Chapter 59: 59-A freak

"Maisa Loven and Sapphire Simmers. You’ll room together, come up front, and get the key to your room!"

Sapphire immediately brightened. "Roommates again. We are fated to be side by side, Love," she moved her eyebrows up and down and smiled brightly. "Side by side," she added.

Maisa managed a faint smile. "Apparently... but I wouldn’t go as far as to call it fated."

"It is fate. Whether you believe it or not, but some force out there is working to ensure our lives intertwine," she boldly claimed.

"Sure, it’s fate," Maisa gave in. She didn’t have the energy to argue with her.

They collected their keys and carried their luggage inside. The hotel itself was beautiful in an old-fashioned way.

Its walls were made of dark stone polished smooth by centuries of use. Ancient paintings hung between golden lamps, and the floor beneath their feet was carved with strange symbols that Maisa couldn’t understand.

She barely noticed any of it as they walked by. By the time they reached their room, her stomach had begun twisting uncomfortably.

She unlocked the door, and Sapphire entered first, and she followed behind and looked around. The room was spacious enough for two students, with two large beds separated by a small wooden table. Tall windows overlooked the ancient streets of Old Scaris, and a bathroom was situated behind another door near the entrance.

Maisa set her suitcase down. Breathed in the hotel air and felt a little of her stuffed lungs clear. Just then, she froze up. Something rolled violently through her stomach, coming up. She covered her mouth.

"Maisa?" Sapphire called out with worry seeing how she had turned pale.

Maisa didn’t answer her. Her eyes widened as though her sockets would roll out and run away. Before long, another wave of nausea hit her, so she spun around and rushed into the bathroom.

Sapphire said her name again. "Maisa!"

She barely made it to the basin before her body violently rejected whatever was inside her. She gripped the edges of the porcelain sin, her entire body convulsed as she opened her mouth to clear the way for whatever was coming.

Nothing came at first, but then something thick and gritty spilt from her mouth and onto the sink.

Maisa stared at the soil in her sink, her widened eyes getting even wider. She blinked and vomited again. To her shock, more dry sand and dark earth, tiny fragments of stone and grass came out of her.

Her eyes widened in horror. "What..." she didn’t get to finish talking, another painful convulsion ripped through her.

"Arghhh!" She cried out.

Her entire body hurt. Every muscle tightened as another wave forced itself through her. Her throat burned. Her chest felt as though something was clawing its way upward from inside her stomach.

She coughed violentl, and more soil fell into the basin. Maisa stared at it in disbelief. Blood was supposed to be the only thing inside her stomach, not dirt, sand, soil, or even grass.

"What is happening to me?" She questioned, feeling like a freak. How could she not feel so? No, hunan or vampire should be able to vomit what was coming out of her.

She wiped her mouth with trembling fingers. Another wave came, and she vomited again. This time, she noticed tiny roots mixed into the soil.

Her blood ran cold. She stumbled backwards from the basin. "No.... what...what is happening?"

She stared at herself in the mirror. Her dark red eyes looked terrified. Her pale face was damp with sweat. She looked like a vampire, but something was terribly wrong.

She rinsed her mouth repeatedly, cleaned the basin as best as she could, and washed her face. When she finally returned to the bedroom, Sapphire was sitting on one of the beds unpacking.

She looked up. "Better?"

Maisa didn’t answer immediately. She sat down heavily with a sigh. Her life was getting more abs more dramatic than a telenovela.

Sapphire frowned. "You’re pale."

Maisa stared at her. She couldn’t deny her assessment. She had seen herself in the mirror. Awful, was an understatement to use describe her complexion thar very minute.

"Sapphire."

"Hm?"

"Do vampires vomit soil?" She asked with ease so that Sapphier doesn’t panic.

Sapphire blinked and then burst out laughing. She found the question funny. It was like asking, can pigs fl when everyone knows that pigs don’t have wings.

Maisa glanced at her."I’m serious," she uttered, meeting her eyes firmly.

Sapphire covered her mouth, still laughing. "Okay. Okay." She wiped the corner of her eye. "I know you’re upset about what happened on the bus, but you don’t have to invent weird vampire diseases to make me feel better."

"I’m not joking. I’m asking. Very serious question here!"

Sapphire’s smile slowly faded. "If vampires drink blood, why would we vomit soil?" She asked one of her own.

Maisa swallowed. It turned out that she was right to worry. She was one such vampire who drank blood but had suffered the consequences of vomiting something else entirely.

"Maisa, vampires don’t vomit blood. They truly don’t."

That made her heart twist more painfully. Maisa turned more pale as she heard what Sapphire said. It meant that not only was she unlucky but weird, too.

She clenched her fists tightly until they whitened and gritted her teeth so hard that her jaws hurt. She sat still, unable to move or process what had happened to her.

She started thinking back to everything since she turned into a vampire and found that for a vampire, she was definitely strange.

On her first night, she zinger with four vampires... something that doesn’t happen to other vampires. After that, she was targeted by Luan, who didn’t even know her, and even when she got hurt, Varitreya fed her whiteblood.

Zolani shielded her from her siblings hunt, and she even got the privilege of being protected by the palace. It was clear that she had unbelievable luck that was equally matched with bad luck, too.

Now, she was facing the biggest horror of her life, vomiting contents of earth.

She inhaled and exhaled, but nothing could stop the suffocating feeling of something being wrong with her.

"Why did you ask that anyway?" Sapphire found it strange that she came up with such a question. "Did someone truck you by saying that vampires can vomit blood?"

’No, I vomited blood!’ Maisa wanted to scream. She held back on accounts of not being able to afford the consequences of the vampire world, realizing that she is a freak.

’I have to figure out why this is happening before anyone finds out!’
