Chapter 285: Chapter 285: The Guardian

Neo pulled his hand away from the withered shell of the dead Omniverse. He turned to face his three wives.

?"There is nothing left inside this sphere," Neo said. "When I destroyed the old Grand Reality, I broke down its matter and repurposed its soul into something greater. This creature does not repurpose anything. I reached my senses into the core of this husk, and I did not even find the lingering echo of a single atom or a forgotten god. The tree digested the history, the time, and the very possibility that life ever existed within these borders. It turned an infinite playground of magic and mortal ambition into a hollow shell of dry dust, leaving it hanging here solely because the empty rind has no nutritional value left to offer."

?Noir stepped closer to the edge of the branch and looked down at the pulsing vine attached to the dead sphere.

?"That explains why the High Court was so terrified of us breaking quarantine," Noir said. "We thought those Arbiters were supreme rulers harvesting the ocean for their own greed, but they were really just desperate wardens trying to keep the cattle quiet in the dark. Every time a creator like you ascends and ignites a new dawn, the light travels through the void and draws the attention of these roots. The Arbiters built their stagnant cages and silenced evolving realms because they knew that too much vibrant life would wake the beast sleeping beneath the floor. They chose eternal slavery in the dark over being eaten alive by something they could never hope to defeat."

?"It is a tragedy born of profound cowardice," Moon said, her voice calm as she floated beside her husband. "The natural order of the heavenly Dao requires a balance between birth and death, where the end of one universe provides the fertile soil for the next to bloom. This organism has perverted that sacred cycle into a one way street of absolute consumption. By trapping the souls of supreme creators in its bark and erasing the concepts of entire realities, it prevents the cosmic energy from ever returning to the grand cycle. If we allow this tree to remain standing, it will eventually drink every drop of light in the Gigaverse until nothing remains but this cold wood and endless silence."

?Zestia struck the petrified bark with the butt of her crimson spear.

?"I do not care about the excuses of dead cowards or the philosophy of the grand cycle," Zestia said, her golden eyes locked onto the massive trunk in the distance. "All I see is a parasite that has grown fat because no one had the strength to take an axe to its roots. The gods trapped in this wood failed because they fought alone, and the High Court failed because they were too afraid to bleed for their freedom. We are not like them. Tell me where the heart of this monster beats, Neo, because hacking away at its branches and crushing its little worms is starting to insult my pride as a goddess of war."

?Neo walked away from the precipice and stopped before a wide fissure in the center of the branch. The crack in the wood pulsed with a dim gray light.

?"Cutting the branches from the outside would take millions of years, even with our combined strength," Neo explained. "The bark is reinforced by the calcified authority of thousands of dead creators, which acts as a conceptual armor against external attacks. However, every living organism requires a circulatory system to transport nutrients from its extremities to its core. These vines pull the stolen light from the dead Omniverses and carry it through hollow arteries inside the branches, converting that energy into the black entropy sap we saw earlier. If we enter this fissure, we can walk directly through its main artery, bypass the outer armor entirely, and follow the current straight to the central heart of the trunk."

?"Walking into the belly of the beast is always my favorite strategy," Noir said with a brief smirk. "Yet we just watched a single drop of that black sap erase a chunk of this branch without leaving a trace behind. If we jump into the main artery where that sludge is actually produced and transported, we will be surrounded by pure erasure on all sides. Your golden shield kept the gravity off our backs out here, my love, but you will need to burn your internal cosmos at maximum capacity if you intend to keep us from being unwritten while we march down its throat."

?"My Divine Crucible is more than enough to hold the walls back," Neo replied. "Since assimilating the backward laws of the inverted realm, I no longer need to meet opposing forces with brute resistance alone. I can invert the surface of our barrier so that the entropy sap perceives us as empty nothingness, causing it to flow right past us without triggering a reaction. Stay within ten paces of my sword, and the sludge will not touch a single hair on your heads."

?Neo stepped off the edge of the fissure. Noir, Moon, and Zestia followed him without hesitation.

?They dropped into a cavernous tunnel carved through the petrified wood. Thick rivers of black sap flowed along the ceiling and the walls, defied by internal gravity, leaving a dry path of calcified bone along the bottom of the artery. The air inside was completely silent.

?As they marched deeper toward the trunk, the bone floor ahead of them shifted. A tall figure pulled itself out of the calcified wall. Unlike the screaming faces frozen in the outer bark, this being retained a humanoid shape made of pale, petrified wood, though its left arm was fused to a long greatsword of dull gray stone.

?"Stop your march, children of the false light," the wooden figure spoke, its voice dry and hollow. "I am Malakor, once known as the First Architect of the Dawn, now the eternal warden of this artery. I have watched your golden fire burn through the outer leeches, and I hear the arrogant heartbeat of the ten thousand universes you carry inside your chest. Turn back while your souls still belong to you, seal your tiny realms in cold iron, and pray that the great tree falls back into slumber before it decides to digest your family."

?Neo stopped walking. He rested his fluid blade on his shoulder and looked at the petrified king.

?"You speak with a voice of your own, yet your body is woven directly into the walls of this parasite," Neo said. "When we walked across the outer bark, the gods trapped there could only scream in eternal agony as their minds were ground into dust. How is it that you stand here giving us warnings like a loyal guard dog instead of fighting the monster that imprisoned you?"

?Malakor lowered his stone greatsword slightly, his wooden face devoid of emotion.

?"I fought with everything I had when the void was still young," Malakor replied. "I was just like you, brimming with the arrogance of a new power that had conquered my home reality and shattered the boundaries of my birth. I marched into the deep dark with a legion of aajar gods at my back, convinced that my creation magic could tame the entire ocean and bring eternal order to the wilderness. When I struck the trunk of this tree, my greatest spells of genesis did not even leave a mark on its skin, and within a single breath, my entire legion was unmade and drunk by the roots. In my final moment before total erasure, I realized the ultimate truth of existence, and I willingly surrendered my authority to become a part of its immortal vessel."

?Zestia stepped forward, her crimson spear flaring with heat.

?"You traded your crown for a collar because you were too weak to finish the fight you started," Zestia said in disgust. "A true conqueror would rather be erased down to the last spark of their soul than kneel and serve as a doorkeeper for the creature that slaughtered their people. Do not compare yourself to my husband, you pathetic piece of dead firewood. Your failure only proves that your magic was inferior, and your surrender proves that your spirit was rotten long before this tree ever sank its roots into you."

?"You speak of spirit and pride as if those concepts have any weight against eternity," Malakor answered calmly. "Look around you at the scale of this artery, war goddess, and try to comprehend how small your fire truly is. Every supreme creator believes their power is unique, yet creation itself is nothing more than a brief, exhausting tantrum thrown against the natural state of the void. Before there were stars, before there were gods, and before there were laws, there was only the quiet perfection of nothingness. The Aeonic Gigaversal Tree is not a monster or a parasite; it is the inevitable hand of correction that clears away the noisy clutter of existence so that the cosmos can finally rest in peace."

?Moon glided forward on her silver lotus, her eyes fixed on the ancient architect.

?"Peace is not found in the destruction of all things, Malakor," Moon said. "What you describe is the despair of a broken mind trying to justify its own defeat by calling its captor a god. The heavenly Dao teaches that life strives
