The next second, several new job listings appeared on the large holographic employment kiosk

The crowd immediately became excited.

"New jobs are open!"

"Quick! Check the requirements!"

Multiple hands reached toward the board as residents began selecting positions.

Most of the newly posted jobs were relatively simple.

Some required residents to collect natural wood, while others involved gathering materials such as oil, iron, silver, gold, and various precious stones.

There were also positions for collecting construction materials and other useful resources.

The requirements weren’t particularly complicated, so many residents immediately applied.

Ni Mengxue was equally excited.

Recently, the system had informed her about several functions that would become available once the base reached Level Three.

One of them was an advanced construction feature.

At that level, she would no longer need to provide every individual component required to construct certain buildings or equipment.

Instead, she could submit the necessary raw materials, such as wood, cement, bricks, and metal.

As long as she had enough materials, the system would handle the construction without consuming additional Merit Points.

The prospect was extremely attractive.

After all, Merit Points were one of her most valuable resources.

If she could reduce the amount spent on construction, she would have more points available for other upgrades.

And that wasn’t the only benefit.

The Level Three system would also allow her to manufacture weapons.

She wouldn’t need to understand every complicated manufacturing process.

As long as she possessed a valid printed blueprint and supplied the required materials, the system could produce the finished item.

For example, if a blueprint required iron, wood, and oil, she would only need to place those materials into the designated system slots.

The completed weapon would then be generated according to the blueprint.

’How convenient is that?’

Just thinking about it made Ni Mengxue eager to try.

Unfortunately, the feature would only become available at Level Three.

For now, she had to focus on developing the base and gathering enough resources for the next upgrade.

Although the newly established farmland would eventually produce vegetables, the crops wouldn’t be ready immediately.

Until then, she needed to ensure that the residents had a stable food supply.

That was why she had already taken over one of the newly constructed shops and converted it into a vegetable store.

Before stocking the solar panel shop, she had personally filled the vegetable store with fresh produce.

By the time she finished, she had been exhausted.

However, she hadn’t dared complain.

What annoyed her even more was the system’s attitude.

She had asked it to help restock the vegetables through the system’s trading function.

Who would have thought that the system would charge her twenty Merit Points for the service?

And even after paying that amount, she had discovered that the area she hadn’t finished restocking was restocked but it was less than one third.

When she demanded a refund, she got the usual response. None!

’What a heartless system!’

Ni Mengxue felt irritated just remembering it.

She waved her hand as though trying to brush the unpleasant memory away.

There was no point dwelling on the lost Merit Points.

What mattered now was keeping the vegetable shop running smoothly.

With that thought, she opened the employment interface again.

A moment later, another job listing appeared on the board.

[New Employment Opportunity

Position: Vegetable Shop Attendant.

Workplace: Fair Shallow Land Vegetable Store.

Applications Now Open]

Seeing the new position, several residents immediately gathered around the board.

Ni Mengxue nodded in satisfaction.

At least she wouldn’t have to manage the vegetable shop by herself anymore.

Apart from the vegetable shop, several other employment opportunities had also appeared on the board.

There were vacancies in the canteen, at the reception desk, and in various shops, including the newly established solar panel store.

Another important addition was the collection centre.

This building would serve as the designated location for residents to submit materials gathered through the quests they accepted from the employment board.

Anyone who accepted a collection quest would have to deliver the required items there before receiving their reward.

However, Ni Mengxue soon discovered a serious problem with her previous arrangements.

She had never expected anyone to exploit the loopholes in the system’s quest records.

Initially, she had assumed that residents would complete their assigned tasks honestly.

Even if someone tried to cheat, she believed the system would automatically detect the problem.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

The first group of residents who had discovered Fair Shallow Land by chance had generally followed the rules.

However, the second batch of residents, who had been invited to settle in the base, included several dishonest individuals.

Some had discovered that the system didn’t automatically verify whether the required materials had actually been submitted.

As long as they pressed the quest completion button, the system would mark their tasks as completed and distribute the corresponding rewards.

These people had taken advantage of that loophole repeatedly.

When Ni Mengxue discovered what had happened, her expression immediately darkened.

Without hesitation, she blacklisted everyone who had exploited the system.

However, thinking about the resources she had already lost made her heart ache.

’Those were my resources! And these people accepted rewards without doing anything!’

Just as she was feeling distressed, an angry voice suddenly rang out nearby.

"What kind of nonsense is this?"

Ni Mengxue turned around.

A young man was standing before the employment board, looking extremely frustrated.

"I’ve been trying to accept this quest, but the system keeps rejecting me!"

He pointed toward the holographic screen.

"Does the base leader have something against me?"

The young man was rather short and slender, but his facial features were quite handsome.

He had messy black hair, thick eyebrows, and deep brown eyes. His full lips were currently pushed into an irritated pout.

Several residents nearby immediately recognized him.

One of them sighed. "Sheng Ouling really has terrible luck."

Another nodded.

"Whenever he finds something that could help him earn a stable living, the opportunity somehow slips away."

Hearing the name, Ni Mengxue suddenly paused. ’Sheng Ouling?’
