Chapter 1855: Let’s Have A Talk
Chapter 1855: Let’s Have A Talk
—–
After Elena awakened her Dual Spiritual Root and demonstrated her remarkable potential, she quickly became far more popular. During break time, numerous students flocked to interact with her and her friends, creating quite a stir throughout the academy. Rumors of a girl possessing immense magical and spiritual power spread like wildfire, drawing even students from other classes to come see her for themselves.
“So you’re Elena, huh?”
“Oh right, you’re the exchange student!”
“Nice to meet you.”
“Hey, can you show us your magic power?”
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
“Dude, shut up.”
“Do you want my lunch?”
“Wanna hang out after class?”
Dozens of people surrounded her! Elena was completely overwhelmed; she had never imagined that displaying power in this school would make someone so instantly popular. Back at the Clock Tower, despite consistently excelling in nearly everything, she had never once been praised or acknowledged for her strength.
Prejudice overshadowed true talent there. The families in charge always preferred to ignore her and lavish praise on far less capable individuals—simply because those individuals came from bloodlines tied to wealth and long-standing history within the Magus Society.
Even so, Elena still didn’t enjoy too much attention and soon felt swamped. Her friends tried to help shield her, only to find themselves equally mobbed by people eager to befriend them as well.
“Please, I… I’m new here. I don’t know who anyone is yet. I would like some time before we do anything together, but I truly appreciate everyone’s kindness in wanting to befriend me,” Elena said politely, offering a gentle smile that left many of the boys and girls utterly charmed by her striking Western beauty.
“Aw, come on!”
“You don’t have to be shy! I’m—”
Suddenly the air turned cold and still. Everyone fell silent as a dark presence moved through the crowd. People instinctively parted to let the figure approach Elena.
The newcomer wasn’t overtly intimidating, but she was strikingly beautiful: a young Dhampir with short black-red hair, sharp crimson eyes, needle-like canine fangs, and slightly pointed ears that immediately marked her as vampiric—even without the aura of blood energy and shadows that surrounded her.
“It’s Harumi…!”
“What does she want with the new girl?”
“Isn’t she the heir of the Vampire Family?!”
Several students began retreating toward their classrooms as Harumi stared silently at Elena. The two girls locked eyes, each fully aware of the other’s secret.
“Elena… Wanna talk alone somewhere else?”
“…Yeah.”
Elena made no attempt to feign ignorance and simply nodded. Together they left the classroom and climbed the stairs to a small, quiet, seldom-visited library filled with basic magic spells and cultivation methods.
There, Harumi conjured a barrier of shadows and stepped inside, gesturing for Elena to follow. But before Elena could enter, a divine spiritual hand gently touched her shoulder.
“Elena, wait. Be careful. She is one of the Masters of the Holy Grail. Are you certain entering a shadow domain created by her is safe, daughter?”
“I want to believe in her. She’s friends with Matsuo and… well, didn’t we already negotiate with her and her heroic spirit before?”
“Hmm…”
“You’re being a little too paranoid, Mom.”
“I… will remain on guard regardless. My duty is to protect you as well.”
“Okay. Thank you.”
Elena nodded and stepped through the shadow barrier, finding herself in an endless eclipsed world: a garden of red and black roses beneath a sunset sky split between the darkness of night and the faint crimson glow of the setting sun.
In the distance stood Harumi, accompanied by a large man clad in black samurai armor. He wore the mask of a ferocious oni—bulging eyes, long tusks—and his sword remained sheathed. No killing intent emanated from him.
“Welcome, Elena. This is my Magic Domain.”
“Magic Domain? Wow… How did you even create something like this?”
“You don’t know? I thought someone of your caliber would be familiar with them.”
“I… I mean… um…”
“Well, a Magic Domain is a separate space within our world that we refine and claim as our own. It often takes the form of what lies deepest in our hearts.”
“Don’t you need a core for them?”
“Sometimes you can become the core yourself. There are several types. This one I forged using only my magic.”
“Wow… you’re amazing, Harumi.”
