Chapter 1683 -825: Plans for the Future (4,000 Words)
Because Song Chi came, Zhou Yun rarely went to the bar with Hugh Redman and the others after filming.
She didn’t really want to go before, but since she was alone, if she didn’t go, she’d just stay at the hotel, which was quite boring, so she still went.
Song Chi told her, “Just do your own thing. You don’t have to come accompany me right after filming; it’s really a waste of your time.”
“It’s not a waste. What are you thinking?”
“You’re pretty familiar with the crew, aren’t you? You guys usually have gatherings and such,” Song Chi said. “I noticed you’ve been attending them less often recently.”
Zhou Yun said, “That’s true, mainly because they probably know you’re here, so they don’t really invite me anymore.”
Song Chi smiled a bit.
Zhou Yun shook her head and said, “No worries, they might not be very familiar with you, plus since you just arrived, they probably know it’s inconvenient to disturb us. It’ll be fine in a couple of days.”
Song Chi put down the materials in his hand, stood up, and said, “Staying here with you feels unexpectedly comfortable.”
Outside the hotel window, the sky was a wash of bright blue connecting to the city.
The sunshine was great here, and the air felt joyful.
“That’s because you’re here without the crew, without the company, without anyone or anything bothering you. As long as you silence your phone, the whole world is peaceful.”
Zhou Yun teased Song Chi.
Song Chi said, “You’re right. Here, as long as my phone is on silent, I can quietly do what I want without anyone disturbing me.”
Suddenly remembering something, he handed the materials he had to Zhou Yun.
“Can you take a look for me?”
“Hmm?” Zhou Yun took it, puzzled, and asked, “What’s this?”
Song Chi said, “These are the projects our company intends to produce over the next three years, along with some projects co-produced with other companies. The broadcast data for ‘Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall’ looked good. Several video platforms approached us, wanting to commission a drama similar to ‘Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall.’ We’ve also prepared a few projects on our side.”
“I haven’t seen ‘Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall’ in its entirety. It seems like a lighthearted historical comedy?”
“Yes, it’s the story of a lively, bickering couple who eventually fall in love,” Song Chi said. “Actually, this story model has been around for a long time and is always classic. But how to present old concepts in new ways is a problem all story departments in film companies are constantly researching.”
Zhou Yun glanced at the few projects marked “modeled after ‘Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall'” in the materials.
After reading the line of synopses, Zhou Yun immediately understood why Song Chi felt this way.
The three story synopses were, well, very mediocre and boring.
It’s not that a story has to be innovative to be captivating, but none of these three stories had any appealing elements. It was merely fabricated from a storytelling perspective into a complete narrative.
Zhou Yun looked at Song Chi and saw a faint trace of worry on his face, asking, “You think these three stories are pretty average, right?”
“Hmm, you feel that way too, don’t you?” Otherwise, you wouldn’t ask so directly.
Zhou Yun nodded, frank and candid: “Indeed very mediocre. Did you have screenwriters write these synopses?”
“Yes, the scripts haven’t formally started yet, but even at the synopsis stage, I find them rather uninteresting. Even if made into full scripts, they don’t captivate me.”
“Do they have to be made?”
“We’ve already agreed with those video platforms. Next month, we’ll discuss the progress of these projects with them separately. If the discussions go well, they’ll start paying us and sign collaboration agreements.”
Time’s stuck here.
Zhou Yun said, “If that’s the case, it can’t be postponed further, right?”
“Postponing is possible, but I worry that even if we delay, we won’t come up with anything better,” Song Chi said. “These story outlines have been revised many times, but they’re fundamentally flawed—bad things stay bad.”
Zhou Yun asked, “What about the screenwriter who worked on ‘Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall’ previously?”
“They’re currently writing the sequel and a web spin-off for ‘Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall,’ so they’re too tied up to take this on,” Song Chi replied.
“Why not hold an online creative story contest?” Zhou Yun suggested. “I often see great creative ideas online. Why not solicit creative stories featuring lovably adversarial couples under the name of ‘Daughter Will Not Leave the Hall’? If there are good ideas, buy them, then have a seasoned screenwriter expand the story into a script.”
