Chapter 219

Soon, it didn’t take too long for the morning sun to spill gently through the curtains of the master bedroom, casting a warm, golden glow across the quiet room.

Thanks to the bright morning sunlight that fell over his face, thereby disturbing his sweet sweet sleep, Alex slowly opened his eyes, and immediately felt a warm comforting feeling being pressed against his chest.

It was followed soon after by a delicate, intoxicating scent that filled his nostrils. Wondering where and who it was coming from, he looked down and found Celine curled up tightly against his side, with her head resting peacefully against his chest while one of her pale slender arms wrapped tightly around his waist like a sleepy kitten.

Watching her as she breathed evenly while knee deep in sleep, Alex’s mind drifted back to the chaotic events that had all happened the previous night.

After Celine’s friend, Dolan was it? And his men had arrived to drag the unconscious Nico away to his dark and miserable fate, Alex had decided to personally conduct a thorough sweep of Marcus’s entire estate.

He made sure to damn right eliminate every Marcus’s loyalist who refused to yield, while sparing the innocent servants and many low-level subordinates who immediately surrendered after seeing the display of unparalleled power.

He even found the coward of a man who had called for reinforcement. And as for what happened to him? Let’s just say he was in a better place.. in hell, that is.

Okay, so once the grounds were cleaned, he called Doris, since Nyx once said she was good at business, to handle everything that needed to be handled. He tasked her with fully taking over Marcus’s vast criminal empire, seizing his financial assets, and weeding out any remaining hidden loyalists within the city.

Doris had begrudgingly agreed to manage the complex transition, though not without forcing him to promise that he would take her out to a lavish dinner where she could eat to her heart’s content. That girl truly was a foodie, even by Awakened status.

By the time all the loose ends were tied up, the night was nearly over. Seeing how emotionally drained Celine was after finally avenging her little sister, Alex had brought her back to his penthouse.

Then in that quiet, vulnerable moment inside his living room, the usually fierce assassin who killed without a single thought had finally let her walls down, and wept softly as the weight of her grief poured out.

The only thing Alex could do at that time was to simply hold her in his arms, and offer a quiet shoulder to lean on until she eventually fell asleep from the sheer exhaustion. Eventually he too fell asleep without noticing.

Focusing back on the present, Alex stared at the stunning woman lying in his arms like a fragile little kitten. Now that she was fast asleep and not actively glaring at him or throwing fiery insults, he couldn’t help but admire her drop-dead gorgeous features.

He could see as her long, dark lashes rested softly against her pale, flawless skin, and the way her plush pink lips were slightly parted. She was so breathtakingly beautiful that Alex felt he could stare at her for an entire day without ever growing tired of the view.

Maybe because of the way she had looked so delicate right now, he was suddenly driven by a wave of something indescribable. So he leaned down slightly and pressed a gentle, tender kiss onto her forehead.

The second his lips brushed against her skin, Celine’s obsidian eyes snapped wide open!

In a flash of pure reflexes, she scrambled backward across the soft mattress, pulling the silk blanket up to her chest as she glared at him with flushed cheeks.

"What... what do you think you’re doing?!"

Alex casually sat up against the headboard, resting his hands behind his head with an innocent expression.

"Nothing at all."

"Nothing?!" Celine’s eyes narrowed into sharp slits, her cheeks burning a light shade of red. "You were literally just about to take advantage of me while I was fast asleep and you call it nothing! Don’t try to play dumb!"

Alex feigned being offended, and clutched his hand over his chest. "Take advantage of you? Me? How could you accuse a righteous man like me of such a despicable thing? I would never. I was only simply removing a tiny speck of dust from your forehead, that’s all."

Celine let out an incredulous huff.

"Oh, really? Since when does removing a speck of dust from my forehead require you using your lips?!"

"Cough! Cough!" Alex went into a sudden, deliberate coughing fit, quickly clearing his throat to escape the awkward interrogation. He smoothly changed the subject, looking at her with a curious gaze. "Anyway... now that Marcus is dead and your sister’s murder has been settled, you’re finally completely free, right? So what are you planning to do from now on?"

