Building The First Adventurer Guild In Another World
Chapter 525: Grandmaster Mage
The magical training chamber had remained closed since early morning, and Sage Alistair had no intention of leaving until he understood the peculiar sensation gathering within his Mana Veins.
He sat cross-legged upon the central platform, surrounded by four elemental formations. Fire, Nature, Earth, and Wind Mana circulated through their respective magic circles, each connected to the tremendous reserves contained within his Divine Grade Mana Veins.
For several weeks, Sage had devoted considerable attention to refining his magical abilities. He had improved his spell construction, corrected wasteful habits, and developed a deeper understanding of the four elements under his command.
Now, something was different.
The resistance that had repeatedly prevented his advancement was no longer as firm as before. Each circulation of Mana seemed to weaken it further, and Sage could sense that the threshold separating him from the Grandmaster realm was finally within reach.
He closed his eyes and concentrated.
Mana flowed through his veins with remarkable smoothness. Where he had once struggled to maintain several demanding formations simultaneously, he could now guide the currents without allowing them to interfere with one another.
His breathing remained steady as the four elemental formations began glowing more brightly.
Then the familiar resistance appeared.
Sage didn’t increase the quantity of Mana.
Instead, he carefully adjusted its circulation, bringing the four elemental currents into balance.
For several moments, nothing happened.
Then something within him gave way.
---
A powerful surge of Mana swept through Sage’s body.
His Divine Grade Mana Veins responded immediately, drawing upon the surrounding Mana as the circulation within them accelerated.
The four formations trembled.
Crimson flames rose above the platform, while fragments of stone lifted from the ground. A gentle whirlwind formed around Sage, carrying several green leaves that had emerged from the vines growing along the chamber’s walls.
Despite the sudden activity, none of the elements escaped his control.
Sage remained perfectly still.
He could feel his Mana Veins accommodating the increased flow, their extraordinary foundation supporting a level of circulation he had never previously achieved.
The sensation was unlike anything he had experienced.
His Mana had not simply become greater in quantity.
It had become easier to direct, more responsive to his intentions, and considerably more stable when passing through complicated formations.
The pressure gathering within his body gradually subsided.
The four elemental formations settled into perfect balance.
And Sage opened his eyes.
He had broken through. After weeks of dedicated training, Sage Alistair had finally advanced from a 4-Star Mage to a 5-Star Grandmaster Mage.
---
For several moments, Sage remained seated, staring at the chamber around him.
Something had changed. At first, he couldn’t determine precisely what it was. The stone walls remained unchanged, the practice targets stood where he had left them, and the elemental formations continued hovering quietly around the platform.
Yet the world appeared strangely different.
Sage could feel the Mana flowing through the air.
Not merely sense its presence, as he had done countless times before, but perceive its movement with an astonishing clarity.
The surrounding Mana seemed to drift in countless invisible currents, gathering around the elemental formations and responding to the circulation within his body.
Then Sage activated his Aetheric Eyes.
His breath caught.
The chamber transformed before his vision.
Mana appeared everywhere, filling the air with beautiful streams of light. Crimson traces gathered around the Fire formation, while green radiance flowed through the vines. Earth Mana shimmered within the stone beneath his feet, and pale currents of Wind Mana drifted around the chamber.
The four elements he had spent weeks studying seemed almost alive.
They moved around him with extraordinary grace, their different currents intertwining without losing their individual nature.
Sage slowly raised his hand. He could see how the surrounding Fire Mana responded. With a simple motion of his fingers, he gathered a small portion of it into his palm.
A tiny cluster of flames appeared. No elaborate incantation. No large magic circle. Only his intention, guided by his newly refined control.
Sage stared at the flames in wonder.
"Well," he murmured, smiling slowly, "that’s something."
He turned his palm, watching the flames move with it.
The sensation was surreal.
Previously, even simple spells had required him to consciously gather Mana and guide it through familiar formations. Now, the movement felt almost instinctive, as though his understanding of Fire Magic had become deeply connected to the way he perceived the element itself.
He extended his other hand. A small current of wind gathered around his fingers, circling the flames without extinguishing them.
Sage laughed quietly.
For a moment, he felt as though a single movement of his hand could set an entire forest ablaze.
The thought was exhilarating.
And rather alarming. He possessed enough destructive power that carelessness could have consequences far beyond a damaged training target.
Sage dismissed the flames and wind before allowing his excitement to carry him too far.
"Perhaps setting forests on fire should remain outside my list of accomplishments," he remarked to himself.
He rose from the platform and walked toward the practice targets.
The advancement had granted him a remarkable new awareness of Mana, but he wanted to understand how much his actual spellcasting had improved.
And whether that improvement extended beyond the extraordinary sensations accompanying his breakthrough.
Sage began with Earth Magic. He raised his hand toward a reinforced practice target, gathering Earth Mana into a compact formation.
A stone spear emerged from the ground. The spell formed considerably faster than before, and Sage immediately noticed how little effort was required to maintain its structure.
He directed the spear forward. It struck the target with enough force to crack the reinforced surface.
Sage examined the damage thoughtfully.
