Chapter 136: 136-The fail-safe plan (2)

"Their immortality?"

Katrina dropped back in her seat. That meant that by the time the flower blooms, Maisa’s mates will fall before the vampire nation ever does.

"Isn’t that too cruel?"

"There’s more..."

"No, I don’t want to hear it," Katrina objected.

She was the one who asked for the truth, but the ones she’d learnt were already enough to drown her soul. She couldn’t handle anymore. She regretted asking to know all the knowledge in Taratoya’s head.

Being ignorant was easier. At least, she wouldn’t carry such a heavy cross over her shoulders every day.

"The flower can be manipulated while it’s growing," she met Katrina’s eyes. "How do you think I got into Lumi’s head?"

Katrina paled farther. The more Taratoya spoke, the harder the image of the great mother fell from grace in her heart.

"Anyone who knows how and is stronger can control the vampires under the control of the flower," she announced.

"Stop talking, Teetee!"

"But the manipulator has to be stronger than the vampire in question or the one being controlled will feel the other entering their head and offer resistance and the backlash can wound the manipulators immortality," Taratoya went on. "That’s why I chose Lumi. She and Zolani might be easier to control than Addessa and Varitreya."

Katrina wanted to burst open her head and remove the parts of her brain that recorded that information.

By that knowledge, it meant that the one who activated the true heart, being a whiteblood themselves, could manipulate Addessa, Lumi, and Zolani, depending on their strength, Varitreya too.

She wasn’t comforted to know that there was a mysterious vampire out there that can control the leaders of tomorrow any time they wanted.

"That’s why I had to meet Maisa and see how far along the mastermind has gotten in his plans," she got up, strode across the room, and opened her drawer. She returned with papers and presented them to Katrina.

In them were the warnings and messages the mastermind had sent Maisa. She had even copied the manual for Maisa’s training and messages on Maisa’s blood mirror.

"This is the reason I travelled to Felor with Maisa," she explained. "I compelled her in the carriage and made her think she was awake throughout the ride while I searched her belongings and blood mirror for information."

Katrina looked up with horror. "Maisa didn’t suspect a thing?"

"No, and now I know that whoever is behind this knows that I know, warned Maisa that we were coming," she sat back down, "I attacked Maisa in Lumi’s body to see just how closely this "person" guards his future weapon and you saw how quickly that figure appeared to protect Maisa... it’s safe to say that we are all being watched."

Katrina’s was passed a point of recovery. She was nearly fainting at that point. It horrified her to learn that their every movement was being monitored.

"What..."

"Shhh!"

Taratoya’s head snapped towards the door as she felt a presence approaching. She took all the evidence and hid them before sitting back with Katrina as though they were just chilling the evening away.

Just as they settled into the role, the door swung open, and Addessa stormed in.

"Teetee! How dare you!" She yelled as she entered.

Taratoya’s eyes landed lazily on her. "What’s got your feathers in a twist?"

"How dare you send that to my mother?" Addessa pressed inside the room.

Taratoya frowned. She locked eyes with Katrina, who shared her confusion.

"I recommend you look elsewhere for your culprit, black nightmare. I am not responsible for whatever you got going on."

Addessa rolled her eyes. "Like you would admit it if you were."

Taratoya sat up, seeming triggered. Every move was elegant and had a practised charm to it. She picked a plate of grapes on the table and placed them on Katrina’s lap.

"I’ll deal with this first. Enjoy the fruits in the meantime, my sweet Kat," she said, speaking nicely. Katrina nodded, and she got up to address Addessa properly. "Now, what happened with your mother, and why are you trying to bring my roof down?"

Addessa stepped closer until they were mere inches apart. "You evil witch! Don’t act foolish... you know exactly what you did!" She was burning with anger and pain.

Taratoya sighed. She had no energy to deal with Addessa. Any other day, she would have indulged the girl, but today, she was stuck on thinking up ways to serve the unbreakable true heart bond and save her behind and perhaps even the vampire nation. She couldn’t be bothered by drama that she didn’t stir.

She took a cup from the table, slit her wrist and let her blood into the cup, and handed it to Addessa. "Why don’t you check my mind and see for yourself."

Knowing how well Taratoya was at lying, Addessa didn’t hesitate and took the cup. The blood mind search is the most honest a vampire can get. If she dipped her fingers in the blood and pressed her fingers onto Taratoya’s head, Taratoya’s blood would make Taratoya’s mind tell the truth about the matter she needed to know.

So if Taratoya had indeed got involved with betraying her to her mother, she’ll see it.

She quickly dipped her fingers in and slowly pressed them to Taratoya’s forehead and closed her eyes. Taratoya surrendered her mind to be searched, knowing she’d be innocent.

Addessa’s searched every inch and found no trace of it. She only heard a distant "true heart" in Taratoya’s mind before she pulled back.

"Blood doesn’t lie, Addie. I think we are done here!" Taratoya took out her handkerchief and wiped the blood on her forehead.

Addessa was at a loss. If Taratoya wasn’t the guilty one, who was? She had no clue.

"What is the true heart?" Addessa asked Taratoya, calming her anger slightly.

Taratoya flashed a quick smile and said nothing. ’Something that possesses a threat to my existence!’ She thought bitterly.

"I caught a glimpse of the word in your head, which means that it must have something to do with me," she pressed. "What is it?"

"It has nothing to do with your mother or the reason you are angry...therefore, I don’t feel obliged to tell you," Taratoya let out, her tone light and unbulging.

"But it has something to do with me..."

"I am a vampire with many secrets involving many vampires, Addie," Taratoya circled around Addessa, and her strides started leading towards the door. "As I said earlier, I recommend you find your culprit elsewhere. Get on with it," she opened the door and held it open for Addessa.

Addessa wanted to stay longer and find out what the true heart was, how it was related to her, and why it motivated Taratoya and Katrina to return from the front lines to come and target them. But Taratoya had already used up the limit of tolerance with her. If she insisted, Taratoya might get triggered and retaliate.

It was already a lot of consension on her part to let her in and even give her an honest answer about her questions. Pushing would end in disaster.

She cast a glance at Katrina. The vampire crashed a grape between her teeth, letting some of the juice drip out the corner of her mouth. She hid her horrors and fears from moments ago quite well.

Meeting Addessa’s gaze, she smirked and waved her beautifully manicured fingers at Addessa. "Bye, bye."

Addessa frowned. But without the skill to back her confrontation against Taratoya and her lackey, she could only retreat.

She walked away, her boots echoing each and every one of her steps. Addessa stopped by the door and locked eyes with Taratoya from one pure blackblood to pure hybrid of black and whiteblood, she lost that eye battle as soon as their eyes met.

Taratoya was dorminat through and through. She gritted her teeth and spoke, "This isn’t over."

"Is it ever?" Taratoya asked with interest. "Next time, I suggest you come prepared, my sweet nightmare. Lest you get crashed... that is," she showed her out.

Once Addessa left, Taratoya slammed the door shut and lazily walked back to Katrina’s side. She bent down at the height of the mixedblood and beamed tenderly.

"How do you rank my performance, sweetie?"

Katrina planted a grape between her teeth and lifted her chin. Taratoya’s lips cracked a soft smirk, accepting the offer. She leaned down, and just with a mischievous smile, Katrina ate it up at the last minute.

Taratoya froze before bursting out laughing. "Such a tease."

"Nothing like your cruelty."

"Mine?" Taratoya shook her head. "I’m just making sure I am still alive a thousand years from now. Is that such a bad thing?"
