Chapter 269: Chapter 269: Battle

The Whispering Wastes shook violently as twenty Paradox Weavers skittered across the silver dunes. These were not mere monsters. They were glitches in reality, moving with a chaotic stutter that made tracking them impossible for ordinary mortals. But the three veterans following Neo were not ordinary mortals. They were the apex of the Vanguard Citadel.

Kael led the charge. The colossal tank roared, a sound that carried the weight of eight hundred levels of pure physical endurance. He slammed the flat of his broadsword against his massive tower shield.

Buzzz!

A shockwave of deep crimson aura erupted from the impact. This was his supreme taunt skill, the Grand Inquisitor Call. The skill forced every hostile entity within a three mile radius to perceive Kael as the ultimate threat.

The twenty gray spiders instantly snapped their terrifying, glitching faces toward Kael. They abandoned all other pathing algorithms and converged on the armored behemoth.

"They are clustered!" Kael shouted over the deafening hum of the anti logic field. He braced his legs, digging his heavy boots deep into the silver sand, preparing to take the impact of twenty invincible horrors.

Jax did not wait for the dust to settle. The Shadow Dancer dissolved into a cloud of dark purple mist. He reappeared directly above the swarming spiders. His hands moved in a blur of deadly precision. He threw a fan of forty poisoned daggers, aiming specifically for the myriad of gray, static filled optical sensors on the creatures.

"Optical disruption successful!" Jax called out, landing softly on the peak of a nearby dune. "Their targeting parameters are blinded!"

Lyra stood completely still, her eyes glowing with radiant golden light. She pointed her staff directly at Neo. She channeled every single ounce of her mana into a single, concentrated buff.

"Chronos Acceleration!" Lyra chanted. "Maximum output!"

A pillar of blinding haste magic enveloped Neo. For a normal player, this buff would double their movement speed and cut their cooldown timers in half.

For Neo, it simply removed the artificial speed limit he had placed on his own avatar.

Neo stepped forward. The legendary Sunbreaker Blade in his hand thrummed with overwhelming power. He looked at the cluster of twenty elite anomalies rushing toward Kael.

"Let us see the polygon count on this weapon," Neo whispered.

He swung the sword.

It was a horizontal cleave. He did not aim at the spiders. He aimed at the foundational geometry of the desert itself. The Sunbreaker Blade unleashed a crescent wave of condensed starlight that stretched for half a mile. The golden energy did not simply cut through the air. It severed the localized physics engine.

The crescent wave struck the cluster of Paradox Weavers. There was no explosion. There was no sound of tearing flesh or breaking carapace. The wave of starlight simply passed through them, overwriting their chaotic gray static with pure, unadulterated system code.

For exactly one second, the twenty massive spiders froze completely solid. Then, they shattered into billions of golden experience orbs.

The sheer volume of experience generated by the simultaneous deletion of twenty elite anomalies caused the sky to briefly flicker. Kael, Lyra, and Jax were instantly hit with another torrential downpour of level up notifications. Their health pools expanded. Their mana reserves deepened.

But the celebration was cut incredibly short.

The main fissure in the center of the distortion ripped completely open. The sky tore apart like cheap parchment. The temperature dropped to absolute zero. The silver sand beneath their feet turned a dead, ashen black.

A creature emerged from the rift. It was a localized raid boss, a concentrated avatar of the Supreme Curse. It did not have a defined shape. It was a towering, shifting monolith of geometric impossibilities. It was a physical manifestation of a fatal system error.

Above the monolith, a corrupted health bar appeared. It was entirely black, absorbing all the light around it.

[Warning. Localized Raid Boss engaged. Designation: Nullifier.]

The Nullifier did not attack with claws or spells. It simply pulsed.

A shockwave of absolute gray nothingness washed over the desert. This was a Reality Deletion Domain. The moment the wave hit Kael, Jax, and Lyra, they collapsed to their knees.

Kael dropped his shield. His golden armor began to rust and flake away into gray ash. Jax grasped his throat, gasping for air that no longer existed in his lungs. Lyra watched in absolute horror as the golden light of her staff turned a sickening, putrid gray.

Their health bars did not decrease. They froze. A terrifying new status ailment appeared in their vision.

[Error: Existence Not Found. Deletion in five seconds.]

"My connection," Lyra choked out, her voice barely a whisper. "I cannot feel the mana. The system is gone."

The Nullifier was overriding their local connection to the Aethelgard server. It was cutting them off from the Dominator Core. Without the system to validate their existence, their digital souls were unraveling into nothingness.

Neo stood completely unaffected within the gray domain. The reality deletion wave washed over him and dissipated instantly, unable to compute the density of his administrative authority.

He looked at his party. They were dying. The external virus was bypassing their stats and attacking their fundamental user privileges.

