Chapter 551: Chapter 549: Revival (1)

"Are you nervous?" I asked with a small smile as I watched Clarissa try to psyche herself up.

"Humph! Daring to tease me now, are you?" She huffed, pouting.

"Well, it’s just funny seeing your confident act finally have a dent in it. You were acting so tough and carefree earlier."

"Yea, that was until I started facing the reality of snatching authority over life from something I still can’t even comprehend properly," she mused. Pointing at the Lifetree before us, she added, "Look at this thing—it’s already overwhelming, and I’m about to seize authority from something even more daunting than this. Yea, talking big has its perks, especially when it only involves talking." Her smile turned weak. "But the show must go on, and I already promised you, so here goes nothing..."

She turned around, assuming once again her cross-legged sitting position, trying to regulate her breath when—

"Da.. Dante?"

I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her into my embrace as I sat her on my lap, resting my chin on her head.

"Thank you, Clarissa.."

I had nothing else to say. Those words were the only thing I could pull out. She didn’t need to do this, yet she was willing to.

"Fufufu... what’s all this now? Isn’t a wife naturally expected to help her dear husband when he’s in a pinch? Or do you think because we haven’t done that yet that you can escape me? When even that violent woman already has you marked? Never! Just consider this as my betrothal gift, fufufufu..."

"I’m only letting this slide because we need you alive, Clarissa. Once you’re done, we’ll have a nice long chat about how much advantage you’re taking in this situation," Aunt V huffed.

"Oooh... so scary... darling~~ help meeee..."

Trust Clarissa to always lighten the mood as she cooed, fake fear all over her face, pushing her body up against mine all while shooting Aunt V a teasing look.

"Pfft... hahahaha!!"

I couldn’t help but laugh at their interaction, the mood being significantly lifted.

"Haa... alright, enough slacking, time to get to work." Clarissa’s expression hardened as she took a deep breath. "Watch me, darling."

I merely nodded, releasing my hold on her waist as she closed her eyes, a brilliant green light pouring out of her body.

"It’s starting."

My own expression turned serious.

"Make sure nothing living comes within a light-year of this place," I ordered. And then—

"Consider it done, Master."

The others responded, disappearing from their spot as they made a perimeter around the region.

"Fufufufufu... my dearest partner, you seem to be doing something you shouldn’t."

A voice suddenly resounded through the region as multiple stars began blinking around us.

"This... you’re..."

I was stunned; I recognized that voice.

"Fufufufufufu... it seems you haven’t forgotten me. Well then, that’s good. As a reward, allow me to help your friend out with her task."

The voice laughed, seemingly pleased as all around us, the stars shone with blinding brilliance, the very firmament turning heavy and then—

HUUUUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

They burst into brilliant starlight. A flood of multicolored light filled with pure life essence rushed toward the stationary figure of Clarissa, flooding her body with power and vitality.

HONG!!!!

The entire region trembled as Clarissa lit up like a globe, bathing the entire space in resplendent lights of green and spotted stars.

"There. It should hold her long enough to establish the connection and take away the authority of that old crone, fufufufufu..."

"You... why? Why are you doing this?" I asked, not understanding why this voice would suddenly interfere. After so long of not hearing anything, almost forgetting I’d even encountered such a thing, it just appeared now while Clarissa was about to act?

"Fufufufufu... still can’t bring yourself to doubt or hold me in suspicion, can you? Hehehehe... I am glad. Truly glad to have chosen a partner like you."

I remained silent, my mind spinning.

"Bring back your parents. I’ll be rooting for you, and I do hope you come see me soon, My Dearest Breath of the Endless Horizon, fufufufufu... As for now, I’ll go distract that old coot and make my sister’s task a lot easier."

The presence vanished the moment it was done with its words, leaving me to my own thoughts.

"Looks like another one of my sisters is showing themselves, huh?" Shaia teased.

"Not now, Shaia..."

I couldn’t even begin to understand how I was feeling.

"To think the firmament would show herself again now of all times? And what do you think she meant by coming to see her?"

"It’s obvious, is it not? The old coot she was talking about helping Clarissa overthrow must be the Lifetree, so her location shouldn’t be a mystery.."

"The center of the cosmos.... She’s a pillar."

The revelation settled like a stone sitting at the bottom of a well, ripples flowing outward. Yet before I could think about it any further—

HOONGG!!!!

Clarissa’s eyes snapped open, their brilliance washing over the region as they engulfed the entirety of the Lifetree before her. And then—

"I’m in!"

Her voice came layered, like the sound of multiple voices speaking over one another.

"This... this is... wow!!"

I could see her eyes widen in sheer astonishment as disbelief colored her expression.

"Clarissa, what do you see?"

"Everything...."

"Everything?"

"Yes... every life. Every aspiration tied to that life. Every hope and dream tied to that life. And..." she paused.

"And what?"

"A string to cut.... A string attached to every life within this cosmos, one I can cut at any time I wish to."

I went silent at those words.

The <Vital Principality> bloodline was proving to be truly an obscene bloodline.

I didn’t believe the Lifetree—whether the universal offshoots or the cosmic pillar itself—could do this, for if they could, then they wouldn’t have any challenges in this waking reality. So this must be the perk Clarissa gets whenever she assumes her role as the root source of all life.

"Tell me, Clarissa, can you... see me?"

She remained silent for a few moments before turning her head, her pupil-less eyes landing on my figure. And then—

BLERGHHH!!!

She puked out a mouthful of multicolored blood before swiftly shifting her gaze away.

"Are you alright!?" I startled.

"Heh! Darling... you’re still a monster through and through... yes... I can see you, but all I see..."

"All you see is what?"

"Yes."

"Yes?"

"Yes. That’s all I see when I look at you. Because there are no words to describe it."

"I... see."

I could say it was to be expected. After all, my life wasn’t something tied to this particular cosmos or creation as a whole, since I was originally from the Expanse. A being born of Chaos couldn’t possibly be perceived by something birthed by its own hands.

"Haa... alright. Enough distractions."

She had finally gotten in. She had finally taken control of the cosmos’s lifeline and authority. Now, it was time for the truly dire task.

"Clarissa, can you see it? The thread connecting Mom and Dad to this reality?"

Clarissa went quiet as she closed her eyes, her expression focused.

I waited, my breath slowing in anticipation as I hoped to hear the answers I so desperately needed. Luckily, Clarissa didn’t make me wait long, as soon after—

"Yes! I’ve found them!"

I let out a sharp breath, my eyes snapping open.

"Can you..."

"Already on it....."

Her words cut me off mid-sentence as a few moments later, "I’ve got it! I’ve connected with—"

HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

The whole region... no, even beyond that, it felt like all of Prime had begun shaking in fear and terror as a presence suddenly fell upon the entire universe...

"Dante!!!!" Shaia called out in urgency.

"Boy!!! You better act!! Now!!!"

The voice of Nothingness thundered through my head as my body had already begun moving before my thoughts could even catch up.

"Elira!!"

A golden light covered my body as I initiated the fusion between me and Elira.

The truly difficult part of this entire process had finally begun.
