CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 213: VEL'XUL STALKERS
Caius stood alone in the dim, runic silence of his private underground chamber. On the cold basalt floor lay the nine four-eyed stalker carcasses he had harvested from the Abyss.
He raised his gloved hand, calling forth the raw, sovereign pressure of his Crown Core. His Eye of the Loom flared with deep purple brilliance as he hovered his palm above the first carcass. It was time to weave a new breed of vanguard.
Rather than animating the beasts in their original monster forms, Caius re-architected their biological matrices using his Arachne Thread Art. Microscopic spatial threads dissolved dense, animalistic bones, reshaping them into refined humanoid frameworks reinforced with black thread energy. He wove strands of Obsidian Lattice throughout their muscle fibers, turning raw sinew into blade-resistant tissue built for explosive kinetic speed.
At the tips of their elongated fingers, he forged razor-sharp Obsidian Claws out of compressed kinetic obsidian, capable of tearing through enchanted plate armor. For the rear, he retained their lethal Poisoned Tail, a double-edged spatial blade dripping with corrosive shadow-venom, while programming a dormant evolution path into their frames to eventually sprout up to nine tails as they cultivated.
For the heads, he sculpted featureless obsidian masks, void of any nose or mouth, punctuated only by four vertical eye slits arranged in a stark, burning stack. Through these, he granted them a passive Multi-Eye Combat matrix, giving the constructs total spatial awareness and eliminating all blind spots during high-speed combat. From behind these faceless visages, he spun bladed dreadlocks of woven obsidian thread, engineered not only for close-quarters slashing but also to shoot volleys of toxic, poisoned quills at range.
Isolating their native cores inside their chests, Caius carved custom mana pathways mapped directly to human energy points. To complete their command interface, he crafted an artificial essence bead for each construct, embedding it directly into their crown points to forge an unbroken thread link for absolute tethered puppet control, real-time spatial feedback, and shared perception. He then authored an internal cultivation art inspired by House Vel'drin shadow mages and the spatial wolf pack, instilling seamless Shadow Movement that allowed the constructs to slip into ambient shadows, launch multi-angled phantom strikes, and instantly close distance on targets.

With the master blueprint established, Caius worked with lethal efficiency across the remaining carcasses, carving and binding until nine sleek humanoid constructs stood motionless before him.
To complete the process, Caius raised his gauntleted hand and struck the chamber floor. Concentrated black obsidian mana erupted from his core, filling a wide stone basin in the center of the room with a deep pool of swirling, pitch-black liquid energy.
"Step forward," Caius commanded flatly. "Receive your baptism."
The nine puppets moved in perfect unison, stepping down into the shimmering basin. The moment their boots touched the liquid, their newly carved meridians flared to life like thirsty roots. The constructs greedily siphoned the liquid mana, their four vertical eye slits glowing intensely as they drank every single drop from the basin until only dry, scorched stone remained.
The surge of pure energy settled deep within their chest cavities. Their internal cores vibrated with a deep, static hum, solidifying permanently into their new humanoid matrices.
The nine shadow warriors rose from the dry basin, bowing as one with absolute, unquestioning loyalty.
Caius stepped to the edge of the stone platform, looking down at his creation with dark satisfaction. "Forged from abyssal flesh to stalk from the dark in my name," his voice echoed softly against the stone walls. "You are the Vel'xul Stalkers."
The nine constructs bowed lower, the dark violet light behind their four vertical eye slits pulsing once in silent, absolute acknowledgment.
Caius inspected them, his Eye of the Loom narrowing as dark purple light swirled in his pupils. Their physical frames were complete, their pathways established, and their cores stabilized. But theoretical design meant nothing without battlefield execution. He needed to test their reaction speed, spatial coordination, and how fluidly their custom cultivation art interacted with ambient shadows.
A cold, sharp smile touched his lips. He spread his feet slightly, leaving his short swords sheathed at his waist.
"Attack me."
The command hadn't even fully echoed off the stone walls before the nine constructs moved.
In a terrifying display of unified instinct, all nine Vel'xul Stalkers dissolved instantly into the surrounding shadows, their four vertical eye slits leaving streaks of violet light in the dark. The air in the chamber pressure-dropped as razor-sharp spatial threads, poison-coated blade tails, and volleys of obsidian quills erupted from every shadow, converging on Caius from all directions at once.
