Bound To The Alpha Brothers [BL]

Chapter 86: Final Decision

The summons came before the morning had fully settled. The brothers alongside Levi had been summoned, and they were to report immediately.

By the time Kai and Levi reached the black-stone doors, the others were already inside.

Aaron stood near the far window with arms crossed. Dexter occupied a place closer to the desk, while the old Alpha waited behind the desk itself, not seated. When the doors opened and Kai walked in with Levi at his side—close enough that their scents mixed, the older man’s face darkened.

"You arrive together," the Alpha said. The words were flat. "After everything that happened in that hall. After the northern representatives left in a state that will take years to repair. Explain to me, Kai, what the way forward is supposed to look like now."

Kai did not take the place that had always been his at the right side of the desk. He stopped in the center of the room with Levi slightly behind his shoulder and met his father’s eyes without the old careful neutrality.

"There is no way forward," Kai said. "Not for me and Flora. I will not marry her, and I will not raise another man’s child as my own."

The silence that followed was sharp.

The Alpha’s jaw flexed once. "The pregnancy can be handled. There are physicians, there are options. The alliance does not have to die with a single false claim."

"It is not only the pregnancy." Kai’s voice stayed level, but something underneath it had hardened past the point of negotiation. "It is trust. She stood in this house and built a future on a lie while I prepared to mark her in front of two packs. I cannot trust her. And I will not spend the rest of my life measuring every word and every absence against the possibility of another public humiliation."

He paused. The next words cost him less than they would have a week earlier.

"Besides. I have already made a choice."

He turned his head toward Levi—just long enough for the room to register the direction of his attention—then looked back at his father.

"Levi has chosen me. We will leave for the secondary mansion tomorrow. I think it is time I experienced life away from this family and its politics, even if only for a while."

The room went still.

Aaron’s head snapped toward Levi so fast the motion was almost violent. The betrayal landed in his face before he could lock it down. Dexter’s expression cracked into something between disbelief and cold fury, the careful satisfaction of the previous days wiped clean. The old Alpha went white around the mouth.

"What did you just say?" the Alpha asked.

"I said Levi has chosen me," Kai repeated. "We leave tomorrow."

"And the alliance?" The older man’s voice rose for the first time. "The northern packs. The treaties. The future this territory has spent years building. You would throw it aside for a blood-debt omega who was never supposed to be more than payment?"

"I don’t care about the alliance anymore." Kai’s hands remained at his sides, steady. "You are the ruler of this pack. You will figure something out. That was always your role. Mine was to be perfect. I am finished with that role."

Aaron’s voice cut across the space, low and rough.

"Levi. Is this true?"

Levi stood under the weight of four different stares and did not speak.

He did not need to. The silence itself was the answer. He had chosen in the quiet of his rooms while the hall still smelled of scandal and ruined ceremony. He had weighed Aaron and the unresolved mess of Merrick, Dexter and the cold obsession, and the first heir who had finally stopped performing, and had chosen the best option. Aaron couldn’t blame him, the Alpha would do the same if he were in Levi’s shoes. He held Aaron’s gaze for a second, then looked away.

Aaron’s world collapsed in the set of his shoulders and the sudden absence of expression on his face. He stared at Levi as if the omega had become a stranger wearing a familiar scent. Then he turned on his heel and walked out of the study without asking for dismissal. The door shut hard enough to rattle the frame.

Dexter found his voice.

"This is nonsense. Kai was never one of the options. Father’s order was clear—Aaron or me. You do not get to invent a third path because the northern match collapsed."

"It does not matter what the original options were," Kai said. He did not raise his voice. "You cannot force him to choose you. Neither can Aaron. The choice has been made."

Dexter’s pale eyes moved from Kai to Levi and back again. For a moment it looked as if the third prince might close the distance and settle the argument the way he had settled other problems: quietly, permanently, without witnesses. Then the old Alpha’s scent spiked with pure dominant fury, and the moment passed.

"Enough."

The Alpha’s single word carried the full force of the territory’s head. He looked at Kai as if seeing him for the first time and finding the image unacceptable.

"You will not leave this house on a whim. You will not take the omega and vanish to a secondary property while the northern alliance burns and your brothers tear what is left of this family apart. You will stay, and we will repair what can still be repaired."

Kai met the stare without flinching.

"No," he said. "We will not. I have made my choice, and Levi has made his. We leave tomorrow. Nothing you say this morning will change that."

The old Alpha’s hands curled against the edge of the desk. For the first time in living memory, the first heir of the territory had looked at him and his authority and refused it.

Levi remained still at Kai’s shoulder. The three marks on his throat felt heavier than they had in the gallery. Aaron was already gone, Dexter’s silence had turned sharp and calculating, and the old Alpha looked like a man watching the last controllable piece of his house’s future walk out of reach.

Kai did not care. He had chosen himself, he had chosen the omega standing beside him, and tomorrow, for the first time in his life, he would walk away from the politics, the perfect image, and the house that had demanded both—and he would not look back.
