[BL]The Matchmaker Guide Doesn't Want Love
Chapter 222: Ch 222: Pleased to meet the Guest - Part 4
Writing
In the end, there was no way to stop Noah from joining the Esper-Guide Association. He was ready, and if he was stopped, he would just find another way.
Since Daniel and Alan knew this, they decided to allow him to join under their protection.
Noah confidently followed them after packing his things and locking up the house.
He might be locking this door, but he had every intention of coming back here once he was done with what he was supposed to do.
Noah’s current goal was to take the head researcher down and destroy the labs and anything that had to do with them.
He had a feeling that if he did not do this, then someone else would suffer. Just like in his vision...
’I need to make sure that my vision never comes to pass. Those kids deserve better. I cannot divert my eyes away from the truth anymore.’
Because Noah had been a victim, he felt like it was his duty to protect the others from the danger posed by the labs and the head researcher. And that was what he was going to do as well.
"Are you sure about this? You still have time to back down. If you are doing this because you want to follow us, then we can quit-"
"It’s fine. There is no need for you to quit. And even if you do quit, I have stuff to do, so I will be joining the association anyway."
Noah assured Daniel for the fifth time, causing him to bite his lip in agitation. But he decided not to say anything more.
Alan had calmly accepted his desire to join the association... no, rather, he was planning something else, but Noah did not bother to ask him what.
They reached the association headquarters, and Noah was suddenly surrounded by the other espers, who looked awkwardly at him.
It was clear that they wanted to say something, but they were unable to because of Alan’s presence.
Finally, their brave leader took a step forward and started speaking.
"Sir, you need to come with us. We will get you settled in while Alan and Daniel report their return."
The leader flinched as soon as he looked behind Noah. The other two were glaring at him again, so Noah decided to help him out.
"Alright, that sounds acceptable. I will see you both after you are done reporting in."
Noah waved at Daniel and Alan and headed inside before they could say anything to him.
He noticed how they glared at the espers from the association. They were all flinching, and he decided to start walking quickly so that it would give them an excuse to get away from this tense atmosphere.
The espers looked thankful for this and led Noah inside. The situation calmed down considerably once they were out of Alan and Daniel’s range.
And now that Noah was relaxed and with these espers, he decided to observe them. He felt like there was something familiar about these people.
He was sure he had seen them before, and not on TV.
The first thing he noticed was how young they all were. They also looked similar in age and body structure.
But most importantly, their esper powers felt really similar to one another. It was almost as if they had been artificially enhanced using the same source...
Noah felt a sudden doubt in his mind, which he shook his head to get rid of. There was no way these were the same kids from the labs...
But it was not as if he recalled what those kids looked like, except for Alan and Daniel.
The only reason he remembered the pair was that he had made a conscious effort not to forget them despite all the pain he was in.
But this coincidence felt like too much...
Unless...
’This is not a coincidence at all. Wait! Who is the leader of the Esper-Guide Association?’
Noah had never questioned this before, but now he felt curious. Had he truly fallen into a trap?
Noah followed the espers through the corridors, keeping his expression calm even as his suspicions continued to grow.
The more he observed the people around him, the more he felt that something was wrong, and by the time they stopped in front of a large office, he had already begun to suspect that his decision to join the association might have been a terrible mistake.
"Please wait here for a moment. The boss is waiting for you inside."
The esper leading him said with a stiff smile before opening the door and gesturing for Noah to enter.
Noah took a deep breath and stepped inside, only to find a familiar man sitting behind the desk with a stack of documents in front of him.
The man raised his head, and the moment their eyes met, he smiled as if he had been waiting for this reunion for a very long time.
"I told you that you would come back to me eventually, Noah."
The head researcher said in a gentle voice, his expression almost affectionate as he set down his pen.
Noah’s heart sank, but he did not allow his expression to change.
He had suspected this possibility, yet seeing the man sitting in the highest position within the Esper-Guide Association made the truth much harder to ignore.
Now it made sense why this man had seemingly unlimited budget and so much respect.
"So, this is where you have been hiding."
Noah replied calmly, walking towards the desk without showing any intention of backing away.
The head researcher chuckled at his response and leaned back in his chair, looking at Noah as though he were an amusing child who had finally returned home after wandering too far.
"Come now. There is no need to speak as if we are strangers. It is time for you to return to the labs, Noah. You have been away for long enough, and there is still plenty of work waiting for you."
Noah remained silent for a moment before shaking his head.
"I can return to work, but I want to work in the field as a field guide."
