Chapter 160: Tomorrow’s Match Result
Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Tomorrow’s Match Result
After the medic finished bandaging Jay Monroe’s wound, he took out a bag of blue-red pills and told him to take one, then called others over to help look after him, and went off to check the wounds of several other injured team members.
Renee Morgan and Dane couldn’t really do much to help; watching Jay Monroe wrapped up in bandages like a mummy, they both struggled to keep from laughing.
Jay Monroe opened his big eyes, glared at the two, and painfully held his head.
Renee Morgan sighed, about to step over and help, but Dane beat her to it, half-supporting Jay in his arms.
With Renee’s thin frame, there’s no way she could take care of a guy who’s almost six-foot-two.
Dane didn’t really want to, but had no choice but to step up.
Because of the injury, Jay Monroe temporarily lost his sense of smell. Maybe it was psychological, but he kept feeling Dane and his ripped muscles were giving off some stench of sweat, so he tried to push him away.
But Dane hugged him tighter, not letting him move: "Stop moving, follow doctor’s orders."
Jay Monroe rolled his eyes with effort: "I don’t need you looking after me."
Dane was getting annoyed too, his face dark: "Doctor said to watch you, behave."
Jay Monroe: "..."
Renee Morgan: "..." Wanting to laugh, holding back.
The two medics were really skilled, handling the wounds quickly; Renee Morgan followed behind them, checking on the injuries of the others.
Luckily, Jay Monroe was the worst off. Some guys had scraped foreheads—wounds weren’t big; someone had a huge bump swelling on their head, and the lighter cases were just dizzy and nauseous, no serious external injuries.
Night fell fast.
When the team leader led the main force through Team Red’s territory, they brought all sorts of survival gear, including tents—and also lights.
The first floor of the abandoned factory was lit up, crowded with people.
Except for Jay Monroe half-lying against Bama, everyone else sat on the dry grass-strewn ground or on stones.
The reinforcement squad arriving by sea should’ve reached sooner than the land team—just half a day’s journey—but after delays, it was only about an hour ago that Renee Morgan and Dane brought them in.
Tonight, they were going to strategize the assault on Team Red Tower, which might also be the final showdown of this competition.
After today’s fight on the land route, they’d racked up over ten kills against Team Red. Counting it up, Team Red’s armed units now had only about fifty people left.
Team Blue, with the reinforcements included, had over eighty. With a few badly injured unable to fight, there were still more than seventy ready to attack Team Red Tower—pretty good odds.
Jay Monroe wasn’t too bad off—his injury wasn’t unbearable; his head wrapped in gauze left him a bit dizzy. After hearing Dane describe today’s land battle, he couldn’t help asking: "Hugh was there and he didn’t make a move?"
On Team Blue, two had been killed, and the ones who scored weren’t Hugh.
Dane shook his head and said, "His gun barrel was pointed right at me—no way he didn’t do anything. But after Renee Morgan fired that arrow with her crossbow, he went silent."
"Why?" Jay Monroe was puzzled, his eyes under the bandages glancing at Renee: "Morgan, did you hit his arm?"
Everyone turned their eyes to Renee Morgan in unison.
A lot of teammates looked at her with dazzling admiration and hope.
Renee quickly figured out these were the newly arrived reinforcements; most had come by land, easy to spot with bandages on their heads or arms.
"Nope." Renee answered emphatically.
"So what happened?" Jay Monroe caught her tone—there was more to it.
Renee gave a thoughtful look, then slowly said, "I just... happened to shoot that arrow right into his sniper rifle."
Jay Monroe: "..."
Dane: "..."
The other teammates: "..."
If it wasn’t a coincidence, it was a perfect kill; if it was, the arrow went straight into his gun barrel.
Jay Monroe smacked his lips—was Hugh still alive? Had he kicked the bucket from rage?
Jay Monroe and the others had just found out. The viewers in the livestream had ’witnessed’ that arrow shoot straight into Hugh’s sniper rifle’s muzzle.
Seeing everyone onsite all stunned and silent, exchanging glances, Renee felt pretty proud.
The haters were venting nonsense, but there were two things they couldn’t criticize Renee for: first, she was an absolute sniper ace on the field—no question; second, her looks—Jay Monroe, Hugh, and Dane all had faces that could rival top stars, but no matter who Renee appeared on camera with, she always outshone them visually.
"Let me see your short arrow," Jay Monroe said, a suspicion in his mind needing confirmation.
Renee took one from her waist and handed it to him.
The crossbow and short arrows were all crafted by her; each arrow wasn’t exactly identical, but pretty much the same size.
With his head bandaged up, Jay Monroe watched as Dane took the short arrow, then grabbed Jay’s sniper rifle and compared the barrel diameter and gun length.
Renee immediately understood, leaning closer: "If you shove it in, could it come out again?"
Dane glanced at Jay Monroe, suppressing his urge to mess with it.
If he really stuffed the arrow into Jay’s sniper, he was afraid a murder might happen tonight.
Jay Monroe would kill him!
"The arrow and the gun barrel are pretty much the same diameter, and the gun’s longer than the arrow. Considering what Hugh did, I figure it’s..." Dane shook his head, his tone full of schadenfreude.
Jay Monroe held his head, excitedly sitting up: "Exactly... If he could pull the arrow out of his rifle, there’s no way he’d leave so easily."
A rush of exhilaration washed over him.
The two were rivals in this competition, and Hugh’s actions were understandable—if Jay had been in Hugh’s shoes, he wouldn’t have shown mercy either.
But anyone who’d just dodged death would be glad if the culprit ended up down on their luck.
"Hugh’s a sniper—without his rifle, it’s like losing an arm." Someone in the crowd said, all fired up.
The ones who’d fought at sea all had a deep respect for Hugh—he was the nastiest, toughest sniper on Team Red.
Renee Morgan’s eyes lit up, but she answered seriously, "Still, don’t let your guard down. If he figures out a way to get the arrow out... And, I remember he’s pretty skilled; he has a combat knife, so stay alert everyone."
Jay Monroe nodded vigorously at her side: "He’s good—but just a bit below me."
"..."
Hugh’s sniper rifle possibly out of commission—this news hit like a shot of adrenaline, pumping everyone up, and the team quickly outlined their plan to attack Team Red Tower.
Dane was an assault guy, packing a machine gun. For the attack on Team Red Tower, he’d lead Bama and four others as the vanguard, with the leader right behind, and Renee as sniper, operating solo at the rear.
Jay Monroe and the other seriously wounded would stay at camp to recover, with the lightly injured all assigned frontline roles.
Jay had always been competitive, but his current state really wasn’t fit for intense action—if he pushed through and collapsed, he’d only drag his teammates down.
