Chapter 153: Chapter 114: Artillery Genius, the Power of the Tier Two Turret
[Ding! Your Level 3 Flame Arrow Tower has been successfully upgraded!]
[Ding! Your Level 2 Ice Arrow Tower has been successfully upgraded!]
[Ding...]
As soon as Shen Xing logged on, a stream of notifications scrolled across his vision once more.
The territory had undergone considerable changes again today.
Right now, in the area a hundred meters from the Campfire, 35 Arrow Towers stood tall, surrounding the first city wall.
Among them were eight Level 3 Flame Arrow Towers, eight Level 2 Ice Arrow Towers, and the rest were all Level 2 regular Arrow Towers.
Further out, in the area five hundred meters from the Campfire, many more buildings had appeared.
The number of Arrow Towers had skyrocketed from thirty-two to fifty-four.
Among them were also 8 lighthouses and 8 watchtowers.
Although this outer ring was all Level 1 Arrow Towers, their strength was in their numbers.
Besides, the inner ring of Arrow Towers had a very long range—1,000 meters at a minimum—which could completely cover the entire territory.
’Now, just by relying on these dozens of Arrow Towers, I can pose a fatal threat to Extraordinary Level monsters.’
’But after such a massive wave of upgrades, my Soul Stone reserves have dwindled again. I have less than three thousand left.’
’I need to make the Soldier Types work harder. Otherwise, when will I ever be able to build a second city wall or live in a grand castle?’
Shen Xing thought to himself, ready to send the Soldier Types out to begin a new day of hard work.
Just then, the one-eyed Blacksmith emerged from the Blacksmith Shop and strode quickly toward Shen Xing.
"Oh! Lord, you’re looking splendid today! So fair and clean."
Logan hadn’t even arrived yet, but his booming voice preceded him. "I’d bet that look of yours would be a big hit with those noble ladies in the city."
"They’d put you in a little dress, tie a bow on you, and doll you up all pretty."
"And they’d take you to all sorts of balls, just like... just like showing off a pet."
Shen Xing looked up and said irritably, "Next time you greet me, you can stop after the first sentence. The rest of that nonsense is unnecessary."
"If you have something to say, just say it."
"Hahaha, I do, in fact." Logan scratched his long, center-parted hair. "That big toy you had me build yesterday? I’ve finished one."
"Oh?" Shen Xing’s eyes lit up slightly. "So soon?"
The "big toy" Logan mentioned was the Demon Flame Cannon Platform.
He had thought that a cannon platform capable of dealing fatal damage to Extraordinary Level creatures would take a long time to build.
He hadn’t expected the guy to finish one in a single day. His efficiency was quite high.
"Roll it out. Let me see," Shen Xing said in anticipation.
"No problem!"
Logan quickly turned and ducked back into the Blacksmith Shop.
RUMBLE...
A faint tremor ran through the ground.
Immediately after, a cannon platform, dark red all over and two and a half meters tall, was pushed out.
The platform had a rather retro design, with a massive barrel in the middle, wheels on both sides, and a steering mechanism.
But from the flame patterns on the barrel and the forty-to-fifty-centimeter-diameter muzzle, it was clear this thing’s power was absolutely terrifying.
"Can we test its power?" Shen Xing asked.
"Oh, of course!" Logan said. "But I suggest you find a more open space. You wouldn’t want your own house to be flattened, would you?"
Shen Xing nodded, then called over a few Beastmen. Working together, they carried the cannon platform up onto the city wall along the stone-paved road.
From their high vantage point, they now looked down upon the black earth before them.
Just then, a red dot suddenly appeared on the mini-map. The lighthouses had spotted an approaching enemy.
However, the enemy appeared to the west, while they were currently in the south.
"Quick, push the cannon over there," Shen Xing commanded from his wheelchair.
The Beastmen immediately put their backs into it, pushing the cannon platform over at top speed.
By the time Shen Xing arrived at the South City District, he saw the enemy was less than eight hundred meters from the territory.
Beams of light from two lighthouses were locked firmly on the monsters’ figures, clearly illuminating their silhouettes.
Aside from some Slender Ghost Shadows and Walking Dead writhing on the ground...
...there was our old pal, comrade Evil Eye.
Shen Xing gazed at the enormous eyeball and licked his lips. ’Excellent. I’ll use you to test the power of this thing.’
He took out a Large Soul Stone from his inventory, wincing at the cost as he placed it into the energy core at the base of the cannon platform.
Then he adjusted the muzzle and slammed the activation button.
HUM...
The barrel began to tremble violently. The surrounding air rushed toward the muzzle as if gathering for some terrifying attack.
Just two seconds later.
BOOM!!!
A huge Flame Bomb erupted from the red-hot barrel, streaking across the sky with a fiery tail and shaking the city wall so hard that a crack appeared.
Under everyone’s expectant gazes, the shell plunged into the Fog, grazed the top of the Evil Eye’s head, and slammed viciously into the ground.
A pillar of fire shot into the sky, dispersing dozens of meters of Fog and vaporizing a large number of Walking Dead.
The terrifying power even caused the Evil Eye to pause for a moment.
However, the shot seemed to be a bit off-target.
Other than some flying debris scratching a few shallow marks on the Evil Eye, it didn’t cause any real damage.
It continued to float forward, drawing ever closer to the territory.
"Oh! Lord, your aim is truly awful," Logan said, holding his head. "Even with just one eye, I could shoot better than you!"
