Cast as the Foil, She Went Viral on a Military Reality Show
Chapter 121: Showing Off Martial Arts
Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Showing Off Martial Arts
If it hadn’t been for Renee Morgan bursting in halfway through, Jay Monroe would’ve been out ages ago—no way he’d have snuck into Team Red Tower and caused this much damage.
Hugh grunted in reply, clearly not wanting to say more, but finally added, "We’re good friends."
The two of them entered the base together, but didn’t expect to be assigned to opposite teams, ending up as rivals.
Louis had considered that they knew each other, but never guessed they were actually good friends?
Thinking of how Hugh kept targeting Jay Monroe again and again with deadly strikes, Louis wiped the cold sweat on his forehead. That’s why, he thought, he never envied people with "good friends."
"Ah, I wonder what that female sniper looks like..." Louis leaned on the railing, swinging back and forth, his voice full of curiosity.
Hugh looked pensive, his expression almost as if...
Louis thought he must’ve seen it wrong, quickly turning to ask, "Hugh, do you actually know Renee Morgan?"
"Saw her once in the base forest with Jay Monroe." Not really "knowing" her.
"How does she look?" Louis gestured to his biceps, "Built like a tank?"
It wasn’t meant to be malicious guessing—anyone who could haul a heavy sniper rifle and nail impossible shots, getting praised as a sharpshooter, had to be a powerhouse.
Hugh glanced at the ugly muscles bulging on Louis’s arm and looked away with a bit of disgust, speaking lazily, "Don’t remember what she looks like."
Louis got what that meant: basically, an ordinary face, nothing memorable.
"Alright, so how did she perform in the base forest?" That’s what Louis cared about more.
Looks didn’t really matter; lots of pretty people in the world, but without strength, no matter how good you look, you’re only fit to be someone’s plaything in their hands.
How was her performance?
Hugh thought back to that night.
Her teammates had all been knocked out, but she didn’t panic. She calmly washed apples for them, quietly bided her time—at least back then, none of them made a move against her.
After a violent rainstorm and then sleet, both Jay Monroe and Hugh got sick, blew the whistle, and were eliminated.
She probably didn’t last much longer, either?
Hugh snapped out of his thoughts, folded his arms against the sea breeze, and gave a cool assessment: "She’s pretty sharp, knows when to yield and when to go for it."
It took Louis a while to piece together the real story.
Maybe Renee Morgan wasn’t as strong as everyone imagines?
Hugh saw right through Louis’s thought, a trace of mockery flashing across his handsome face as he dropped a line: "Guess I misjudged her back then."
That surrender at the time—was it so, one day she could teach them a lesson?
Guess they’d had a taste now.
Team Red Tower was ambushed, their defense systems badly damaged. With the tower on the verge of being breached, the Team Red commander urgently recalled their combat units from the sea.
Hearing about Team Red’s retreat, Team Blue’s commander immediately sent reinforcements via land to Team Red’s territory, prepping Jay Monroe’s squad of seven for the attack on Team Red Tower.
With Team Red Tower hit so hard, if they insisted on attacking Team Blue’s customs post and something else happened to the tower—letting Blue team seize the opportunity—they’d lose the match for sure; it wasn’t a risk worth taking.
The mud hut was a dump, but Renee Morgan was too exhausted to care. She buried her head into her arms and fell fast asleep. When she woke, the sky was already a cool gray.
The other six were still asleep. She slipped out quietly, went off to the stream by the fields to wash up, came back, and found them still zonked out.
Seeing it was still early, Renee Morgan dismantled her sniper rifle, grabbed a wooden staff, and began training in the small yard outside the mud hut.
Her grandfather was a martial arts inheritor in the family, strict with her father and the others, but he never pushed Renee like her cousins and fellow disciples, never made her train as hard.
Maybe she picked it up by osmosis. As a kid, she loved practicing with them. Whatever time they got up, she got up even earlier. However long they trained, she was often the last one to wrap up.
Martial arts training is never easy—having endured so much hardship, any physical suffering no longer feels like suffering. What seems impossible for others has become routine for her.
Renee Morgan treated the wooden staff like a spear, legs wide, staff and body moving as one—blocking, wielding, thrusting...the sound of the stick cutting the air echoed throughout the yard.
Jay Monroe and Dane woke up almost at the same time, wiped their faces in a rush, each grabbed a bottle and washed up, wetted their hair, then used their fingers to comb their jet-black hair back, trying to create the coolest, slickest style possible.
Both looked up at once, caught sight of each other’s bedhead, instantly looked away in mutual disgust, and continued hair maintenance, scanning the room.
Not seeing Renee Morgan, neither cared in the slightest.
Jay Monroe gave lazy kicks to the other four: "Wake up, wake up! Look at the time! Even the pigs are awake—you’re still sleeping!"
Bama opened blurry eyes, realized the "pig" Jay Monroe referred to was Morgan, and blurted out: "Doesn’t that make us worse than pigs?"
Jay Monroe: "..." Was that an insult for him, or for him?
Bama got booted in the butt, hopped up from the ground, clutching his backside and stomping around the hut. By chance, he caught a glimpse out the window into the yard—saw a figure, graceful as a dragon, moving like the wind—and forgot all about the pain, gripping the ancient wooden windowsill tightly.
Jay Monroe and Dane exchanged a look and almost instantly crowded up for a peek.
The other three couldn’t get in, so they went straight to the door, craning their necks to see what was up in the yard.
That slender silhouette spun her staff, launched into a backflip, waist twisting along, the staff cutting through the air with heroic intensity.
Not just Jay Monroe and his crew were stunned—viewers in the livestream chat were thrilled too.
Most martial arts or kung fu movies you see feature male heroes, all full of swagger and justice.
But the way Renee Morgan wielded that staff looked more like a work of art than a movie, her form and spirit united, blending with the staff into one—a martial aura soaring with epic energy, shaking the heavens, blowing everyone away.
[I’ve seen old martial arts vids of Morgan, but this is the first time her real skills are on display during the show. Yeah, there are plenty of flashy martial arts performances out there, but Morgan genuinely feels like she’s doing martial arts, the rest are just routines. Z-nation kung fu—so damn cool.]
[Ah, I saw it! I saw it! That flipping staff move—a backflip, twist at the waist...I just watched a similar move on a competition show last night.
The latest episode aired yesterday—the female action star was teaching a young actress kung fu moves, and later they brought in a pro martial arts coach for solo instruction.
But the actress trained for days and still couldn’t do ’backflip with waist twist,’
She could only swing the fancy staff around.
I thought the action star’s demonstration was badass.
The actress kept saying she’d change the move to make it prettier... (couldn’t learn it but wanted to change it, action star refused, actress started crying and trended online)]
