Breeder To The Brutal Alpha King
Chapter 317: Who’s She?
Rebecca’s POV
Kaden must have seen the panic on my face because his expression softened.
"Rebecca, calm down," he said softly, his voice remarkably steady for a man who had just been thrown like a cannonball.
"How am I supposed to calm down?" I snapped, staring in shock at the damaged stone behind him. "I just threw you across a hallway!"
"Your abilities are starting to show themselves. That’s all. You need to speak with your father, Lord Drake. He might understand what just happened. Your mother can teach you about the abilities from her bloodline, but whatever that was might have come from his."
My stomach tightened at the mention of Lord Drake. My father. I still wasn’t used to thinking of him that way.
"I’ll speak to him," I said quietly, watching Kaden slowly push himself up from the ground. His face tightened immediately, and his hand moved to his side.
That was when I saw it. Blood. A small dark drop landed on the stone floor, followed by another.
My eyes followed it upward, and my stomach dropped when I saw the dark red patch spreading near his side, actively dripping through the fabric of his dark shirt.
"You’re injured!" I gasped, my voice pitching high with alarm. "Stop saying you’re fine!"
I moved toward him before I could think better of it and carefully lifted the side of his shirt. My breath caught in my throat. A brutal, deep cut stretched along his side just beneath his ribs, sliced open by the sharp stone edges of the wall when he hit it. Blood was slowly running from it, staining his skin.
"I’ll be fine," Kaden insisted, trying to cover it back up. "I’ve already mind-linked my healer. She’s on her way."
"I’m so sorry," I stammered, my chest heaving as tears of guilt pricked my eyes. "I didn’t mean to... I swear I didn’t mean to push you that hard. I just wanted you to give me some space, and then something came out of my hands and..."
Kaden gently lowered my hand away from his shirt and looked right into my eyes to steady me. "Rebecca, look at me. I’m going to be fine. You didn’t know that would happen."
Mate is hurt, Laura whimpered inside me, her voice full of distress. Mate is in pain.
Yes, thank you, Laura. I have eyes.
Kaden carefully straightened, though I saw the pain flash across his face. "Listen to me. Since you can’t teleport back right now, I’ll make arrangements for you to leave by air. I’ll have the jet prepared, and you’ll be back home at Stone Pack in about two hours."
I nodded quickly, overwhelmed with guilt and relief. "Thank you."
"Will you wait in the main living area while they prepare the jet?" he asked.
"Yes."
"Then come."
I followed him down the quiet hallway. He walked slowly, one heavy hand clamped tightly against his side, his body slightly bent over. He was in obvious, agonizing pain, even if he was trying his absolute best to hide it behind that stubborn Alpha pride. Every few steps, his shoulders were stiff, and I could see him controlling his breathing.
As we reached the entrance of the grand living room, I noticed the stunned, wide-eyed looks on the staff members’ faces. Their heads whipped toward us, utter shock registered in their eyes as they saw me standing there, followed immediately by the horror of seeing their invincible Alpha King visibly bleeding. One maid looked like she was about to scream.
Kaden gave them one look. "I’m fine."
Nobody argued. He gestured toward one of the large, plush leather couches. "Have a seat. Someone will let you know when the jet is ready. I’m going to go upstairs to clean up before the healer arrives."
I hesitated, narrowing my eyes. "You shouldn’t be walking around. You just got thrown into a wall."
One eyebrow lifted. "By a very dangerous pregnant woman, apparently."
My mouth fell open. "This isn’t funny!"
"A little." The smallest smile touched his lips before he turned toward the stairs.
I watched him slowly climb the wide wooden staircase. His smile disappeared the moment his back was to me, and his hand immediately returned to his side. I didn’t pull my eyes away until he rounded the corner and disappeared out of sight.
Mate, Laura whimpered again.
I closed my eyes and dropped my head back against the cushion. "Great, Rebecca. Just great."
Yesterday, I had told the man he couldn’t control his temper, and today I had launched him into a wall. Wonderful progress.
I leaned back and looked around the massive, quiet room. It felt strange being here again, surrounded by complicated memories. Then another thought hit me like a sudden slap.
Logan.
I sat up straight. Where was Beta Logan? I hadn’t seen him or Alpha Kane since I arrived. The last I knew, they had both been involved in my escape and Kaden’s lost memories. Kaden had been furious when he learned the truth. What had happened afterward? What had Kaden done to them? A fresh wave of worry twisted in my stomach for my friends.
Before I could dwell on it any longer, the heavy front doors opened.
A guard escorted a young, strikingly beautiful lady into the room. She had vibrant red hair styled in a neat, polished bun and carried a black medical bag. She wore fitted trousers and a crisp blouse beneath a long coat.
I raised a brow, watching her closely. She gave me a polite, brief nod of greeting before following the guard straight up the stairs toward Kaden’s quarters.
My forehead creased into a deep frown. Who was she? The healer? Obviously. But I knew the pack healers from my time here, and I had never seen this woman before in my life. Was she new?
A weird, bitter knot formed in the pit of my stomach.
Honestly, I don’t know what my problem is... Here I am, a woman who told this man I wanted space, sitting on his couch, getting weirdly jealous over a pretty doctor walking into his bedroom. It was ridiculous.
I picked up a magazine, opened it, and told myself to push those thoughts away.
Not my business. Not my mate. Well, technically my mate, but soon he wouldn’t be.
Except I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Why was she so young? Why was she so pretty? Beautiful young women could absolutely walk into Kaden’s bedroom and...
I slammed the magazine shut with a loud snap. A passing maid jumped, and I smiled awkwardly. "Sorry."
I dropped my head into my hands. This was insane. My mind kept flashing back to him wincing in pain, bleeding through his clothes. Was he okay? Had the bleeding stopped? What was happening upstairs?
Before I even realized what my magic was doing, the air around me snapped like a stretched rubber band.
The living room vanished instantly.
My feet hit a thick, plush rug, and the heavy scent of mint and blood flooded my nose. I blinked, instantly realizing I had just teleported right into the middle of Kaden’s private bedroom.
"...you have several broken ribs," the red-haired healer was saying, her hands hovering over his bare chest.
The moment I materialized into thin air, the healer froze mid-sentence, her jaw dropping. Kaden, who was lying flat on his back on the bed with his shirt completely off, went dead still.
Both of them turned their heads at the exact same second, staring at me in absolute shock.