Shen Xing looked up and said lightly, "And here I was thinking there was a problem with the parameters of the cannon you built. Is that why I can’t hit anything?"
Logan was about to retort, but then he saw several loaves of Silver Radiance Bread appear in Shen Xing’s hand, and his expression immediately changed.
"Lord, you are absolutely right. How could it possibly be your fault?" He forced a smile. "It must be that the cannon I made wasn’t calibrated properly. Let me adjust it for you."
As he spoke, he crouched his massive body down, fiddled with the cannon for a moment, and stealthily adjusted the angle.
"It’s adjusted, Lord." Logan beamed, patting his chest in assurance. "Please, work your magic! This time it’s guaranteed to hit, I swear!"
Shen Xing nodded in satisfaction and pressed the launch button again.
HUM...
The barrel began to tremble again, and the surrounding air was rapidly drawn in.
Under the gazes of Logan and the Beastmen, a massive Flame Bomb shot out!
The bomb traced a perfect arc through the air, descending toward the area where the Evil Eye was.
BOOM!!!
Firelight flared up again, even swallowing the Evil Eye whole. The violent explosion echoed for several kilometers!
"Yes! As expected of the Lord! A hit on the second shot! You’re a natural-born banging prodigy!"
One-Eyed Logan yelled at the top of his lungs, "In your presence, an Extraordinary Level monster is like a Dwarf before a Giant Dragon—one fart and it’s blown to bits!"
The other Beastmen also foolishly raised their Stone Axes and chanted along, "Blast the Dwarf! Blast the Dwarf!"
When the firelight dissipated, a huge eyeball slowly floated out from the dense Fog.
It still sported that large, bloodshot eye, its tentacles writhing slowly beneath it.
Logan: (◉)...
Evil Eye: (◉)...
All the Beastmen: (⊙_⊙)...
The atmosphere suddenly became a little awkward.
"Oh! I swear, this is definitely not your fault! It must be that I didn’t adjust it properly!"
Logan hurried forward. "Let me adjust it for you again! It’ll definitely hit this time, definitely!"
Shen Xing waved his hand, signaling for him to stop fiddling with it.
He knew exactly why two consecutive shots had missed. After all, he wasn’t a professional gunner and had no experience operating this kind of weapon of war.
And although the Land of Mist was a gamified world, everything in it was just like reality.
Just as a bow requires practice to ensure accuracy, a cannon naturally requires repeated training to improve its Hit Rate and strike the enemy.
He continued to press the launch button, firing shot after shot.
Anyway, one Large Soul Stone could sustain ten shots, so he might as well use them for practice.
Shen Xing refused to believe that he couldn’t land a single hit out of ten shots.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Flame Bombs streaked across the sky one after another, landing in the distant Fog and exploding violently.
But each bomb exploded in a different location, getting farther and farther away from the Evil Eye.
On the wall, the Beastmen and Logan acted as if they saw nothing, feigning complete ignorance.
"Again!"
Shen Xing continued to press the launch button.
It wasn’t until the seventh shot was fired, with the Evil Eye now less than 100 meters away, that a shell finally landed on the target.
BOOM!!!
Flames surged, completely Devouring the Evil Eye.
When the firelight faded, the giant Evil Eye was gone, leaving only a deep crater and some writhing tentacle fragments.
"A hit!" Logan shouted, more excited than if he had landed the shot himself. "To hit the enemy in just seven shots! Lord, you truly are a banging prodigy."
The other Beastmen caught on and joined in, "Banging prodigy! Banging prodigy!"
The Beastmen training in the open area heard them and also began to shout.
"Banging prodigy! Banging prodigy!"
The enthusiastic shouts echoed throughout the territory.
Even the distant Slave Laborers and Reina, who was practicing her sword, heard it, a look of confusion appearing in their eyes.
Shen Xing’s mouth twitched. He quickly shut them up.
If anyone nearby heard that, it would be fucking mortifying.
Then, he sent out Zha Ji to retrieve the loot dropped by the Evil Eye.

...
’Not bad. At least I didn’t lose money on that exchange.’
’And the cannon’s power has been verified. It can one-shot a typical Extraordinary Level creature, no problem—provided you can actually hit it.’
Shen Xing mused to himself. This type of cannon was powerful, but it had significant limitations.
First, there was the issue of accuracy. For a Soldier Type without professional training, the Hit Rate was probably less than one in five.
Furthermore, it was only effective against slow-moving Extraordinary Level creatures like the Evil Eye.
If it were any other Extraordinary Level monster, it would have fled far away the moment it saw a cannonball about to hit it.
All in all, this thing wasn’t as practical as a Level 3 Flame Arrow Tower.
But its strengths were its wide area of effect and immense power, which could be surprisingly effective on a large battlefield.
Just then, Logan spoke up. "Lord, I can actually make some practice shells for the Soldier Types to train with."
"A practice shell costs about 1 Soul Stone and 2 Black Iron."
Shen Xing glared at him. "And you’re only telling me this now?"
"Haha, it just occurred to me," Logan laughed, scratching his head.
Shen Xing was speechless. He then took out thirty loaves of bread and said, "Alright, go back and build a few more cannon platforms, then make more practice shells."
"I’ll find a batch of Soldier Types to specialize in operating these platforms."
"No problem, Lord!" Logan snatched the bread and walked away cheerfully toward the well.
