Chapter 167: Face Slap

Hearing Miley’s words, Ni Mengxue was momentarily speechless.

However, Miley interpreted her silence differently.

She assumed that Ni Mengxue had finally become frightened after realizing who she was dealing with.

Crossing her arms, Miley raised her chin smugly. "What? Are you scared now?"

She sneered. "Unfortunately, it’s already too late. I’ll ask the base leader to remove you from your position as an acquisition representative."

Ni Mengxue finally recovered from her disbelief.

She looked at Miley and smiled faintly. "You seem extremely confident that the base leader is pursuing you."

She tilted her head. "But where’s your evidence? What if you’re simply bragging?"

Miley immediately looked offended. "Bragging? Why would I need to brag about something like this?"

Without hesitation, she took out a letter and held it up for everyone to see. "Look at this! It’s an official letter issued by the system!"

She pointed toward the printed text.

"If you examine it carefully, you’ll see that it looks exactly like the letters residents receive when they’re selected for employment."

Her words immediately attracted everyone’s attention. Several people leaned forward to examine the letter.

Ni Mengxue frowned in confusion. ’Since when did the system start issuing letters like this?’

She had never authorized such a feature. ’System, you really deserve a big fuck you.’

Suppressing her irritation, she examined the letter more carefully.

A moment later, she noticed something strange. She pointed toward the bottom of the page.

"There’s no official signature or stamp."

The smug smile on Miley’s face froze. "What?"

She hurriedly lowered the letter and checked it.

Sure enough, although the document contained several lines of formal-looking text, there was no official signature or authentication mark.

The surrounding residents immediately began laughing.

"So Miley was just bragging!"

"She actually expects us to believe the base leader is pursuing her?"

Another person chuckled.

"Come on, let’s be reasonable. There are plenty of beautiful women who have recently arrived at Fair Shallow Land."

"Why would the base leader pursue Miley when she already has more than sixty husbands?"

Hearing that number, Ni Mengxue couldn’t help looking at Miley again.

’Sixty husbands?’

She was genuinely surprised.

’How does she have more than sixty husbands when she hasn’t even brought that many people into the base?’

Fortunately, someone nearby voiced the same question.

"Sixty? Then why have I only seen about ten men accompanying her?"

Another resident immediately explained, "That’s because she doesn’t keep all her husbands in one place."

"She left ten of them behind at Silent Knight Base. Another ten are staying at Burning Star Base, while several others are stationed at different settlements."

The person lowered their voice.

"Miley has connections across multiple bases. Her information network is surprisingly extensive."

Someone else nodded.

"That’s true. If you need information about another base, she’s probably one of the best people to ask."

"Her intelligence network is almost as impressive as those maintained by some established bases."

Ni Mengxue felt a little regretful. ’What a waste of talent.’

Someone capable of maintaining such an extensive network could be extremely useful.

Unfortunately, Miley seemed more interested in showing off her status than making proper use of her abilities.

Meanwhile, Miley refused to admit defeat. "So what if there’s no signature or stamp?"

She raised the letter again. "That doesn’t prove anything!"

She continued confidently, "The base leader probably decided not to sign it because he was worried someone might use my relationship with him to gain special privileges."

She glanced at Ni Mengxue. "After all, there are plenty of people who would try to climb the social ladder through me."

Miley smiled smugly. "Anyway, this letter is genuine!"

Ni Mengxue stared at her. For a moment, she genuinely wanted to slap some sense into the woman.

However, she quickly thought of a better solution.

’Since you insist on using the base leader’s name, I’ll let the base leader answer you personally.’

She opened the system interface and typed a short announcement.

The next second, a notification appeared before every registered resident.

[Official Base Announcement: The leader of Fair Shallow Land is not a man. The base leader has never pursued any resident romantically. Any claims suggesting otherwise are false. Residents are prohibited from using the base leader’s identity or authority to obtain personal benefits.]

The entire area fell silent. Everyone stared at the holographic notification. Then, almost simultaneously, they turned toward Miley.

Some looked amused while others shook their heads with pity.

A few couldn’t suppress their laughter. "So the base leader is actually a woman?"

"Then what was Miley talking about?"

"She really made everything up!"

Miley stood frozen, and her face gradually turned bright red.

In reality, she had always known that the letter was most likely fake.

She had simply enjoyed the attention it brought her.

As long as people believed she had a special relationship with the base leader, they would treat her with greater respect.

She had assumed the base leader wouldn’t notice her little lie.

Even if the truth eventually came out, she believed she would have already gained enough influence to make the deception worthwhile.

However, the official announcement had ruined everything. ’Does the base leader monitor everyone so closely?’

For a moment, Miley felt nervous. Then another thought occurred to her.

’Maybe the base leader has been paying special attention to me.’

She had originally assumed the base leader was a woman.

Now that she knew otherwise, she quickly adjusted her thinking.

’Perhaps he was offended because I used his name without permission.’

But as she considered the situation further, she became strangely excited.

’Then again, why would he personally issue an announcement because of me? Maybe I’ve actually caught his attention.’

If Ni Mengxue had known what was going through Miley’s mind, she might genuinely have lost her patience.

Fortunately, she had no idea and instead, she simply smiled.

"Miss Miley, do you have anything else to say?"

Miley straightened her back. "Not today."

With that, she turned around and walked away proudly, behaving as though nothing embarrassing had happened.

The surrounding residents immediately began whispering behind her back.
