Chapter 731: Reporting
Chapter 731: Chapter 82: Reporting
After thinking for a moment, Chen Chuan looked at Tian Rui, who seemed to have already given up, and asked, “So, Elder Tian, what was that letter you sent a few days ago about?”
Tian Rui clutched at his hair. “The camp sent a message a few days ago,” he said. “It said the branch had been re-established, that you’d captured one of their people, and that I should be careful.
But, Manager Chen, do you know what? The moment I heard the news, I wasn’t afraid. I was genuinely happy and excited. But…”
He looked at his own trembling hands, and his vision seemed to turn blood-red again.
“It reminded me of that scene from back then. I don’t want you to clash with him again. He’s too powerful. You’re no match for him. The branch will only be massacred again.”
Chen Chuan said, “I know he’s very strong. However, if he has already reached a certain level, we won’t get a chance to confront him directly. If he hasn’t, then there’s nothing to fear.”
“But,” Tian Rui said, suddenly anxious, “even if he doesn’t act himself, you still can’t beat him.”
Chen Chuan looked up at him. “Is it because of the Swamp Training Camp?”
Tian Rui nodded vigorously.
Chen Chuan said calmly, “The training camp itself probably isn’t enough.”
As Chen Chuan spoke, Tian Rui felt his breath catch. Although Chen Chuan had retracted his spiritual pressure, Tian Rui still felt an immense oppressive force.
He had felt something like this from that man before. He couldn’t help but look at Chen Chuan, a glimmer of hope appearing in his eyes. A moment later, however, he shook his head, and the light faded.
He said, “The leader has a student. A young man he once rescued named Qi Qianyang. Because of his great talent, the leader always kept him by his side. We’ve all met him.
Although he never joined the Pure Sect, we all felt it was only a matter of time before he did.
The leader’s student is exceptionally talented; even the leader couldn’t stop praising him. He was always with the leader afterward. When the leader came here to see Xiaowo, he brought him along several times. He’s also one of the two instructors at the Swamp Training Camp.
He came to see me not long ago. Just three days ago, in fact.”
He looked up at Chen Chuan. “He sat right where you’re sitting now, Manager Chen. His power is immense, truly immense. He reminded me of the leader back then. You…” He shook his head. “You’re no match for him.”
Chen Chuan remained noncommittal about this assessment. “This information is very useful,” he said. “But you don’t need to worry about how the branch will handle this, Elder Tian. I have one more question: do you know anything about the other people at the Swamp Training Camp?”
“I know a little. Aside from Qi Qianyang, the others are decent, but their strength is pretty average.”
Chen Chuan nodded. “One more question,” he said. “When I found you earlier, Elder Tian, Xiaowo seemed very agitated. Do you have other enemies?”
Tian Rui suddenly looked a little embarrassed. “Besides fixing things, my Fighting Skills are decent enough. Over the years, I’ve often helped out and sponsored some friends, which has caused a lot of trouble. My wife and Xiaowo don’t want me associating with them, but whenever someone comes to me for help, I don’t have the heart to refuse.
As for Xiaowo…”
He hesitated. “Also, people from the training camp have often told him that someone is always looking for me and him, and that he needs to be careful. He believed them…”
Chen Chuan glanced over and saw Tian Rui lower his head again. ‘It isn’t hard to guess what he’s thinking. He’s afraid the Pure Sect’s arrival will be bad for Xiaowo, so he tacitly approved of this narrative.’
Chen Chuan didn’t comment on this. He simply asked a few more questions. Once he had a general understanding of the situation, he stood up.
“Elder Tian, I’ve recorded your statement. I will report the situation to the Sect. If we need to understand anything else, I’ll come back and ask.”
Tian Rui looked up, stunned. “You… you’re not taking me back?” he asked in disbelief.
Chen Chuan said, “Today, I just came to understand the situation. While you have violated some regulations, the specific handling of your case isn’t something I can decide on my own. It requires a ruling from the Sect. So, I will report the matter first. Until then, I won’t take any action against you.
But I do hope you won’t be leaving.”
Tian Rui nodded repeatedly. “Yes, I won’t run away again this time! But Xiaowo… what about Xiaowo…” He trailed off, looking extremely anxious.
Chen Chuan said, “Xiaowo’s situation is unique. Although he appears normal for now, it’s hard to say for sure. I’m sorry, but this is also something I can’t decide. However, I can guarantee that nothing will happen to him for the time being.”
‘He knew very well that when dealing with these kinds of entities, one couldn’t just judge by appearances. Without detailed analysis, no one could make a definitive judgment.’
