CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 234: THE BRONZE VALLEY
The transition through the gate was not a smooth landing, but a violent plunge into cold, crushing depths. Caius emerged underwater, surrounded by dark turquoise currents. Looking down into the sea floor, he watched the shattered remnants of an ancient stone gate resting in ruins beneath the waves, covered in barnacles and sea vegetation.
Kicking off the seabed, Caius swam upward, breaking the surface into hot, blinding sunlight. He pulled himself onto a sun-baked, rocky shore framed by jagged limestone cliffs, dry scrubland, and the sharp scent of sea salt and wild thyme.
Standing on the shore, Caius immediately ran a diagnostic on his body and gear. His lightweight obsidian matte armor was undamaged, and the Sabre Lightning Fangs rested securely at his belt. Reaching up to his forehead, his fingers brushed the four black mithril studs embedded in his flesh. The direct neural bridge to his Crown Core was pristine. He could feel the quiet, self-sustaining pulse of all four pocket domains, housing his living forces and supplies without a single spatial rupture. With a subtle flick of thread magic, a pulse of dark energy rippled across his frame, instantly vaporizing the seawater from his clothes, hair, and hooded cloak.
Caius climbed the steep coastal cliff, reaching a dirt path cut into the hills. Pulling out the Veyuun Sect token, the crystal slate projected a faint, shimmering line pointing across the rugged landscape. The next gate was located on the high, snow-capped mountain peak looming beyond the adjacent valley.

As he crossed the high ridge, the distant thrum of iron on bronze, furious war cries, and heavy footsteps echoed across the hills. Caius glided toward a rocky outcrop overlooking the valley below to observe.
Down on the sun-scorched plain, two massive armies clashed in brutal, disciplined combat. They wore heavy bronze-and-iron corselets, crested helmets, and carried massive round shields locked together in tight phalanxes. Pikes shattered, short leaf-bladed swords bit into flesh, and the ground ran red, yet, to Caius's surprise, there were no mages, no spell-castings, and no elemental manifestations. It was a war of raw, physical violence and infantry tactics.
Caius watched the shifting battle lines with a cold, calculating eye.
"The red cloaks are overextending," he murmured softly to himself, recognizing the flaw in their formation. "Their push is slowing. They'll lose momentum in moments and get completely flanked by the whites."
"Ha! Nice observation!" a loud, boisterous voice echoed directly beside his ear.
Caius’s heart didn't skip a beat, but every tactical instinct in his mind roared to life. His spatial threads were active, constantly scanning his immediate perimeter, yet this person had approached within arm's reach without triggering a single sensory vibration. Keeping his breathing steady and his expression entirely composed, Caius slowly turned his head to face the intruder.
Standing nearby was a towering, heavily built man with a thick, rugged beard, holding a crest-adorned helmet tucked comfortably under his arm. Behind him marched a retinue of elite guards, all clad in the exact same heavy bronze-and-iron armor. Striding casually to the cliff's edge, the bearded leader took a position right beside Caius, resting his free hand on the pommel of his sword as he looked down at the bloody spectacle unfolding in the valley below.
