Chapter 1876: Divine Guardian
Chapter 1876: Divine Guardian
—–
A heroic spirit with sufficient divinity could manifest a Divine Treasure, but more than two was unheard of throughout history—even when gods were permitted to be summoned in these wars.
Until now.
Elayne had been summoned as a Pseudo Divine Heroic Spirit. She carried both her own history as an Unseen Hero who sacrificed herself for her children and a fragment of the myth of the Primordial Titan, mother of Nature, Life, and Earth.
Thus…
“Axis Mundi: Pillars of the World Soul!”
Dozens of pillars surged forth, each bearing the very lifeforce and spiritual energy of the planet itself. Avenger was finished. His colossal body—an amalgamation of red clouds, thousands of planes, and bombs—exploded and disintegrated as the pillars pierced straight through his being.
“GUUAAAAHHHHHHHH!”
Unable to maintain his calm demeanor, the embodiment of humanity’s desire for war and conquest screamed. The White Rider unleashed a horrifying cry.
His very existence was being exorcised!
This was the power of Gaia Matter, Axis Mundi, the metaphysical “world axis.” A formidable Divine Treasure created to stabilize the world’s order, it could dispel all curses and possessed the ability to seal any being that threatened the planet’s integrity.
Yasuke gazed at the glorious spectacle, realizing that Elayne was far more than just Gaia, the Greek Titan.
No—what composed her Divine Spirit Core were three beings fused into one.
Her mind, personality, and memories: Elayne.
Her body, power, and divinity: Gaia.
And…
Her purpose, spirit, and authority: Earth.
Or, as some would know her…
The Voice of the World.
“Y-YOU’RE…! THIS CAN’T BE! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?! HOW COULD THEY SUMMON YOU HERE?!”
Avenger realized the truth as he was completely obliterated. His body twisted in agony, desperately transforming into dozens of War Gods in one final attempt to fight back.
“The world has been threatened too many times,” Elayne spoke in a different voice, as though her being had suddenly merged with another. “I was summoned here for a purpose—as a Ruler—not only to restore order to this Holy War, but also… to protect this world. And I will begin with you.”
“BUT WHY DON’T WE COOPERATE?!”
The God of War charged across the skies. Ares, Mars, Sekhmet, Asuras, and countless other divine manifestations erupted from Avenger’s dying spiritual body in a last, frantic bid for survival.
“…?”
She turned her gaze toward him as her pillars of light and hands crushed countless Vengeful Divine Spirits—manifestations of War Gods from every mythology.
“Your true purpose is to protect the planet, not humanity! You and I share a similar purpose! I was summoned to destroy humanity! I will cleanse this planet of its filth, as the Lord has commanded me! Once all sin is gone, I will naturally disappear, and you can remain in this cleansed world!”
“That’s… indeed true. There are protocols within my core that require me to stop humanity from destroying the planet… but at the same time… I share a heart with a human. Thus, I now contradict myself.”
“…?!”
Avenger felt an overwhelming dread as Elayne’s eyes fixed upon him.
She was not merely an automated guardian of the planet, like the one that had appeared millions of years ago to defeat the monstrous threat from outer space, the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs.
No, she was far more. She also carried the will, memories, and soul of Elayne, Elena’s mother, and the bond that had made her summoning possible.
“Although one side of me despises humanity, another believes they are my children and must be protected. And finally, there is a third side that sees them as my equals,” Elayne spoke three contradictory truths, each drawn from one of her three existences: the Voice of the World, Greek Gaia, and herself.
“I see…”
Avenger smiled in disbelief as the pillars of light completely consumed him. His War Gods amounted to nothing more than distractions, yet they bought enough time for his master to escape through a dimensional gate portal, vanishing from the scene.
His spiritual cores began to shatter, cracking and exploding one by one. Elayne’s palm grasped his spiritual essence and started to destroy it, purifying it utterly.
“Begone from this War, Avenger!”
“This isn’t… the end yet… I…! I—”
“Accept your fate.”
She pressed her hands tightly together, compressing Avenger within her titanic palms. His immense power proved utterly unable to resist a Guardian of the Planet’s Subconscious itself.
Crack, crack…!
CRASH!
“AAAAAAAAGGHHHH!”
BOOOMMM!!!
Until Avenger was no more. His familiars and manifestations perished with him. The entire Domain was purified by Elayne, transforming into a new space under her control.
Still carrying the power of that “Mangaka” Spirit and Avenger’s immense Mana, she quickly refined it all into her own pocket dimension—a personal Realm—fusing it with the ethereal spiritual realm within Elena’s Spiritual Heart.
“It’s done,” Elayne sighed. “His master escaped, but I don’t care about her.”
“Incredible… you held so much power…” Yasuke said. “Why didn’t you use it earlier, Ruler?”
“As I said, it would have endangered everyone’s lives,” Elayne replied. “And above all, it places a great burden on my daughter, Elena. That’s why I had to ensure her friend led her to safety first and then shared their Mana with her.”
“…!” Yasuke finally understood. “I see… Thank you. I don’t know what else to say, honestly. You were incredible. I’m relieved to have you as my ally.”
“Me too. You are a reliable warrior, Yasuke,” Elayne nodded. “Very well then—let us return.”
With a snap of her fingers, the entire domain shattered and vanished. Elayne and Yasuke returned to their masters’ sides, shifting into purely spiritual forms—completely invisible.
“Haaaa… Is it done?” Elena sighed in relief. She found herself in the center of Matsuo’s house, seated atop a Magic Formation and covered with hundreds of talismans that infused her with Spirit Energy and Mana. Most of them burned away to ashes as their energy depleted in seconds.
“It’s done,” Elayne and Yasuke materialized beside Elena and Harumi—for all the students and family members to see. There was nothing left to hide.
“Mom…” Elena exhaled in relief, hugging Elayne tightly and shedding a few tears. “I’m so glad you made it… I was so worried… Ugh…”
“I’m fine, dear. Don’t worry,” Elayne smiled warmly, returning the embrace. “Avenger is no more.”
“Y-You slew him?!” Harumi asked. “Wait—Assassin, is that true?”
“Yes,” Yasuke nodded. “I witnessed it myself. Mother Gaia—I mean, Ruler—she destroyed the White Rider, Conquest, one of the Four Horsemen.”
“T-That’s insane! How was one of the Four Horsemen even summoned?!” Harumi asked in disbelief. “That’s completely messed up! I thought that wasn’t allowed?! Wait—how do you even summon something like that as a heroic spirit anyway?!”
“For a moment I thought that guy was Hitler—so he wasn’t?” Emily asked. “Well, that’s kind of a relief somehow.”
“He is technically Hitler and every other dictator, warlord—any figure prominent in war and responsible for the deaths of millions,” Elayne explained. “He is the embodiment of humanity’s own self-destruction: War, Conquest, Bloodshed.”
