Chapter 860: The Terrifying Jia Chunyang
Chapter 860 -858: The Terrifying Jia Chunyang
“Mr. Xu is truly formidable. You have my utmost respect.”
Wei Ming conceded his defeat wholeheartedly. In truth, anyone who lost to Xu Yang couldn’t help but be thoroughly convinced, no matter how arrogant they usually were. Just look at Xu Yang’s cultivation level—the Late Stage of Celestial Immortal! What more was there to say?
“Thank you for yielding, Senior.”
Xu Yang smiled faintly. Soon after, the two stepped out of the restrictive barrier.
Wei Ming saw the expressions on Zhong Wanshang and Jia Chunyang’s faces, shaking his head with a soft sigh. Because of Xu Yang, it seemed as if everyone else had formed a united front.
“The only truly powerful contenders left are Jia Chunyang and Zhong Wanshang,” someone remarked.
“Although he hasn’t fought Ms Jinhua, she lost to Wei Ming. There’s no way she can match Xu Yang,” another added.
“Now it all comes down to whether Zhong Wanshang and Jia Chunyang can suppress him,” a third person chimed in. “If they can, there’s still hope. Otherwise, first place will go to that damn bastard, Chen Yingchuan.”
“Chen Yingchuan… what a despicable scumbag.”
“Still, there are four matches left. If he doesn’t draw either Zhong Wanshang or Jia Chunyang, it’s going to be agonizing to watch.”
The recovery time between matches was quite brief. It mostly depended on luck; if one faced a weak opponent, they could save a lot of energy. However, everyone immediately swallowed pills the moment they stepped off the battlefield, rushing to restore themselves to peak condition as quickly as possible. Xu Yang hadn’t expended much energy in his past few battles, and he was constantly replenishing it during combat. His immortal essence was quickly restored to its original state.
In the sixth match, his opponent was average.
Then came the seventh match.
Daoyuan Ancient City, Jia Chunyang.
“Jia Chunyang! GASP! They’re facing off in the seventh match, and he’s up even before Zhong Wanshang.”
“We’re in for a good show now.”
“Jia Chunyang is officially the strongest among us. If he can’t suppress Xu Yang, then there’s nothing more to say.”
“I feel like he should be able to win. Xu Yang’s freakish power has to have reached its limit by now. He can’t possibly be any more monstrous.”
Zhong Wanshang’s face revealed a look of astonishment. He hadn’t expected Jia Chunyang to run into Xu Yang first. Taking a deep breath, he fixed his gaze on the two of them. In a way, this was actually a good thing for him.
At the same time, Chen Yingchuan, Liou Sanqian, Lo Peng, and the others felt their hearts leap into their throats. The most crucial battle had arrived. As long as he won, there would be no more suspense. If they secured first place, everyone they brought along would be able to step into the Grotto Heaven and seize the fortuitous opportunity of the treasure pool. The other cultivators were so nervous that they held their breath.
Xu Yang and Jia Chunyang slowly walked into the restrictive barrier. As their eyes met, both wore solemn expressions. The next moment, without a single word exchanged, both men launched themselves forward simultaneously.
BOOM!
Xu Yang swung his saber, unleashing a ferocious tiger phantom. Its roar echoed through the heavens and the earth, radiating overwhelming murderous intent. Unwilling to be outdone, Jia Chunyang flicked his sleeve, upheaving a massive mountain range thousands of feet high and violently smashing it down.
BANG!
The mountain range and the tiger phantom saber light shattered together in a spectacular explosion. Immediately after, a figure surged forward with the momentum of a thunderbolt, instantly closing the distance. He thrust both palms forward like crashing waves against the shore. Each strike fell with the crushing weight of a heaven-supporting divine mountain, sending tremors through everyone’s souls.
It was Jia Chunyang. In an instant, Xu Yang was suppressed.
“What terrifying strength,” Xu Yang thought. He fought back with all his might, but for a time, he couldn’t tear through Jia Chunyang’s relentless assault. Completely locked down, he was reduced to parrying awkwardly.
“Since that’s the case, I’ll just turn this into a war of attrition,” he decided.
This had been his plan all along. He realized there was a slight gap between his own strength and Jia Chunyang’s. His only option was to wear his opponent out. In fact, it wouldn’t even matter if he lost this battle. Unless he ended up facing Zhong Wanshang and lost to him as well, no one could snatch first place away from Celestial Sword City’s Heaven’s Edge Tower.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Deafening, muffled explosions rang out endlessly. Jia Chunyang attacked ferociously, while Xu Yang continuously retreated, dodging and clumsily defending himself.
The spectating crowd watched with immense excitement.