Celine’s defensive stance softened slightly. She pulled her knees up toward her chest, and began staring blankly at the floor as a faint trace of loss flickered across her face.

"Honestly... I have no idea," Celine admitted softly, her voice dropping into a quiet murmur. "For years on end, my entire life revolved around one thing, which was doing various assassination work for Marcus and searching for a way to save my sister. Everything I did was for her. But now that Marcus is dead and she’s gone... I really don’t know what else I’m supposed to do with my life."

Alex looked at her quiet figure and thought carefully for a short moment. A brilliant idea quickly formed in his mind.

"Why don’t you just stay here with me?" Alex suggested casually, leaning back against his pillows. "Since you don’t have anywhere specific to go and no active missions, you can move into here. You can help me look after the place and manage the house. What do you say about that?"

Alex had already considered this matter thoroughly. If Celine lived under the same roof as him, they would naturally spend every single day together, becoming increasingly familiar with one another.

This constant proximity would naturally deepen their bond, vastly increasing the chances of her developing genuine romantic feelings for him.

Furthermore, having a powerful Ascendant Realm Awakened like Celine managing his home meant he wouldn’t have to worry about his private sanctuary whenever he was away handling high-level missions for the Bureau.

Celine sneered, rolling her eyes as she crossed her arms over her towering chest. "Stay here with a shameless pervert like you? Keep dreaming! That is never going to happen in a million years. No that is never going to happen in a billion years."

Alex let out a low, amused laugh, his green eyes sparkling with playful mischief.

"Have you forgotten the deal we made yesterday? Before we went to Marcus’s estate, you explicitly promised that if I helped you kill Marcus and settle your revenge, you would fulfill whatever favor I asked of you no matter what it is."

He paused, a bright smirk curling up his lips. "So now, I’m cashing in on that promise. My request is very simple: I want you to live here with me, help manage the penthouse, and take extra good care of me every single day, like how a girlfriend takes care of her boyfriend."

Celine opened her mouth to shoot down his ridiculous request, but the words caught in her throat. She remembered her exact words from the previous night, and as a proud Awakened, she refused to break a solemn promise.

She stared at Alex’s smug face for several long seconds before letting out a defeated, heavy sigh.

"Fine..." she grumbled reluctantly, glaring at him. "I’ll honor my word and stay here to manage the house. But don’t you dare try anything funny, or I’ll... I’ll make sure your bed have as many holes as a fishing net."

Alex chuckled softly. "It’s a deal then."

Celine adjusted her posture on the bed, her expression turning surprisingly serious as she looked at him with genuine curiosity.

"Now that we’ve settled that..." Celine began, her obsidian eyes locking onto his with an interrogative stare. "There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you since last night. How on earth were you able to effortlessly handle those two Ascendant Realm Awakened brothers all by yourself without taking a single scratch?"

Alex smiled faintly under her intense gaze, leaning back against his pillow without giving away the full secrets of his system.

"Let’s just say I have a few special tricks up my sleeve that go far beyond standard expectations."

Celine narrowed her eyes, studying his calm expression closely. She knew he was hiding something, but she also recognized that every powerful Awakened had their own deep secrets.

"You really are full of mysteries, aren’t you?" Celine murmured, shaking her head as a tiny, almost imperceptible smile tugged at her lips. "Fine, keep your secrets for now. But don’t think you can hide everything from me if we’re living under the same roof."

"I wouldn’t dream of it," Alex replied with a soft laugh, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and standing up. "Now, since you’re officially the lady and manager of this penthouse starting today, how about we start with breakfast? I’m starving."

Celine rolled her eyes, throwing a pillow directly at his back. "I’m not your personal chef, you stinky pervert! Go make it yourself!"

Alex caught the pillow casually behind his back without even looking, letting out a bright laugh as he walked toward the door, leaving Celine sitting on the large bed with her cheeks still burning softly from sleeping in this damned man’s arms.
