Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Niannian Goes to School, a Chance Encounter with a Bestie
The next day, Han Biwei got up bright and early, put on her prettiest outfit, and took the purse Qin Tianxuan had given her.
Meanwhile, Qin Tianxuan emerged from the small cottage next door, looking sharp and full of energy, having changed into a suit for the occasion.
Han Biwei came over to help him adjust his shirt and tie, looking every bit the part of a gentle, doting wife.
She was in a good mood and chattered about what had happened the day before, especially regarding Lingsu’s connection to the Shen Family.
"Lingsu is such a beautiful, wonderful girl from an incredible family. I never would have guessed she was one of the people you ran around with. You’d better not waste her youth."
Qin Tianxuan smiled faintly. "Lingsu and I were in the same trenches before. We’re comrades who have been through life and death together. I would never hold her back. In fact... it probably won’t be long before we have to return to the Northern Domain Battlefield."
Ah!
Han Biwei’s fingers trembled for a moment before she silently finished fastening his buttons.
"What’s wrong?" Qin Tianxuan asked, looking at her.
"It’s nothing. Those are matters of national importance, which I don’t understand. But I know you’re always thinking about the war. No matter what, you don’t have to worry about things at home. I’ll take good care of Niannian."
Han Biwei’s voice quavered slightly. She didn’t know when, but she had come to see Qin Tianxuan as someone she could truly rely on.
’Even though this man has retired,’ she thought, ’he’s still a veteran of the Battle Department. When the time comes, he’ll definitely have to go to the front lines.’
At that moment, Qin Tianxuan took her hand and said with great seriousness, "I’ll be fine. The Celestial Demons in the Northern Domain aren’t that scary. They’re just a remnant force. They can’t make any waves."
Han Biwei nodded firmly.
The two of them took Niannian to school, all in high spirits.
The entrance to Tianjiao Primary School was bustling with parents dropping off their children. As expected of Su City’s top-ranked school, luxury cars jammed the road, and adorable children were lined up in neat rows.
Qin Tianxuan was reluctant to put Niannian down, holding her in his arms as he gave her last-minute instructions.
Listen to your teacher, pay attention in class, study hard, and if anyone dares to bully you, you tell Dad...
He rambled on for more than ten minutes, until the school gates were about to close.
Han Biwei was speechless. "Hurry up! Do you want our daughter to be late on her first day? Don’t worry. Niannian’s been all over the country with me and has switched kindergartens several times. She’s very adaptable!"
Qin Tianxuan put his daughter down. Seeing her walk into the school with her little backpack, looking back every few steps, his eyes suddenly reddened, and he quickly turned aside.
The Night Emperor, who had dominated the Northern Domain and annihilated countless enemies, was now on the verge of tears.
Han Biwei walked over, stifling a laugh. "Are you crying?"
"Huh? No, how could I..." Qin Tianxuan’s voice was hoarse. He turned his head away in embarrassment and rubbed his eyes.
Just then, a white BMW pulled up across the street. The window rolled down to reveal a pretty, cheerful face. "Weiwei, is that really you? I saw you from a distance but couldn’t be sure!"
The car door opened, and a beautiful, vivacious girl in a flamboyant outfit stepped out.
Despite the cold weather, she was wearing a short skirt and black stockings that hugged her long legs, exuding a seductive charm.
"Weiwei, it’s me, Jingjing! What are you doing here at Tianjiao Primary School?" the girl asked, surprised.
"Oh, I’m dropping my child off at school."
The girl’s eyes widened. "No way! Your kid is already in primary school? After we graduated from junior high, didn’t you say you’d stay single forever?"
Han Biwei was a bit embarrassed and gestured to Qin Tianxuan. "This is my husband. Uh, Tianxuan, this is Yuan Jingjing, my deskmate from junior high and my best friend."
Seeing she was Weiwei’s good friend, Qin Tianxuan gave a polite nod.
But Yuan Jingjing was stunned all over again. "You... you’re really married?"
"Of course! How could I have a child without being married?" Han Biwei smiled. "If you’re busy, you should go. I just got back to Su City not long ago. We can catch up some other time."
"No way! Our old class monitor is getting everyone together today. It’s the perfect time for a reunion. I can’t let you get away!"
Yuan Jingjing, ever the cheerful and direct type, pulled Weiwei straight into her car. Then she smiled at Qin Tianxuan. "I’m just going to borrow Weiwei for a little while. You don’t mind, do you?"
Qin Tianxuan smiled faintly. "Weiwei, it’s not often you run into an old friend. Go and have some fun. I’ll wait here to pick up Niannian after school."
The car started up and headed straight for the sky restaurant at the Celestial Dome Mansion.
Yuan Jingjing chattered away the whole ride. "I was just dropping my niece off at school. What a coincidence! I heard about what happened with the Han Family, Weiwei. Don’t let it get to you. You’re better off leaving a rotten family like that. With any random job, you won’t have to worry about supporting yourself, right?"
At this, she grew curious again. "So what does your husband do? He looks so stern and serious, but man, is he handsome!"
Han Biwei’s mind was a million miles away, and she really didn’t want to go to this reunion. "Um, he used to be a soldier. He just retired."
"Wow! I absolutely adore soldiers! If I’d known, I would have brought him along." Yuan Jingjing was off again. "But you know, our old class monitor still has a thing for you. He was asking me about you just a while ago!"
Han Biwei rubbed her temples. "What was his name again? I’ve almost forgotten."
Yuan Jingjing was speechless. "Zhang Haodong! You’d better remember it. The guy is so infatuated with you, and you can’t even remember his name."
The car had already arrived at the parking garage of the Celestial Dome Mansion.
Han Biwei forced herself to cheer up. She picked up the purse Qin Tianxuan had given her and started rummaging through her wallet with a frown.
Yuan Jingjing understood immediately and grabbed her arm. "Zhang Haodong is treating today, so we don’t have to split the bill. I know you’re tight on cash right now. And look at that purse... sigh, it’s so plain. I feel bad just looking at it."
