Chapter 1912: The Vampire
—–
Olivia still could not understand what was happening until her senses flared. Her aura surged as several protective magic accessories activated at once.
“What is this black fog?!”
She stepped back and stayed behind the two Heroic Spirits as Elayne and Ninsun summoned their weapons.
Elayne called forth a long golden sword formed from her own wood, which hardened into gleaming golden metal embedded with dozens of spiritual jewels.
Ninsun summoned her golden staff, radiating the combined divinity of the Sun God and her own power. In her shadow, her husband stood ready to switch places at any moment.
Both had consumed several dozen Imaginarium Cores, restoring their internal spiritual energies and leaving them far better prepared for battle.
But what could possibly be approaching that made them feel so on edge?
From the shadows, footsteps echoed. Olivia’s senses sharpened as she detected an unfamiliar energy signature.
“Wait… what is this?!”
She felt an oppressive force, an element that seemed to consume everything in its path.
Amid the black fog, crimson light surged, forming jaws, eyes, and other nightmarish shapes.
Then a tall figure stepped forward.
Bright red eyes.
Long white hair.
Pale, candlewax-like skin.
An expressionless face paired with a body radiating immense bloodlust.
A tall, slender, and handsome man appeared, his features making it instantly clear to everyone present that he was not human.
“A Vampire?!” Olivia gasped. The next instant, her breath was ripped away. “Ack?!” She activated her barrier just in time to save herself. “H-He completely suppressed the oxygen in the environment?!”
Elayne and Ninsun remained wary and silent as the man approached. He wore a white shirt, black pants, and a black jacket, looking both stylish and lethally elegant.
He carried himself with incredible dignity, yet it was obvious this was not his full form. There was far more to him.
Elayne felt it first.
BA-DUM!
BA-DUM!
BA-DUM!
Something monstrous and sinister stirred within him. Within his soul. Something utterly malicious festered there, or rather, that festering horror was his soul itself: countless eyes, twisted limbs, and a form so grotesque it could shatter any mortal mind.
Ninsun sensed it moments later.
As Goddesses, both possessed natural immunity to mind-altering techniques, yet the fear they felt was very real.
“Who are you?” Elayne demanded sharply.
“A Lord of the Night. A Dead Apostle!” Ninsun added. “What are you doing here? Whom do you serve? Are you under the Tokyo Vampire Family’s jurisdiction? Have you come for Harumi?”
The man stayed silent for a moment, then finally spoke. “I have no affiliation. Although I once taught that child, I have no other connection with her.”
“Then what do you want?” Elayne asked. Her aura surged, and nature itself began spreading around them. Ninsun felt reassured as Elayne’s divine power resonated powerfully with her own, making her stronger.
“I will win the Holy War,” the man declared. He removed his white gloves, revealing black nails that lengthened into sharp claws. “For that purpose, I will eliminate you both, then the other Heroic Spirits gathered here. I speculate there are three more inside that museum.”
“…?!” Olivia gasped. “Wait! Are you a registered magus in the Holy War?! What is your name? Who is your Heroic Spirit?”
The man’s crimson eyes turned to Olivia, and the tension in the air grew even heavier.
“You can call me Noah.”
“…?”
Olivia racked her brain, trying to recall the name, but nothing came to mind. No one had registered as “Noah, the vampire” or anything similar.
Vampires, Werewolves, and Darkwood Fae were not allowed to register in the Holy War. Their immense mana allowed them to command Heroic Spirits of far greater power, which would make the entire war pointless and tilt it too heavily in their favor.
For centuries, the Holy War had always been an event created by human magicians to celebrate humanity’s history and mythology. Beings outside that history, such as vampires, werewolves, or fae, were strictly forbidden from participating.
Their very supernatural essence could warp the nature of the Holy War and turn it completely upside down.
“I am only revealing my name because you will all die now.”
Olivia’s eyes widened as she sensed his body signature. There was no Command Spell. No contract. He was not even a magus participating in the Holy War.
And yet he claimed he wanted to win it?
“For what purpose do you want to win this war?! And why?! You are not participating as a magus!” Olivia shouted. “This is simply not your business!”
“Hm,” Noah nodded. A crown made of red jewels materialized above his head. “I could not care less about your rules. The Holy Grail is a precious wish-granting artifact. Why would I not covet it for myself and my family? With it, I will finally restore Abyss. Above all, I cannot let that Sun Bastard obtain it first. My apologies… but you are all just collateral damage. So die quietly, will you?”
“What?!”
“Elayne, he’s coming!”
RUMBLE!
In a single second, Noah stepped forward and the world as they knew it shattered into countless pieces.
BOOOMMM!!!
His fist pierced through space itself. A sea of crimson energy and shadows erupted toward them, splitting the entire building in half.
Debris flew everywhere across the thankfully abandoned area.
The guards standing outside, who had not even noticed the vampire sneak inside, panicked.
“W-What is that?!”
“A-A giant fist?!”
Both gasped in disbelief as a massive crimson fist burst from within the building. The ceiling began collapsing rapidly.
“Are you out of your mind?! The entire building is going to come down if you fight like this!” Olivia screamed. She floated midair as dozens of runes circled around her.
“I don’t care,” Noah said, taking another step forward. “For my realm… for my family… I will kill you all.”
“He’s serious?!” Olivia clenched her teeth as Noah rushed straight at her.
He ignored the two Heroic Spirits and targeted Olivia instead, deciding it would be faster and more efficient to eliminate the master first.
“Perish.”
His body suddenly transformed. His clothes tore apart as his right arm swelled with immense muscle and red scales spread across his pale skin.
“Scarlet… Claw!”
CRAAASH!
“Nnnggh?!”
Olivia screamed as her barrier shattered into pieces. A giant crimson claw descended to slice her in two.
Her runes activated instantly, teleporting her away just in time. She reappeared above a nearby skyscraper, barely escaping.
“Cough, cough… I almost died… again!” she groaned, coughing violently. “In less than a week! Joining the Holy War?! My dad was right. I should never have tried this. It’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever done, damn it!”
Noah heard her perfectly from where he stood. He turned toward her direction as his body suddenly split into dozens of shadow bats that surged at her.
However…
“Heroic Legendary Sword Art.”
“Exorcizing Holy Blade!”
A golden sword coated in bright holy spiritual light struck his divided forms, slicing through every bat-like shadow.
SLAAASH!
BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!
“Tsk.”
Noah reformed rapidly, appearing atop another building. He glared at Elayne and Ninsun with clear anger.
“A nature spirit wielding exorcizing blade arts only taught in the Batican? Who would have thought?” he asked.
“Batican?” Elayne laughed. “These are self-taught, child.”
“Child?” Noah’s eyebrows twitched. “I am not one for small talk, but I am fairly certain I am much older than you.”
“Older than this goddess of creation? Don’t make me laugh!” Elayne roared.
She clashed against him in a violent explosion of golden and crimson light that lit up the sky.