The attack had been powerful, but its greatest improvement lay in the precision of its construction.
He had used less Mana than he would have required several weeks earlier.
Next came Wind Magic. A narrow current swept across the chamber, striking several suspended wooden markers without disturbing the surrounding objects.
Sage adjusted its direction repeatedly, discovering that the spell responded almost immediately to his intentions.
Nature Magic followed. Several vines emerged from the prepared soil, extending toward the targets before wrapping around them in carefully controlled patterns.
Finally, Sage summoned a concentrated flame and directed it toward an isolated practice post.
The resulting attack burned through the reinforced timber with remarkable efficiency.
He dismissed the spell before the flames could spread.
The difference was undeniable.
His advancement had improved both his power and his ability to control it.
---
A knock sounded from the chamber entrance.
"Guildmaster?" Iris called from outside. "Are you still training?"
Sage turned toward the door.
"Come in, Iris," he answered, unable to conceal the satisfaction in his voice.
The Water and Earth Mage entered carrying several books, but she stopped almost immediately.
Her eyes widened. "Guildmaster, your Mana..."
Sage smiled. "Something seems to have changed."
Iris stared at him for another moment before her expression brightened. "You advanced!"
"Apparently," Sage replied. "Although I was hoping to make the announcement with considerably more dignity."
Iris laughed softly before approaching. "Congratulations, Guildmaster. You’ve finally reached the Grandmaster realm."
"Thank you," Sage answered sincerely. "Your assistance has been invaluable."
Iris shook her head. "I only helped you examine your spells. You achieved the breakthrough through your own efforts."
Sage considered that before gesturing toward the practice targets. "Then perhaps you’d like to help me discover exactly what those efforts have accomplished."
Iris examined the damaged targets. "Provided you don’t destroy the chamber."
Sage smiled innocently. "I make no promises concerning the furniture."
---
For the next hour, Iris observed Sage’s spellcasting while comparing his new abilities with the records from their previous sessions.
The improvements were considerable.
His formations required less preparation, his Mana responded more smoothly, and maintaining several spells simultaneously had become noticeably easier.
However, Iris also identified limitations.
Although Sage could now construct complicated formations with greater precision, he still required practice when combining powerful spells under changing conditions.
His control had improved, but unfamiliar techniques remained difficult.
And despite his extraordinary Mana reserves, sustaining several demanding Grandmaster-level spells would still place a burden upon his concentration.
"Your advancement hasn’t made every spell effortless," Iris observed after examining another formation.
Sage nodded. "I noticed. The difference is that I can understand and control considerably more than before."
"Exactly," Iris replied. "You’ve reached a higher stage of magical development. That gives you greater possibilities, but mastering them will require continued training."
Sage looked toward the four elemental formations.
He had never expected advancement to make him unbeatable.
The world contained Warriors and Mages far stronger than himself, including individuals whose abilities he had yet to witness.
Nevertheless, reaching the fifth star represented an important achievement.
He was now a Grandmaster Mage.
And that distinction carried considerable meaning.
---
Later that afternoon, Sage returned to his office.
Boren was waiting beside a collection of documents that appeared to have multiplied during the Guildmaster’s absence.
"You’re late," Boren remarked without looking up. "I was beginning to wonder whether you’d decided to move permanently into the training chamber."
Sage approached the desk with an unusually cheerful expression. "An interesting suggestion. Perhaps I should arrange a bed there."
Boren finally looked at him.
He paused and then his eyes narrowed. "Something happened."
Sage smiled. "I’ve become a 5-Star Grandmaster Mage."
For several moments, Boren simply stared.
Then he leaned back in his chair.
"Well," he said slowly, "that explains why you look so pleased with yourself."
Sage chuckled. "Not even a word of congratulations?"
"Congratulations, Guildmaster," Boren replied, although a smile had appeared upon his face. "Now that you’ve accomplished something remarkable, perhaps you can accomplish the equally remarkable task of examining these documents."
Sage looked at the waiting paperwork.
His expression immediately became less enthusiastic. "Somehow, I suspected becoming a Grandmaster wouldn’t protect me from administrative responsibilities."
Boren pushed the first document toward him.
"Unfortunately, Guildmaster, paperwork remains undefeated."
---
That evening, Sage stood beside the window of his private chambers, watching the lights of the Royal Capital spread across the distant streets.
His advancement had changed the way he perceived Mana.
Even without activating his Aetheric Eyes, he could sense its movement with a clarity that had previously been impossible.
When he did activate them, the world revealed an extraordinary beauty hidden beneath its ordinary appearance.
The elements surrounded him everywhere.
Fire, Nature, Earth, and Wind responded more readily to his intentions, offering possibilities he had only begun to explore.
Sage raised his hand, allowing a small flame to dance above his palm.
He smiled. The Adventurer Guild continued expanding, Greyfen remained filled with dangerous mysteries, and powerful enemies were still searching for ways to undermine everything he had built.
His new strength would not solve those problems automatically.
But it would allow him to confront increasingly dangerous challenges with greater confidence.
Sage closed his fingers, extinguishing the flame.
He had finally reached the Grandmaster realm.
And his journey as a Mage was far from over.
