Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Do You Think the Honey Badger Only Relies on Brute Force?

Should we keep attacking Team Blue’s checkpoint, land ashore, and head straight for their headquarters, or do we need to adjust tactics and counter Jay Monroe and his crew?

Kennedy heard that they might retreat, and couldn’t believe it: "Only a few people from Team Blue could possibly infiltrate. We’ve got so many left at Team Red HQ—how hard can it be to handle a couple of guys?"

Sea combat, red and blue clashing at a critical moment; Team Blue can’t send many, at best a few elite members.

Team Red Commander: "Yeah, it’s just a few. But it’s Jay Monroe and Dane..."

And that female sniper, still off the radar.

These are Team Blue’s strongest members.

Kennedy: "So what about Jay Monroe and Dane? I’ve cornered Jay Monroe before, ha, as for the sniper—we thought she was so fierce! We had her surrounded, and she nearly cried herself into the ocean..."

As he recalled that, he pulled a mock-crying face, his lips pursed in a pout, full of ridicule.

The people around couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing.

Louis wanted to laugh too, but caught Hugh’s cold, pitch-black eyes and could only bite his lips, bowing his head all serious.

Kennedy covered his mouth, cracked up, then stopped when he saw Hugh’s obvious impatience, shoulders shaking: "Fine, I know you’re not just worried about Jay Monroe or Dane—it’s the woman. But..."

He spread his hands, looking at the others: "Like I said before, why else wouldn’t she show herself? She’s scared of exposing her position, afraid we’ll surround her."

If they could trap Jay Monroe once, they could do it again. Renee Morgan wouldn’t be an exception, either.

"Secure the home front before dealing with outsiders"—Team Blue’s invasion of Team Red’s territory, and all elite members at that, how could they comfortably keep attacking Team Blue’s checkpoint?

Team Red HQ had plenty of defenders, but most of their best were at sea. The infiltrating Team Blue squad couldn’t immediately threaten the command building, but just their presence nearby was enough to keep everyone restless.

The Team Red Commander eventually decided to reassign a group of elites from sea back to HQ.

Surprisingly, Kennedy, who’d always opposed redirecting any squad back to HQ, volunteered to lead the return group.

The Commander agreed—sea ops couldn’t go without Hugh or Louis.

Jude had already headed back to HQ, and Kennedy was one of the top strike operatives. Him leading the counter-squad against infiltrators couldn’t be more fitting.

After the meeting, everyone left the cabin. Louis followed Kennedy, confused: "Didn’t you say you didn’t agree with sending anyone back?"

Kennedy always thought the sea battle was key—once Team Red landed, taking Team Blue HQ was only a matter of time.

As for Jay Monroe and co invading Team Red’s territory, he saw them as mere clowns, wouldn’t last long.

Louis couldn’t figure out why Kennedy suddenly volunteered for the task.

Blocking the cabin door, Louis forced Kennedy to step back, leaning against a chair and stopping, half-smiling: "You all insisted on sending someone. I just want you to see—those guys...are nothing but grasshoppers."

He even ground his toe against the floor, eyes flashing a trace of disdain.

Before dark, Renee Morgan’s four-person team made it back to base.

Jay Monroe, Dane, and their group got back first; three of them sat together gnawing on compressed biscuits. When they heard movement, they jumped up—then saw it was just their own, and dropped back down.

After a break, everyone started reporting their team’s results.

When they heard Jay Monroe and Dane’s trio went right up to Team Red Tower and got headshots, Renee Morgan’s group gave them looks of deep respect.

Renee Morgan was pretty clear, though—this operation was probably another wild idea from Dane and Jay Monroe, and Boland was just along for the ride.

Jay Monroe and Dane soaked up their admiration, but their faces stayed calm.

Renee Morgan ate half a biscuit, sipping slowly from her canteen.

Suddenly, Jay Monroe and Dane crowded close, left and right, boxing her in.

Renee Morgan nearly poured water up her own nose in shock.

Jay Monroe reached over and took the canteen from her, screwing the lid closed.

Dane leaned excitedly: "Renee Morgan, we’re gonna try a sneak attack on Team Red Tower—will you cover us?"

The tone was consulting, but not even a bit polite.

Jay Monroe looked just as pumped: "I’ll go with Dane, you stay outside, give us cover at the crucial moment, make sure we can get out safe."

Renee Morgan’s sharp brows and eyes were calm as ever—she refused instantly: "No."

"Why not?" Dane frowned.

Renee Morgan gave him a chilly look: "Didn’t we agree not to hit Team Red Tower?"

Team Red Tower’s got defense systems—even if they could get in, getting out would be way harder.

Dane sounded righteous: "If you don’t enter the tiger’s den, how do you get the tiger’s cub?"

"..." She couldn’t believe his Chinese idioms were this good?

Renee Morgan couldn’t get through to Dane, so she turned to Jay Monroe, hitting him with the hard questions: "Do you even know how the defense system works?"

Jay Monroe hesitated, shook his head: "N...not really."

Renee Morgan raised her brows. Before she could say more, Dane jumped in bright-eyed: "Morgan, I know, I know!"

"..." Yeah, right.

Renee Morgan reluctantly looked back at Dane, talking her heart out: "The tower’s defense system was designed by a bunch of top engineers—even if you get some theory, you can’t know all the hidden mechanisms. If you miss something..."

Theory and practice are two different things. One slip and you could be trapped.

Renee knew this thanks to a command briefing they had once, where they watched simulation videos of similar defense systems.

She expected that’d be enough to calm Dane down—but he turned out to be a stubborn rock, shaking his head: "No need to dodge."

Renee Morgan: "?"

Dane made a gesture: "I can dismantle it."

"..."

Renee Morgan was momentarily speechless, finally managed: "Come on, the tower defense system can’t be just like the others..."

Dane’s eyes got even brighter: "Good, if it’s different, that’s even better—I want to take apart something new."

"..."

Renee Morgan and Jay Monroe exchanged a glance, and asked at the same time: "So what kind have you dismantled?"

With a blade of grass in his mouth, Dane sat on the hay, one hand propped behind him, smirking: "The defense system at Team Blue Tower."

He wrinkled his nose about it: "That system was totally lame—if anyone really invaded, it’d last maybe two minutes, five tops."

"But I rebuilt it. As long as it’s not tanks and planes, once it’s activated, it’ll be an iron wall—nobody’s getting through."
