CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 200: THE THOUSAND EYES

  • Next Chapter

At the base of the subterranean labyrinth lay the ninth and final chamber, known as the Thousand Eyes Cavern. Deep beneath the bedrock of Cullum's Bastion, the air hummed with a subtle and pervasive static.

This was the command nexus of the realm's hidden network. Spanning out from the central mana crystal, countless micro-threads of dark mana extended into the earth, forming an invisible web that stretched across every surrounding city, town, and village in the domain.

Following the consolidation of the territory, Caius had authorized the deployment of specialized Arachne broods from this very cavern. Larger than a human hand and led by agile, dog-sized commanders, these creatures possessed the lethal precision of master assassins.

Moving entirely beneath the surface, the broods had tunneled silently out from the Bastion, dispersing into the dark soil beneath the settlements. Under the clandestine direction of Old Bones, they became the eyes and ears of the crown.

With a quiet ripple of dark mana, Caius materialized inside the secure chamber. The surrounding walls were forged from solid, spatial-compressed basalt, and only his personal spatial shifting could breach the seal.

Rising from the center of the vast circular hall was a monolithic, dark-purple crystal hub, a massive jagged spire pulsing with thousands of microscopic, thread-like conduits. Every single localized thread link deployed across the domain was wired directly back to this central pillar.

Surrounding the base of the spire sat five humanoid Arachnes. Beneath their pale, elegant torsos, four extra razor-sharp chitinous arms extended from their backs, blurring as they struck the glowing facets of the crystal hub at impossible speeds. Linked by a shared hive mind, the Watchers processed thousands of concurrent thoughts, visual feeds, and spatial coordinates.

From the shadow of the central pillar stepped the Queen Mother Hybrid, the supreme supervisor of the Watchers. Sleek chitinous limbs extended behind her back, flexing rhythmically as her deep obsidian eyes burned with intelligence. She was one of the few permitted to speak to the sovereign verbally.

"My Lord," the Queen Mother said, her voice layered with subtle hive-mind harmonics while her rear limbs independently manipulated data nodes. "The outer trade quarters and the surrounding villages are currently stable. The local patrols are maintaining order without incident."

Caius stepped closer to the crystal hub, his dual-colored pupils reflecting the pulsing purple light. He observed the live data streams flickering across the facets, showing real-time imagery of the streets, markets, and alleyways above.

"Keep a close watch on the trade routes," Caius commanded, his tone low and even. "Any sign of internal unrest or external opportunists must be flagged immediately before it can disrupt our consolidation."

"It shall be done, My Sovereign," the Queen Mother bowed low. Surrounding her, the Watchers continued their lightning-fast keystrokes, feeding endless streams of local intelligence into the realm's deep, invisible brain.
