Chapter 231: Chapter 150: Recruiting Kodo Beasts, Thriving
The merchant, Weston, was awestruck by the sheer scale of the territory. He gazed at the buildings, exclaiming in amazement from time to time.
Shen Xing gave a modest smile. "Mr. Weston, you’ve had a long and arduous journey and were even attacked by the Skinners. You must be exhausted."
"I’ll have someone take you to the territory’s hot springs for a soak to relax."
After a pause, he added, "As for those Skinners, I will take care of it."
Upon hearing this, Weston’s eyes filled with gratitude. "Then I must trouble you, Lord Shen Xing. I will never forget your kindness!"
Shen Xing smiled and nodded. He then summoned Monday and had the slave captain lead Weston to the Outer City District to soak in the hot springs.
"Shen Xing, I’m going to head back now, too."
Xia Wanyin said softly, "Perfect timing, I got two pieces of Black Spirit Wood this time. I can continue upgrading the Large Campfire once I get back."
Shen Xing nodded. "Go on, then. If you run into any trouble on the way, remember to contact me immediately."
"Okay."
The girl in the white dress agreed, then led her squad of Light Elves away from the territory.
After watching her figure disappear into the dense fog, Shen Xing had Reina push him over to the Campfire at the center of the territory.
He opened the building interface and initiated the upgrade.
[Consume Materials (Soul Stone x3000, Vinar Silver Coins x3000, Black Crystal x300, Black Spirit Wood x1) to upgrade the Large Campfire to Level 4?]
"Yes."
[Upgrade in progress. Estimated time: 23 hours, 53 minutes...]
The roaring Campfire was once again enveloped in white light, and the stones at its base began to rapidly reassemble.
Next, Shen Xing opened his inventory and took out five scrolls made from ancient beast hide.
[Use Kodo Beast Recruitment Scroll to recruit Level 5 Kodo Beast (Elite★★★) x5?]
"Yes."
The scrolls automatically flew into mid-air, dissolving into countless specks of light.
Immediately after, these specks of light automatically converged, forming Hexagram Arrays, each over five meters in diameter, which cast down thick pillars of light.
Within the searing white light, the faint outlines of several massive figures could be seen slowly emerging.
"SNORT—"
The heavy snorting sounded like muffled thunder. The foul stench of a wild beast washed over him, strong enough to rustle his hair.
Immediately after, five behemoths, as burly as African elephants with shoulder heights exceeding three meters, slowly walked out of the arrays.
Their bodies were covered in thick, dark-gray leather. Their massive limbs resembled moving stone pillars, and a forked, sharp horn grew from the tip of each snout.
These were the Kodo Beasts.
’Damn, now that’s what I call a prominent feature.’
Shen Xing couldn’t help but remark to himself as he stared at the sharp horn on their snouts, which looked just like a pitchfork.
"MOOO..."
The few behemoths let out low, drawn-out calls, tilting their heads to survey their surroundings with the confusion of new life in their eyes.
Shen Xing opened their panels and glanced at their Attributes.
[Kodo Beast]
[Level: 5]
[Potential: Elite★★★]
[Attributes: Power 48, Spirit 36, Agility 21, Constitution 52]
[Skills: Barbaric Horn Impact (Lowers its head to charge, dealing piercing damage to a single target and sending it flying.)
Tough Body (Reduces Physical Damage taken by 20% and is not easily knocked down or knocked back.)
Devouring (Opens its massive mouth to swallow an enemy unit smaller than itself, slowly digesting it in its stomach to deal continuous damage and restore its own health.
If hit by a Heavy Strike during digestion, it may spit the target back out.)]
[Talent: Heavy Load Transport (Carrying capacity is 3 times that of a creature of the same size, and movement speed does not decrease while encumbered.)]
[Bonds: Kodo Beast (Inactive)]
[Talent: 8+10 (Excellent)]
(Note: A docile but slow-reacting behemoth that requires patient training to realize its true battlefield value.)
...
’Devouring enemies, plus that incredible carrying capacity... these Kodo Beasts are really something else!’
A slight smile touched Shen Xing’s lips as he gazed at the skill descriptions.
He also noticed the note at the end, stating that the Kodo Beasts required training to understand commands.
So, he called out toward the Outer City District, "Kael, come here a moment."
Soon, a middle-aged man in leather armor with a whip at his waist strode quickly toward him.
This was Kael, the Beast Tamer who had just been recruited into the territory yesterday.
The Beast Tamer immediately spotted the five behemoths in front of the Lord. A flicker of shock crossed his face, but he quickly composed himself.
"My Lord, you... you summoned me..." Kael walked before Shen Xing and bowed his head respectfully.
He seemed a little anxious, not knowing why the Lord had suddenly summoned him.
’Could he have found out about last night’s conversation? Is he going to punish me?’
The thought made Kael even more nervous.
However, Shen Xing didn’t ask about any other matters and got straight to the point. "Can you train these Kodo Beasts? Mainly, teach them to understand various commands, like ’charge,’ ’advance,’ ’devour,’ and things like that."
Kael breathed a silent sigh of relief.
After a pause, he replied solemnly, "Back when I was in Videng Royal City, I studied how to tame and raise Kodo Beasts. Training them shouldn’t be too difficult."
"However..." He seemed to recall something and asked tentatively, "My Lord, does our territory happen to have a type of mobile cannon platform?"
Shen Xing thought for a moment. "You mean the Demon Flame Cannon Platforms? We have a few. Why do you ask?"
Kael replied respectfully, "I’ve read in books that during times of war, the great clans would specially raise groups of adult Kodo Beasts and build small defensive watchtowers on their backs."