“He’s going to win!”
“He really has reached his limit!”
“Jia Chunyang, put some force into it! Defeat him!”
“Mr. Jia, don’t let us down!”
The shouts from outside the barrier spurred Jia Chunyang on, making the blood rush to his head. Defeating Xu Yang would be a tremendous glory. Once Xu Yang fully matured, Jia Chunyang wouldn’t even be qualified to exchange blows with him. To defeat such a monstrous genius just once was something he could be proud of for the rest of his life. Promptly, his offensive intensified even further.
BANG!
Xu Yang was blasted several dozen feet away.
SWISH!
He rapidly swept his sleeves, gathering streams of astonishing saber light that merged into a majestic river, attempting to obstruct Jia Chunyang. Jia Chunyang’s expression remained unchanged. His figure suddenly distorted, turning into a spiraling drill that pierced through the torrential river with lightning speed. Carrying the might to tear the heavens and split the earth, he appeared directly in front of Xu Yang.
The distorted ripples expanded, generating an immense suction force. Xu Yang felt as if he were sinking into a quagmire, leaving him with nowhere to hide. His eyes narrowed. No longer retreating, his figure suddenly turned ethereal.
“Immortal Slaying Rain!”
SPLASH!
His entire being instantly twisted and vanished into thin air. Following that, the resounding clatter of sabers pierced through every direction of heaven and earth. Dense water droplets materialized between heaven and earth. In an instant, they transformed into a world-covering torrential downpour within the restrictive barrier. The rain was incredibly thick, with almost no gaps between the bean-sized drops. Each droplet was condensed with an abundance of fine saber qi, pouring down with chilling murderous intent. The world changed colors, and the winds and clouds spun wildly out of control.
“What kind of Divine Techniques are these? Where is his true body?” the crowd exclaimed, all of them turning pale. Even cultivators as powerful as those in the Late Stage of Golden Immortal found the techniques incredibly profound.
“Where is your true body?” Jia Chunyang, moving with the vigor of a dragon and tiger, rampaged forward, crushing large swathes of the rain. Suddenly, his eyes flashed. “Found you!”
BOOM!
Ferocious and direct, he smashed into the rain, creating a massive vacuum area before curling his hand into a claw and swiping at a specific spot.
“He discovered me this quickly?” Xu Yang thought, shocked and horrified. He felt a deep sense of dread toward Jia Chunyang’s strength; the old man truly lived up to his reputation as the strongest combatant among the thirty-six towers.
In the blink of an eye, Xu Yang held nothing back.
“Heaven Locking Will!”
The Heaven-Locking Divine Chain on the surface of the Minor Immortal Realm’s barrier was forcibly drawn out. In an instant, the world-encompassing torrential rain was completely wrapped up by the Heaven-Locking Divine Chain. Taking advantage of the rain’s lingering might, the chain brought the residual force to engulf Jia Chunyang.
“This move…” Jia Chunyang gasped, trembling all over. His eyes filled with horror as he sensed an immense crisis. The sealing might of the chain made his heart palpitate. He realized that once he was locked down, he would likely suffer a fierce counterattack.
At once, Jia Chunyang roared at the sky, his black hair dancing wildly in the wind. At this moment, the old man was as strong as a dragon or tiger, his imposing aura soaring into the heavens, striking fear into anyone’s soul.
BOOM!
He actually expanded to hundreds of feet in height, transforming into a terrifying giant that directly burst apart a large section of the Heaven-Locking Divine Chain. The giant soared into the sky, and the chain surged forward frantically, completely enveloping his body. This only made him look even more terrifying and eerie, causing countless cultivators outside the arena to shudder.
ROAR!
Jia Chunyang roared like a madman, his body vibrating and setting off ripple after ripple of energy.
“Not good,” Xu Yang exclaimed, his expression changing drastically. He wondered how it was possible that Jia Chunyang couldn’t be bound even with the empowerment of the Minor Immortal Realm’s Heaven-Locking Divine Chain.
Erupting with immortal essence, he executed the Wind Tribulation Tiger Fiend and slashed forward.
KABOOM!
Jia Chunyang furiously tore apart all the Heaven-Locking Divine Chains. Clenching his fist, he gathered all the energy ripples and punched down.
BANG!
CLANG CLANG CLANG!
The Daluo Saber let out a trembling hum. With a loud CRACK, Xu Yang’s wrist broke. Giving a muffled groan, he plummeted miserably like a kite with a snapped string.
With the momentum of an ancient beast, Jia Chunyang once again gathered all his strength and viciously stomped down toward Xu Yang.
BOOM!
The space beneath his foot was instantly stomped into an explosive burst.
