughts, but his opponent noticed the odd break.
Lord Blind Sword’s opponent was an uncharacteristically fat King, which seemed to match his unique skill. His True Chaos focused on that superior energy’s annihilating properties, pushing it to a fearsome level that made him capable of transforming any incoming attack into raw fuel.
That ability had also worked initially, only to fail after a few exchanges, leaving the fat King in his current pitiful state. He was on his knees, somehow lacking the power to stand up, with the True Chaos released by his winged figure scattering endlessly.
Still, the King was far from powerless just yet, and that apparent distraction prompted him to resume his offensive.
"[You have already tried that]," Lord Blind Sword said in his native language, emotions mixing with his voice while his head remained turned away.
Those words didn’t interrupt the King. He willed it, and a tide of True Chaos flowed out of his mouth, expanding vertically and horizontally to create an advancing wave.
The glowing, pitch-black wave devoured air and ground, absorbing them and using their energy to increase its power and speed, which, in turn, allowed it to consume even more of the environment.
Yet, right before the growing wave could crash on Lord Blind Sword, its whole fabric froze. Its momentum disappeared, and the flowing smoke at its edges stopped flickering, as if it had forgotten how to do that.
The King also lost any connection with that ability and the energy it had absorbed, leading to its fall. The wave lost its structural integrity, crashing down and expanding into dispersing smoke that mixed with the environment.
And, among that dispersing smoke, Lord Blind Sword became visible again, standing in the same spot as before, his right hand leaving the hilt of the sheathed sword he held with his left.
"[You can’t sharpen my sword]," Lord Blind Sword sighed, turning his face toward the King. "[Let’s end this with the next attack]."
"[There is no sword]," The King pointed out through a strange whisper that defied language barriers.
"[Just because you can’t see it]," Lord Blind Sword announced, stepping toward the kneeling King. "[It doesn’t mean it can’t exist. Your existence realizes as much]."
The King had no argument against that. He hadn’t seen any blade, but his body had been cut anyway. Actually, the damage had been deeper, severing part of his control over his energy and legs.
"[If I had to guess]," Lord Blind Sword continued, still walking toward the King, "[Your existence’s utmost expression is the release of your lifelong accumulation]."
Lord Blind Sword’s guess had been on point, but his following words ended up having a far more irking effect. "[Unleash it]."
The King didn’t take that blatant challenge well. He was a child of a superior energy, bound to the service of a superior being. He wouldn’t let inferior warriors treat him like a trivial hindrance.
Still, the King had to swallow his pride and accept the challenge. He closed his eyes, slamming his hands on his fat belly, which started boiling with power.
The King’s ability had energy-devouring powers, but storing that fuel was its main feature. His strange shape was a consequence of that. He had basically accumulated so much power that his body had to change to contain it.
Unleashing all that in a single blow created more than simple waves. An elliptical cavity opened at the center of the King’s belly, and an all-devouring, all-obliterating, massive beam of pristine blackness shot forward, instantly covering an immense distance.
The King immediately lost weight, but his consciousness came next, barely having the time to notice how his immense beam had frozen before falling prey to eternal darkness.
At the same time, Lord Blind Sword appeared behind the King, completely disregarding the cracks that appeared on his kneeling figure. His covered, empty eye sockets pointed at the handle in his raised right hand, to which no blade was attached.
"[Still too blunt]," Lord Blind Sword muttered to himself, sheathing that seemingly non-existent blade, turning his attention past the dispersing remains of his dead opponent.
