Chapter 1891: The Next Morning, Mama Is Back

—–

It had been a long week since Elena and her friends battled the Mangaka and then fought desperately against Avenger, the monstrously powerful Heroic Spirit who had nearly killed them all. Only her mother’s intervention had saved them. Elayne had exhausted nearly all her energy and divinity to stop him once and for all.

Since then, Elayne had been unable to unleash most of her power. She remained in a dormant state within Elena’s Spiritual Heart. Elena had not realized that although her mother possessed her own energy source, she was simply too powerful. The more intensely she fought, the more energy she required.

After a week of rest, however, while Elena continued attending classes as usual and never left the safety of the Amaterasu Clan territory amid the Holy War raging outside, Elayne finally recovered enough energy to manifest by her side that Monday morning.

Although Elena visited her mother almost every night in her dreams, where she consumed the Spiritual Herbs, Fruits, Roots, and other resources growing in the Spiritual Realm Elayne had created, strengthening her Spirit Roots, Elayne was still overjoyed to finally spend more time with her daughter instead of waiting anxiously until nightfall every day.

“Good morning, dear. Time to wake up~ Wakey, wakey,” she chuckled, poking Elena’s nose with a warm smile.

“Uh?” Elena slowly opened her eyes, then widened them in surprise. “Mom! You’re back!”

She shed a small tear and immediately hugged her mother. Elayne chuckled softly and rested beside her daughter on the bed.

“Yes, I’m back, sweetheart,” Elayne said. “Alright! Time to wake up, take a bath, and get ready, okay?”

“Uh-huh…” Elena nodded, but she stayed curled up in bed.

“Oh dear… what am I going to do with you?” Elayne sighed, gently caressing her hair. “Come on now, stand up.”

Her mother helped her slowly sit up, then brought her a glass of cold water to drink and feel more refreshed. Elena always woke up with a dry throat.

Afterward, with her mother’s help, she dragged herself to the bathroom, took a relaxing bath, and emerged to dress in her uniform once again.

She had spent the weekend mostly cultivating her mana and spiritual energy using the method her professor had taught her, the “Spirit Root Branching Method,” which gradually spread her Spirit Roots throughout her body and strengthened them over time.

With only a few days of cultivation behind her, Elena knew she could only grow so much. Real progress would take weeks, even months.

Still, thanks to all the Spiritual Treasures she consumed in her dreams, she was advancing far faster than anyone else.

“These powers I’m cultivating, Mom… They weren’t originally mine, right?” she asked. “When I summoned you as a Heroic Spirit, we formed a connection, and that power within you passed onto me as well. Is that correct? Or am I mistaken? I’m still trying to process and understand it properly.”

“Does it upset you that it wasn’t yours originally?” her mother asked gently while grooming Elena’s long black hair.

“No, no, don’t worry about that,” Elena replied. “I’m just… I don’t know. I’m trying to understand it better.”

“Hm, I see,” Elayne nodded. “Well, let’s start with the basics. What happened isn’t that complicated. You already had your own Spiritual Heart, Physique, and Magic Circle, right? When you summoned me, my Heroic Spirit form—or rather, Divine Spirit—turned you into its vessel. I am a pseudo-Divine Spirit, unable to possess my own true body, as that would break the rules.”

“So you still exist within the rules! I thought we were violating them,” Elena said. “I guess that’s for the better.”

“Yeah,” Elayne nodded. “This body you see here is created using my spirit power and magic. Usually, Heroic Spirits can materialize their bodies by default, but I have to use spells to create mine.”

“That’s sad…” Elena sighed. “I’m sorry for being so weak, Mom…”

“You’re not weak, dear,” her mother replied with a kind smile, patting her head. “The majority of my being resides within your Spiritual Heart. As we live together, that power is slowly being absorbed by your body, giving birth to the Spirit Roots you recently obtained. You also absorbed the catalyst you used to summon me, which probably boosted that power even further.”

“I see…” Elena nodded. “Then I have to use this power to grow stronger…”

“You’re being too hasty. Relax,” her mother said. “Focus on your own life, on your friends, on what you want to do…”

“But Mom, the Holy War and everything else…” her daughter muttered.

“I know it’s important, but I don’t want my daughter troubling herself over things she shouldn’t,” Elayne sighed. “You’re still young. You should be enjoying your teenage years, experiencing new things, learning about the world, and discovering what you truly want, not focusing solely on growing stronger and fighting monsters. I wish I could have given you that kind of life. It’s… it’s all my fault. All of this… I… I’m sorry…”

“Mom…” Elena noticed her mother suddenly beginning to cry after she finished grooming her hair. Tears fell to the floor, slowly causing grass and flowers to bloom where they landed. “It’s fine… It’s not your fault, Mom. We were all thrown into this against our will. We could never have known so many things would happen.”

“…Hm,” her mother nodded, feeling slightly better as Elena hugged her and kissed her cheek. “I… I guess you’re right.”

“It’s fine,” Elena said. “Um, I was thinking about integrating you into my daily life. I don’t want you to just be a ghost all the time. I want you to be by my side, physically.”

“But my identity should be kept a secret. What if Olivia and Anna’s mother finds out about me? They will clearly become confused if they see me as I am…” Elayne said.

“Hm, I know,” Elena nodded. “But they’re good people and understanding. I think they will accept it and help us.”

“We just have to trust them, Mom. You’ve always believed in trusting people,” Elena continued. “I know we’ve been through so much that it’s now hard for you to trust others, but…”

“No, you’re right…” Elayne nodded, smiling lightly. “Ah, Elena… you’ve really grown up, haven’t you? I remember when you were always the one I had to lift up because you felt down… Now look at you. You’re the one helping me feel better. Thank you, sweetheart.”

“A-Ah… it’s fine…” Elena muttered, feeling embarrassed. “It’s been years, you know… I am growing up as a person. I can’t stay like the dumb kid I once was… And I have already apologized a lot for how I treated you years ago… But still, I’m sorry… for worrying you, for blaming you for things that were never your fault… I was stupid and didn’t know how to deal with my own feelings.”

Elayne smiled, tears streaming from her eyes as she hugged her daughter tightly and kissed her forehead. “It’s fine, my baby… it’s fine… I never held any grudges against you. You’re my dear daughter…”

“Then what do you think?” Elena asked. “Wanna join the Academy somehow?”

“I-I… I don’t know, but… well,” Elayne muttered. “Okay?”

Elayne had no idea what she was getting into…