‘Besides, if they were to take action, they’d have to be fully prepared, as it might provoke an extreme reaction from that man. For now, he decided to maintain the status quo and report to the Sect before proceeding.’
Tian Rui looked dejected after hearing this, but he knew that with Chen Chuan having found this place, the matter wouldn’t be resolved so simply.
Just then, a noise came from the top of the stairs. A small head poked out. “Dad, is my skateboard fixed yet?”
Tian Rui glanced over, saying with some irritation, “Xiaolei, what is it? Didn’t Dad just tell you not to come down?”
As if realizing his tone was too harsh, he added, “Sorry, Xiaolei. Dad’s not mad at you. We have a guest. The skateboard will be fixed in a bit. Why don’t you go back upstairs for now, okay?”
Chen Chuan said, “Elder Tian, go be with your son. I’ll see myself out.”
After a brief farewell, he declined Tian Rui’s offer to walk him out and left the house.
Once outside, he immediately saw Xiaowo sitting on the wooden steps on the large lawn across the way.
He averted his gaze and walked toward his car.
Xiaowo, however, jumped down and walked right up to him. “Who exactly are you?”
Chen Chuan looked at him. ‘Regardless, Xiaowo is currently living as a human, and there are no visible abnormalities.’ He replied, “Your father will tell you about that.”
Xiaowo stared at him. “I don’t care who you are, you’re not welcome to disturb our family’s life. I can’t beat you now, but don’t get ahead of yourself. I will defeat you eventually.”
Chen Chuan looked at his defiant eyes. ‘Setting aside the boy’s origins, his innate talent was truly excellent. His technique, however, was very ordinary. It was clear he hadn’t received systematic training and couldn’t fully unleash his abilities.’
‘Tian Rui must not have taught him properly, and it seems his so-called ‘other’ father hadn’t either. They probably didn’t want him to draw too much attention.’
‘However, if he could identify his weaknesses and work to overcome them, his combat effectiveness would be much greater than this.’
He said, “I look forward to it.”
With that said, he opened the car door and got inside. The car started up quickly and, under Xiaowo’s watchful gaze, drove away, eventually disappearing into the glare of the afternoon sun.
After driving away, Chen Chuan glanced to the side and saw Liu Yin again. He was on the roadside talking to someone, periodically looking over at the road. When he spotted Chen Chuan’s car, he gave a wave.
Chen Chuan slowed the car and lowered the window. Liu Yin walked over. “Leaving, Manager Chen?”
Chen Chuan nodded.
Liu Yin spoke quickly, “I might be joining the Processing Bureau next month.”
‘Chen Chuan knew this. The best talents from the Fighting Master Clans all went to the Processing Bureau. Many within the Bureau came from these clans, like Ni Qianqian.’
‘This faction was actually very influential within the Processing Bureau. People like Cheng Shang served as departmental consultants, not only holding significant sway but also possessing deep connections in both the military and Wuyi Academy.’
He said, “Congratulations. It seems we’ll be colleagues soon.”
Liu Yin sighed. “It’s just, this path was planned out for me long ago. My grandfather took it, and so did my uncle. It’s a good path, but I can see my entire life laid out before me, right to the very end. I don’t want to just walk the path they’ve designed.”
Chen Chuan said, “I have a small team. Are you interested?”
Liu Yin asked, pleasantly surprised, “Can I?”
Chen Chuan said, “If your elders don’t object.”
Liu Yin said, “They won’t. Although they have their plans, they’ve said that my talent surpasses theirs and that they’re willing to respect my choices. Besides, if it means following you, Manager Chen, I’m sure they won’t stand in my way.”
He looked at Chen Chuan in the driver’s seat. ‘Even though this deviates from the set path, I feel it has a much brighter future.’
Chen Chuan said, “Brother Liu, once you get to the Bureau, just file a report directly to me.”
“Yes, sir!”
Liu Yin saluted in the manner of his elders.
The window slowly rolled up. The car started moving again and drove off down the road.
After leaving the residential area, Chen Chuan went straight back to the apartment serving as the team’s temporary base. He found Chang Dong and Gao Yanjun and briefed them on the situation.
After listening, Chang Dong sighed. “So that’s what happened back then. But…” He frowned. “There are still some inconsistencies and suspicious details.”
Chen Chuan said, “According to Tian Rui’s account, he didn’t participate in the operation to surround that target. And since he wasn’t a core member back then, there’s a lot he isn’t clear on.”
Chang Dong said, “Regardless, we first need to report what we’ve learned about Tian Rui and wait for a decision from our superiors.”
