July 2 2026, 3:32pm.

Nyx’ara’s brows drew together as she walked into the house to find all brothers sitting in the living room as if waiting for someone she hoped was not her.

Her eyes darted from Kieran’s large arms still draped over her shoulder to the dark look on Draven’s face, and she felt her heart dip.

"G-good afternoon."

The words forced their way out of her dry lips, her heart beating in sync with the heavy pounding in her head.

For a moment, no one responded to her. No one even did as much as spare her another sideways glance— that is until Kieran spoke up and drawled;

"Our wife made a new friend at school today."

At the sound of his voice, Draven let go of his staff and lifted his head to look at her. Since the day he had gone all berserk, sadistic ogre on her, he hadn’t seen her, and now... now that she was in front of him looking all innocent like a deer caught in headlights, he couldn’t help but notice the way her jeans hugged her hips a little too intimately.

He couldn’t help but drag his eyes over her slim waist until they rolled over her curvy bosoms.

Her top was decent. It was a simple pink round-necked top that hugged her body like a glove, but the way they plastered against her, leaving little to nothing to his very wild imagination made his throat go tight.

—And faintly took him back to the moment she almost had those same legs wrapped around his waist... the time she had thrown her head back and moaned out in bliss.

He glanced away.

Focus.

"Who is our wife’s new friend?" Rhys asked from a corner of the room, and it wasn’t until he spoke up that Nyx’ara begrudgingly let her eyes drag over to his lean frame perched against a mahogany desk.

When he caught her staring, he didn’t look away. Instead, he flashed her a smug smile, let his eyes drop to her piercing blue eyes, and drawled;

"From what I saw earlier, I think he’s a very beautiful boy. So tell me, little murderer, who is he to you?"

"From w-what you saw?" Nyx’ara could not help but ask. Her eyes widened as she regarded him with cool defiance.

For a moment, she couldn’t believe that they would go as far as to stalk her. She couldn’t even begin to fathom why they would go to these lengths just to keep her locked within whatever confines they wanted to lock her in... especially since it was obvious that they hated her.

She wanted to laugh because it was laughable really; But clamping down the bubble of laughter about to rise within her throat, she lifted her head defiantly and snapped;

"He is like y-you said... my friend."

"But friends don’t look at you the way he did," Rhys said, stepping forward until he was standing less than a hair’s width away from her.

"T-that doesn’t change the fact that he-he is what he is... a friend."

Her sharp retort made the corners of Rhys’ lips twitch until they slowly curved upward. He let his head drop, leaning downwards until his lips carefully brushed over the tip of her nose, but just as that happened, she froze. Her face drained of its color and she recoiled into herself, scrunching up her nose as if he stank.

Annoyance flared at the base of Rhys’ stomach at her horrified expression. He didn’t want to kiss her, but he didn’t appreciate how she acted like kissing him was the equivalent of getting bitten by a poisonous snake.

A restless buzz thrummed beneath the surface of his skin and his muscles tightened when her scent wafted into his nose. The memory of his mouth on her neck made his body jerk, but pushing off that thought, he clipped a finger under her chin and muttered;

"This is not the time to be a spitfire, beautiful."

The endearing name should make her feel warm, but it didn’t. Instead, it made chills rise on the surface of her skin in the form of goosebumps.

"This is not the time to test how far I can go..." he continued with his thumb rubbing sensuously over her bottom lip, "...because trust me, mia farfalla, I can go really far."

Her body quivered under his touch but willing herself to remain calm, she met his eyes and whispered; "He is... Derek."

"I already know that," he shot back, "...and I know that his full name is Derek Greyhound."

So quickly? She thought to herself, remembering that she didn’t even ask him about his surname at all.

"H-he is a se-senior who majors in Data Science a-and only tried t-to show me around school today."

"So in other words, you only met him today?" Azriel snapped from the side, his voice so cold, it could freeze hell.

Nyx’ara flinched at the sound of his voice, causing her lips to part in a silent scream. Rhys, who caught that moment, slipped his thumb into her mouth and felt his entire body stiffen when her lips closed down on his flesh.

Nyx’ara’s whole body went into overdrive as soon as she tasted the saltiness of his thumb in her mouth, but just as she tried to push him off, he clamped one hand around her neck and shoved his thumb deeper into her mouth, exploring the insides of her mouth with his finger.

Her body felt hot all of a sudden and her skin prickled with a kind of heat that only he could quench. She tried to speak but with him being this close... this intimate... she could hardly get the words out.

Rhys, who enjoyed seeing her flustered, rubbed his finger over her lower teeth. His eyes were trained on her the entire time and his voice was low as he drawled;

"You mean to say that you only met Derek, Greyhound today and you let him wrap his arms around you?"

She gulped.

"You mean to say that you let a filthy beta touch what is ours because he was only ’showing you around school’?"

The way he said the words: ’showing you around school’ felt almost comical and Nyx’ara would have laughed if she wasn’t in such a tight spot.

If his finger wasn’t buried so deep into her mouth, she could feel it crawling all the way to the back of her throat.

She could only manage a stiff nod at him and her heart plummeted when his face darkened even more.

He snarled; "oh cool. Then I think we need to show hot Mister Greyhound what happens when you cross us... and as for your remaining tour around school, forget it. We’ll show you around ourselves. Is that clear?"

Nyx’ara gulped.

She nodded.

"Use your words, baby girl," Rhys drawled once more, his voice washing over her skin like a caress.

As his command echoed throughout the room, Nyx’ara’s face burned hotly. Her cheeks stung until they became so red, their color could rival that of a ripe tomato.

She lifted her head slowly to meet his eyes and with his finger still buried somewhere in her mouth, she hissed; "Y-yes. It is clear."
