’Is Noah alright? He was acting weirdly the last time I saw him. Did he get back to the room safely? I wanted to go and accompany him back to our room myself. But this stupid class...’

Daniel could not believe that he was being made to attend class when he should be out there, helping Noah settle back into their room.

He had not wanted to come and learn today, but Noah had argued that since he was paying the tuition for this place, he should go and attend class.

But not wanting to leave him alone, he had asked Alan to accompany him back to class.

Daniel had argued that there had been no need for this, but Alan had taken Noah’s words with a smile and decided to follow them. And that was how they both ended up being the only ones to attend the class.

Their teacher looked indifferent to their presence, and he even sighed in regret...or perhaps annoyance that he had to teach today.

As a result, they ended up in a practical lesson and were currently in a dungeon, dealing with monsters.

Well, Alan was dealing with the monsters. All Daniel did was watch from the side and frown.

"Are you sure you are not overdoing it? Do you want me to guide you?"

He asked with a frown on his face. Alan looked to be in a sour mood as he destroyed monster after monster. He showed no sign of stopping anytime soon, and that worried Daniel.

Wasn’t the esper pushing himself a little too much? Not that it was any of his business.

It was just that...he knew that Noah won’t find it nice. The other guide might get upset. Not that he would ever say those words aloud in front of Daniel and Alan.

But his eyes would be able to tell the truth.

"There is no need for anyone to guide me. I can still keep going for a long time. But if you truly want to help me, then keep yourself safe. I don’t have time to fight and look after you at the same time."

Alan’s sourness was beginning to affect his mood as well as he snapped at Daniel. Daniel did not take it to heart. After all, he knew that Alan likely did not mean any of what he said.

But still, could he not speak more gently?

It was fine if he spoke like this with Daniel, but if he accidentally slipped and used this tone with Noah...then it would be a problem.

Anyway, it was time for them to finish, and Alan blasted the last few monsters before they exited the class. This was the last one for today, and Daniel felt excited at the thought of seeing Noah soon.

Their teacher relaxed as well once he realised that the class was over. But before they could leave, Erin entered their classroom and talked with their teacher.

Their teacher glanced over at them and nodded.

Daniel stood up to walk out as well when Erin coughed to get their attention.

"Student Daniel, Student Alan, may I have some time to talk to you both? It’s about Noah."

Now this was enough to grab the pair’s attention, and they were forced to sit down.

They actually wanted nothing to do with their teacher, but since he was connected with Noah...

"Speak. What do you want from us?"

Alan asked in a rude voice, but luckily, their teacher did not take offence. Instead, he let out a chuckle and then looked back at Alan. But something about his gaze scared Noah.

’Just what is this man planning? I have a bad feeling about it.’

...

Time was running out. The labs had started to close in on Noah, and soon it would no longer be possible to keep him out of their mess by normal means.

The only way to keep Noah safe was to ensure that he left and went into hiding.

’But my soft-hearted master would never leave until these two are a problem. And that’s why, I either need to get them together or make it seem like they are together.’

Erin truly did not want to get involved in this mess, but he felt like he had no other choice.

"You both...isn’t it time for you to bond? You have been partners for quite some time, and your wavelengths suit each other. It will be safe for you as well—"

"Tsk, and who are you to tell us what we should or should not do? I thought you would be different from the rest since you were Noah’s friend. But now I see that you are the same asshole who thinks who can control our lives."

Alan stopped Erin from speaking any further by holding his hand up. His face looked rigid, but hostility shone clearly in his eyes.

Erin knew that this was an expected reaction, so he neither flinched nor showed any other reaction.

It was finally time to pull out the ultimate card.

"Well honestly, I don’t care whether you both get together or not, but I do care when the situation involves Noah. And right now, you both are causing him a lot of trouble with your presence."

It was a lie, but Erin’s confidence made it seem like he was telling the truth.

Alan was not normally triggered by such words, but his temper was truly short when it came to Noah. So he ended up grabbing Erin by the collar before anyone realised what was happening.

No one blinked as Alan’s angry eyes looked right into Erin’s.

"What the hell did you say? Would you care to repeat yourself? I don’t think I quite heard you—"

"I don’t mind repeating my words to you, student Alan. You are the one causing Noah unneeded stress. Or rather, your presence as a high-class esper is causing him this stress. Don’t you think it’s odd how his body is behaving? It is reacting to your abilities and trying to meet them. But in order to do so, it is exhausting itself."