"They are trying to delete my players. That is a violation of the terms of service."

Neo walked over to Kael. He placed his bare hand directly onto the rusted, decaying metal of the Vanguard’s shoulder.

"Your user permissions are too low to resist a direct code overwrite," Neo stated calmly. "I will need to grant you temporary administrative access. Brace yourselves. The download speed might cause a slight headache."

Neo did not cast a spell. He executed a direct command prompt into the fabric of reality.

Golden code erupted from Neo’s palm. It flooded into Kael’s avatar like a tidal wave of pure sunlight. The gray ash instantly burned away. Kael roared toward the sky as his physical form expanded. His armor reformed, changing from mundane gold to an ethereal, translucent white energy.

[Administrator Privilege Granted. Temporary Class Evolution: Aegis of the Core.]

Neo turned and pointed his fingers at Jax and Lyra. Twin beams of localized system code shot from his fingertips, piercing directly into their chests.

Jax felt the gray static instantly purge from his veins. His vision exploded with new colors. He could suddenly see the raw, underlying binary code of the desert, the monsters, and the sky. His daggers transformed into twin spikes of pure white light.

[Administrator Privilege Granted. Temporary Class Evolution: Source Code Executioner.]

Lyra levitated off the ground. The corrupted gray mana surrounding her shattered like fragile glass. Her wooden staff dissolved, replaced by a floating golden halo of pure mathematical equations. She no longer needed to borrow power from the gods. She was tapped directly into the server’s mainframe.

[Administrator Privilege Granted. Temporary Class Evolution: Reality Architect.]

The Nullifier sensed the sudden spike in administrative authority. The massive monolith violently shifted its geometry, focusing its entire destructive output on the three newly ascended mortals. It unleashed a torrent of corrupted paradox beams, each one capable of erasing a continent.

"Block it, Tank," Neo ordered.

Kael stepped forward. He did not raise his tower shield. He simply held out his empty left hand.

"Access Denied," Kael commanded. His voice echoed with the weight of a system firewall.

A hexagonal barrier of pure white light materialized in front of him. The paradox beams struck the barrier and instantly fizzled into harmless sparks. Kael had not just blocked the attack. He had revoked the attack’s permission to exist within his defensive radius.

"Assassin," Neo said. "Cut its connection to the server."

Jax vanished. He did not use stealth. He simply stepped outside the rendering distance of the local physics engine. He reappeared directly behind the towering monolith. He plunged his twin spikes of white light into the creature’s core.

Jax did not deal kinetic damage. He dealt a direct system strike.

"Syntax Error," Jax whispered.

The Nullifier shrieked. A sound like grinding metal echoed across the desert as its corrupted health bar suddenly cracked. Jax had severed the creature’s ability to pull processing power from the external developers.

"Cleric," Neo smiled. "Format the hard drive."

Lyra opened her eyes. They were completely gold. She raised both hands toward the sky, her halo of equations spinning furiously.

"Restoring system backup," Lyra chanted. "Execute."

A shockwave.

The wave swept across the localized domain, completely washing away the gray static. The silver dunes returned. The sky shifted back to its beautiful, static blue canopy. The Reality Deletion Domain was instantly overwritten by the foundational laws of Aethelgard.

The Nullifier was now totally exposed, severed from its external power source and trapped within a fully functioning physics engine. It shuddered, its geometry collapsing inward as it tried to process its own vulnerability.

Neo stepped forward, raising the Sunbreaker Blade. The sword hummed with glorious, blinding light, eager to deliver the final judgment.

"You invaded my home, You attempted to delete my players. Now, you will serve as their progression milestones."

Neo swung the blade downward. Kael held the creature in place with his firewall. Jax kept its connection severed. Lyra locked the surrounding reality to prevent its escape.

The blade of condensed starlight struck the center of the Nullifier.

The explosion was absolutely spectacular. A pillar of golden experience shot straight into the atmosphere, piercing the clouds and illuminating the entire Whispering Wastes. The raid boss was not just defeated. It was fundamentally deconstructed into raw, usable progression data.

Kael, Jax, and Lyra were bathed in the golden light. The temporary administrative privileges slowly faded, returning them to their normal user status, but the experience points remained.

The three veterans stood in the center of the massive crater. They opened their status screens. The glowing blue text confirmed the impossible reality of what had just occurred. They had surpassed the legendary level nine hundred barrier. They were entering the realm of demigods, all thanks to a single combat encounter with a level one beginner.

They slowly turned their heads to look at Neo.

The man was resting the legendary sword on his shoulder, happily inspecting a small piece of glowing loot that had dropped from the boss.

Kael dropped to one knee. Jax immediately followed. Lyra bowed her head in absolute reverence.

They finally understood exactly who had joined their party.
