Chapter 81: Chapter 68: Building the Hero Altar, Digesting the Rewards

The base of a statue appeared on the ground before him, completely enveloped in blue light.

Gazing at his instantly depleted resources, Shen Xing took a deep breath to suppress his heartache and proceeded to examine the next treasure.

A flash of light later, an ancient piece of parchment appeared in his hand. Painted on it was the outline of a Blue Arrow Tower.

[Ice Arrow Tower]

[Level: 2]

[Effect: Can upgrade a Level 1 Arrow Tower in the territory to a Level 2 Ice Arrow Tower. Deals massive damage to Tier One monsters and applies a 25%~35% slowing effect.]

[Shooting Speed: 1.5s/shot]

[Land Area: 28 square meters]

[Height: 16 meters]

[Upgrade Materials: Wood*200, Stone*200, Soul Stone*20, Frost Crystal*5]

...

’This is great. Not only does it do more damage than a Level 1 Arrow Tower, but it also has a slowing effect.’

After upgrading the Campfire to Level 2, Shen Xing had unlocked the Arrow Tower, a basic structure.

According to forum posts, upgrading the Campfire to a Large Campfire would also unlock the Level 3 Arrow Tower, drastically increasing its power and shooting speed.

It could be further upgraded to Level 4 and Level 5, continuously increasing its power.

Of course, these standard Arrow Towers were too one-dimensional.

Players could learn special blueprints to unlock alternative upgrade paths.

For example, there were Poison Arrow Towers that could shoot poisoned arrows, Magnetic Ring Towers that could release electromagnetic coils, and Dragon Breath Towers that could unleash Flame Breath.

The Ice Arrow Tower was one of them.

’I remember Xia Wanyin has two Frost Crystal Towers near her territory. They can continuously produce Frost Crystals.’

’I’ll trade with her for some later and build a few Ice Arrow Towers.’

With this in mind, Shen Xing learned the blueprint and moved on to the next one.

[Tripwire Trap Blueprint]

[Quality: Green (Fine)]

[Effect: Can be used to craft concealable Tripwires. When an enemy passes by, it will instantly trigger, tripping them and inflicting the ’Crippled’ effect.]

[Crafting Cost (per meter): Black Iron*2 + Soul Stone*1]

(Note: Listen up, pal. I’m gonna make you take a nasty spill and eat dirt.)

...

’A pretty good trap blueprint, but the material cost is a bit high.’

’Still, with my current resources, I can probably craft a few hundred meters of it.’

Shen Xing learned this blueprint as well, then turned to his other spoils.

This time, it was the greatsword with a wide hilt and blade that emanated a dark aura.

[Demon Shadow Sword]

[Quality: Purple (Rare)]

[Equipment Level: 9]

[Equipment Attributes: Agility +15, Attack Speed +30%]

[Equipment Effect: Shadowy Darkness (On a basic attack, there is a 35% chance to trigger ’Demon Shadow Sword Qi’, dealing full damage to enemies in its path.)]

(Note: Who needs to try hard when your back-dash leaves a scar?)

...

’A basic attack can release Sword Qi? Sounds pretty cool.’

’Too bad I don’t have any sword-wielding Soldier Types in my territory right now.’

Shen Xing pondered for a moment before another thought struck him. ’Then again, surely someone among the Black Moon Knights can use it?’

After all, the weapon had dropped from a Black Moon Knight Captain, and he just so happened to have 16 Black Moon Knight Recruitment Scrolls in his inventory.

He took out the scrolls and glanced at their attributes. His eyes lit up.

’Huh? These Knights are all Elite★ Soldier Types, and their starting Level is 5.’

’That’s great. I won’t need to have them slowly absorb Soul Stones to level up.’

’In that case, I’ll summon them all.’

With a grand wave of his hand, the 16 scrolls flew into the air, dissolving into motes of light.

HUMMM...

Hexagram Arrays materialized in the air, one after another. Thick black fog billowed from them, settling onto the ground.

Tall figures could be seen faintly through the black fog.

NEIGH—!

When the black fog dissipated, 16 figures slowly emerged. They were clad in black armor, carrying jet-black longswords and longspears, and mounted on black warhorses.

They all turned their heads in unison. From beneath their faceplates, pairs of eerie green eyes stared down at the figure in the wheelchair.

Shen Xing could feel their imposing aura and the almost tangible pressure they exuded.

But he remained unflinching, meeting the Knights’ gazes with calm.

It was a peculiar scene: a young man in a wheelchair facing off against sixteen fully-armed Black Knights.

But strangely, though the young man looked frail, he wore a confident smile.

Nearby, Hellish Roar and Blood Roar tightened their grips on their war axes, their yellow, bestial eyes locked on the Knights.

If the newcomers made the slightest move, the two Beastmen would attack without hesitation.

After a tense moment, the Black Moon Knights dismounted in unison.

They formed neat ranks and gave a standard Knight’s salute to the young man in the wheelchair.

It was a declaration of the Knight Order’s fealty.

In truth, they had no choice but to submit.

In the Land of Mist, Soldier Types summoned via Recruitment Scrolls were incapable of resisting their Lord.

A recruited creature that tried to attack its Lord would be punished by a mysterious force.

Furthermore, if a Lord was unsatisfied with his recruited Soldier Types, he couldn’t kill them with a mere thought, but he could expel them from his territory.

Expelled Soldier Types would lose the protection of the Campfire and be quickly devoured by the Fog.

Dahou, the Warg, was a beast with little intelligence and had foolishly snarled at Shen Xing at first.

But these Black Moon Knights were not so foolish.

Of course, to win their complete loyalty, a Lord would have to demonstrate sufficient strength.
