[BL]The Matchmaker Guide Doesn't Want Love
Chapter 180: Ch 180: New Beginnings - Part 5
On the edge of a beautiful village stood a small house surrounded by flowering fields and green patches, and it was rumoured that there lived a miracle doctor in that house.
According to the rumours, the doctor in that house had managed to attain immortality and thus looked far younger than his wisdom indicated.
Some called him an esper, while others called him a wizard. But they all agreed that if you had a problem, it was best to head to that house and ask for help, and if you were lucky, you would get treated and not even have to pay for it.
But the couple currently heading towards that house on the outskirts was willing to pay anything if it meant that their kid was going to survive the night.
He had suddenly broken into a fever so high that it was worrying. The couple did not know what they could do, so that miracle doctor was their last resort.
The mother packed all of her jewellery to offer as payment, and the father packed all his devices and watches. These precious gifts paled in comparison to their son’s life.
They trekked along the path and soon reached the beautiful fields, and that was when they finally saw him—the one they all called a wizard.
But in their eyes, the person who stood in the fields did not look like a wizard or an immortal. He just looked like a lonely and tired young man who was watching time pass by but was unable to do anything to stop it.
They dared to take a step closer, and the man finally looked at them with his tired eyes.
"Sir, our son—"
"Please bring him here. I will take a look at him."
The couple had not even finished speaking when he gestured for them to come inside. It was as if he had read their minds and knew they needed help.
So they followed him inside and put their son on the bed as they had been instructed to.
"I will check your son now. If you feel like I am crossing the line, then shake me and call my name. I am Noah."
The man introduced himself as he closed his eyes and concentrated. There was a warm feeling in the room that made the couple relax, and when Noah opened his eyes, he suddenly looked far older than he was.
In that moment, it was easy to believe him if he claimed to be an immortal who had come here to help them out, and the couple felt hopeful.
"Sir—"
"Your son has awakened as a Grade B esper, and this fever is a result of this awakening. I have lowered it as much as I could, but he will need rest. This is not dangerous, despite it looking like this."
Noah assured the couple, who looked surprised but thankful at the same time. They had not expected their son to awaken as an esper.
"Are you sure he will be fine—"
"Mother?"
The child opened his eyes and looked around, which felt like a miracle. He had not been able to get up at all these past few days, and the mother felt relieved just to see those beautiful eyes again.
Noah watched this reunion with tired eyes, but he nodded soon.
"I am sure the child will be fine. But you better get some guiding medicine for him if you want him to remain fine. Don’t worry. They are not expensive these days, so you will surely get some."
Noah assured the pair, who looked shocked, but then they looked at him with determined eyes.
"Sir, you have helped us a lot. Please tell us what we can do in return. Do you want money? Jewels? Anything else?"
The couple was not ungrateful enough to forget the favour Noah had done for them.
Even if he said that it had not been dangerous, they had a feeling he had still done something to help their son out. And they wanted to repay this favour.
Noah knew their intention, so he also knew that this pair wouldn’t feel at ease until he gave them something to do.
"Well, send me something to eat tomorrow, and we can call it even. For now, you should head back and spend more time with your son. It is important for him to feel settled in his life as an esper."
He pointed this out, and the young couple nodded before they picked up their son and started to head out.
But the husband looked back at him one last time and opened his mouth to say something. But Noah had already turned his attention away, causing the man to believe that it would be for the best not to disturb him.
In the end, the man left without saying much, and Noah went back to reminiscing about the past. He even walked outside to take a look at the fields again.
He eventually let out a quiet sigh and turned towards the small house behind him, but instead of going inside, he looked towards the sky and watched the clouds slowly drift above him.
It had been months since he had left the academy, and even longer since he had last seen Alan and Daniel, yet there were moments when their faces still appeared in his dreams.
He wondered if they were doing well. Of course, he kept up with the news of the outside, but he could only hear so much from it.
Noah knew that he should have stopped thinking about them by now, but some things were not so easy to forget, especially when they were the reason he had survived for so long.
He slowly touched the pendant around his neck, feeling its familiar warmth against his fingers.
"I wonder if you two are doing alright..."
A faint smile appeared on his face, but it quickly disappeared as another wave of exhaustion washed over him.
He had spent so many months helping others, yet he still had no idea how much longer he could continue living like this.
