Chapter 897: Chapter 323: Why Does Everyone Want to Ban Yang Chen’s Account? (Part 3)
Wang Baoxi: "Huh?! Yang Chen, the boss of Star Investment? No way! Are you sure? You mean that Star Investment where everything they buy shoots up?"
Chen Wei: "Yep! I just signed a contract with Star Investment’s CEO, Jin Ming. Star Investment is now the second-largest shareholder of Bibi Group. She also specifically told me that their boss, Yang Chen, is driving ride-hail cars on the Bibi platform, and asked me to order the Hai City Branch to take extra good care of him."
Wang Baoxi: "Damn! I knew it, how could some random ride-hail driver have a bodyguard following him around? Fuck, he’s the boss of Star Investment and even invested in Bibi Group—no wonder he’s so arrogant! But I just can’t swallow this. President Chen, you really can’t help me out a bit?"
Hai City Petrochemical is a large petrochemical processing company controlled by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, one of the real heavyweights. As CEO, Wang Baoxi naturally wouldn’t be afraid of Yang Chen, the boss of Star Investment.
Normally speaking, when it’s a state-owned enterprise against a private company, there really is no reason to be afraid.
Chen Wei: "President Wang, please don’t make things hard for me. If he deliberately casts a no vote at the shareholders’ meeting or something, I’m screwed too. After all, they hold 15% of the equity, that’s a lot of voting power. If they team up with the major shareholder SoftBank, they’ll have 36% of the voting rights, and my proposals might not pass. So, sorry, but I can’t afford to offend a shareholder with that much voting power. If you really can’t swallow this, then use Hai City Petrochemical’s connections. You’re the CEO—dealing with a private investment company is still within your power."
Wang Baoxi felt that made sense, muttered a few more curses, and hung up.
Even if he used Hai City Petrochemical’s connections, it still wouldn’t really affect an investment company.
Unless he leveraged Hai City Petrochemical’s connections to stir things up with the securities regulator and got the Commission to launch an investigation into Star Investment. Doesn’t matter whether Star Investment has any real issues—just investigate them thoroughly first.
He was basically acting like a toad: can’t kill anyone, but can disgust them to death.
On the other side, Li Changqi, CEO of Bibi Group’s Hai City Branch, was reading documents when he got a call from Group President Chen Wei.
Li Changqi: "Hello, President Chen, please give your instructions."
Chen Wei: "Xiaoli, you’ve got a driver named Yang Chen at the Hai City Branch, right? You must take extra good care of him. He’s the boss of Star Investment. Star Investment just signed an equity deal with the Group and is now the second-largest shareholder. If anything comes up in future, you have to prioritize protecting his interests. Got it?"
In his excitement, Li Changqi knocked over the hot water beside him and yelped from the burn.
"What’s wrong? Did someone hit you?" Chen Wei hurriedly asked.
Li Changqi quickly replied, "No, no. President Chen, you’re not joking with me, right? Yang Chen is the boss of Star Investment? The same Star Investment that’s slaughtering everyone in the stock market?"
Chen Wei: "That’s right! The boss of that very Star Investment. So, you’ve got to really look after him—assign a dedicated customer service rep to handle all his issues properly. Understood?"
Li Changqi: "Understood! Understood! My god, how is the boss of Star Investment out here driving ride-hail cars for us? He’s been doing it for two years already, he’s really good at hiding his identity."
Chen Wei: "Hahaha... The guy’s got too many businesses; one person can’t manage them all, so he just hires professional managers. When he’s got nothing better to do, he drives ride-hail cars to kill time. All right, just do as I said. I’m hanging up."
Li Changqi: "President Chen, wait a moment. The CEO of Hai City Petrochemical Group, Wang Baoxi..."
Chen Wei cut him off: "I know, he called me. I’ve already handled him. You don’t need to worry about that, just focus on your work."
After hanging up, Li Changqi’s mood stayed stirred up for a long time.
Damn, the boss of an investment company with assets in the tens of billions is actually driving ride-hail cars under him—that’s practically unheard of in history.
Li Changqi hurriedly called the managers of the customer service department, data department, and others, instructing them to handle all of Yang Chen’s ratings and complaints with extra care.
As long as it wasn’t some totally unforgivable fault, they had to rule that Yang Chen bore no responsibility.
As for the passengers, if they really couldn’t accept that, then just directly ban their accounts and let them use other platforms.
In Li Changqi’s view, someone with Yang Chen’s status definitely wouldn’t go out of his way to cause trouble for others. If any dispute really did happen, it was most likely the passenger’s fault.
Losing one troublemaking passenger on the platform is no big deal, but offending the Group’s second-largest shareholder would make it very hard for this Hai City Branch CEO, Li Changqi, to keep his job.
He knew perfectly well how to weigh which side mattered more.
Just as Li Changqi was about to take a short break, he got a call from Zhao Fukan, the vice president of Fukang Valve Company, who had threatened Yang Chen at the bar last night.
Zhao Fukan: "Hello, President Li. I’m Zhao Fukan, vice president of Fukang Valve Company, and my dad is Zhao Liang."
Fukang Valve is fairly well-known in Hai City and even across all of Dragon Country; it’s a bit of a brand name in the valve industry.
So, of course, Li Changqi was well aware of Zhao Fukan’s social standing.
Li Changqi: "Oh, Young Master Zhao. Hello, hello. I wonder what business Young Master Zhao has in calling me?"
Zhao Fukan: "I’d like to ask President Li to help me ban a driver’s account. I really hope you can do me this favor."
Another account ban?
Why are there so many big shots who want drivers’ accounts banned?
Each and every one of them is someone with status—what’s with all this beef with a ride-hail driver?
Li Changqi: "Whose account does Young Master Zhao want to ban? How did he offend you?"
Zhao Fukan: "Let’s add each other as friends; I’ll send you his photo, and we can talk on WeChat."
Li Changqi: "All right. Just add my phone number and we’ll talk on WeChat. I’m hanging up."