“Is… that so?”
Harumi suddenly flushed lightly and fidgeted with her hair, looking shy.
“So… well, I brought you here to discuss something important, Elena.”
“The Holy War, right?”
“Yes, exactly. This is my Heroic Spirit, Assassin.”
“It’s good to see you again, young lady.”
Assassin greeted her with perfect politeness, which only made Elena wonder even more how someone like him had qualified for the Assassin Class in the first place.
“Where’s Ruler?” Harumi asked.
“You want to see her? Well, Mum’s…”
“Mum? What?” Harumi raised an eyebrow.
“Ahh! I mean…”
Elena grew instantly nervous, realizing she had started babbling. Before she could recover, a surge of green and golden aura erupted from her body, swiftly coalescing into the form of her mother’s heroic spirit.
A tall, beautiful demigoddess manifested. The gloomy garden around her responded at once: roses lengthened, dark trees rose toward the sky, and her radiant presence filled every corner.
“I am here,” she announced. “I apologize for Elena—she’s a little nervous about all of this. None of us ever intended to participate in the Holy War to begin with.”
“Wait, you didn’t?” Harumi asked. “But… don’t tell me you entered by accident? That’s absurd… you need a catalyst, a special magic circle, and much more…”
“Well, um, it’s complicated,” Elena sighed. “I…”
“It simply happened. We owe you no explanation,” Elayne said with a confident smile that caught Elena by surprise. “Now, dear, would you please tell me what you needed to discuss with my Master?”
“…” Harumi felt the weight of Ruler’s piercing gaze. The dense divinity radiating from the Heroic Spirit was undeniable and made her tense. “I… just wanted to talk and address what’s happening. After all, we can’t pretend we don’t know each other when we’re studying in the same academy now, don’t you agree, Elena?”
“I do,” Elena nodded. “If that’s all you’re worried about, don’t be. I won’t mention the Holy War to anyone.”
“That’s a relief,” Harumi said. “Well… I also wanted to discuss our next steps. What do you intend to do? Do you also wish to win?”
“Yes, we do,” Elayne answered, noticing Elena hesitate over the question.
Harumi looked down and sighed. She had secretly hoped they lacked strong ambitions, but in the end, a Wish was something almost anyone would desire. “I see… Why do you seek the Holy Grail’s Wish?”
“To…” Elena glanced at Elayne. “To revive my mother…”
“…!” Harumi’s eyes widened. She fell into a deep silence, realizing Elena’s wish carried noble weight. “I… I understand…”
“And yours?” Elena asked.
“I want to save my brother, Mammon,” Harumi replied. “Half a year ago he was caught in a battle between Demons and Angels. An Angel struck him with a Celestial Weapon, and since then his soul has been steadily deteriorating. We’ve tried everything, but it feels hopeless. Even Mother has given up and only mourns him now. I hate that everyone abandoned him… but with the Wish… maybe I can heal that wound.”
Elena and Harumi stared at each other awkwardly for several long moments after revealing their deepest desires. Then Elena spoke.
“I… I guess we both want the Wish to save someone we love.”
“Yeah, we do… which makes everything even more complicated, ugh,” Harumi sighed.
“Master, let’s return to the point,” her Heroic Spirit whispered in her ear.
“Ah, right,” Harumi nodded. “I wanted to propose an alliance. I know we both aim for the Holy Grail’s Wish, but until then, why don’t we work together to defeat our enemies? Then, once only the two of us remain, we can settle everything in one final match between our Heroic Spirits.”
“…Oh,” Elena’s eyebrows rose. “That sounds good. Mom, what do you think?”
“Hm, well, I had considered something similar earlier,” Elayne nodded. “I would gladly form an alliance. You don’t seem like a bad girl, Harumi.”
“Ah, thank you,” Harumi said shyly.
“However.”
The air grew deathly still. The wind ceased moving, and Elayne’s eyes blazed with bright gold and green divine light.
“Is it really worth it?”
“Eh?”
Elayne fixed her gaze on Harumi, then on her spirit.
