Bloodbound: The Unwanted Outcast And Her Vampire Mates
Chapter 124-A set path
Chapter 124: 124-A set path
"What did you ask of Varitreya?"
Lumi swung open the huge door leading to the guestroom on the second floor of the mansion. She carried Maisa’s luggage inside and glanced back over her shoulder, her eyes full of curiosity.
"I’m not prying because I’m nosy, it’s just... you were giving this baddie vibe, so I’m curious," she clarified.
Maisa didn’t mind the curiosity. At current, of all her mates, Lumi was the only one not just willing to talk to her but also open to helping her.
She closed the door behind them and walked forward. "I just asked her to help me get closer to all of you," she said, hiding the specifics of her request.
She held back the part where she blacktied Varitreya into agreeing to deal with whoever tried to come between her and her mates.
"That’s good," Lumi’s shoulders relaxed a little. She set the luggage on the bed and unzipped it smoothly.
She took out the few clothes Maisa had inside, most were three pairs of uniforms and a dress and blazer Maisa had worn during the tour. A dress she now recognize to belong to Varitreya.
The princess was the only one who wears dresses made by Madam Senon, and that dress had her iconic mark, the soft silver embroidery at the corner.
"Don’t you have any other clothes?" She casually asked, returning the uniforns inside and only taking the dress and blazer into the closet.
Maisa shook her head. The few points she’d earned weren’t enough to buy clothes at the school malls, and she lacked currency at the moment.
"It’s fine, I’ll lend you some of mine for you to wear. Give me a moment," she said and dashed out.
Maisa barely plopped down on the bed when Lumi returned with numerous clothes on both hands, shoe bags held in her fingers.
"Let me help," she offered but Lumi didn’t let her, with a quick movements to the closet, she colour coded the arrangements of the clothes in the closet and was done in less that five minutes.
Maisa smiled. Vampire speed was another level of a cheat code. An ordinary human would’ve needed time, hours even, to do what Lumi did in a matter of minutes.
"There. Now, you have clothes for every occasion."
"Thank you, Lumi."
"We are..." Lumi paused. She had no idea what label to use. Friends? Mates? Frienlovers? It was unknown, and she was confused. "No apologies and thank yous are welcome between us," she changed the topic and didn’t dally on the lack of proper label between them.
Maisa glanced at the luxurious room and was in awe. Whether it was in the academy or just at a vocation home, Varitreya and her friends lived like royals, unlike her who was wandering left, right, center just to find a place to spend her school break.
"How come all of you are together on the school break?"
Lumi dropped on the empty spot beside her. She rested her head on her palm, laid on her side, and met Maisa’s soft eyes.
"The queen ordered it," she said. There was a tension in her jaw when she mentioned that. Maisa grew intrigued. Why would the Queen order them to spend the school break together?
"Why?"
Lumi sighed. Her heart grew heavy as she thought back to the weeks that led to the school break and how cruel they had been for her and most of the others.
"The palace revealed a week ago that we have be chosen as the next rulers of the nation in training and when Varitreya takes the throne we will take our places in the ruling government to help her rule," she elaborated.
"Congratulations, I’m happy for you."
Maisa smiled. That sounded like job opportunities for Lumi and the others after Veris Academy. She couldn’t he happier that things were looking up for them.
Her smile fell when she noticed Lumi looking more gloom than happy to be congratulated for that.
"What’s wrong? Isn’t it good news?"
"It is," Lumi agreed, but her tone suggested otherwise.
"Lumi..."
"It simply means that I’ll be succeeding my father and be Varitreya’s high council and head of her council of advisors. Luan will succeed my mother as the head of the blood council," she informed Maisa.
Both were high-ranking positions that came with the status and wealth she had always dreamt of, but she never expected to get it before she specialised.
It also meant that from now on, she was on a tight leash, and every eye was on her and not in a good way.
All who wanted favours with the future queen or just wanted to be in her good books before she took office will be gunning for her endlessly, and just thinking about it made her head ache. Not to mention the pressure from her mother and stepfather to do right by the chance she’s received.
"Is that bad?" Maisa, who still didn’t understand why she was feeling down, asked.
"After school break, second years will be required to specialise and choose subjects and classes that are in line with the careers they want, but my path is already set..." she sighed heavily. "I should be grateful, it what I’ve always wanted but..."
"You don’t feel like taking the post?"
"I don’t feel like I am comfortable having my entire life written out for me... the job I’ll have, the friends I should have, and the places I should... all of that will be monitored and controlled to ensure that I fit my role perfectly."
Maisa understood. It felt similar to her life back home. Back there, from when she woke up, where she went, and which school she attended down to the kind of company she kept was decided by Laralene and Luriel Everheart.
She trained, became stronger, and strengthened her heart to kill just to earn her place in her family. It was a nightmare. She hated every second of that legacy and having to prove she was worthy of it.
"Addessa’s status had been raised far above everyone else. From the princess’s warden and confidant, and now she is to be the future keeper of the blood archives," she let out. "That just means that she’s in charge of the archives, which gives her control the nation because she’ll be controlling blood donations, bloodline records, sire records, family genealogies, blood contracts, and forbidden bloodlines."
Maisa sat up, a shiver running down her spine. That seemed like too much power to entrust in the hands of a vampire with vendetta and no filter.
"Why would the palace do that?"
"Why else?" Lumi shrugged and laid down, facing the ceiling. "The position was originally supposed to belong to Asher, but since he’s no more, and she’s proven not just her loyalty to Varitreya but to the palace, the position was handed to her."
"Can she end the redbloods with her new position?" Maisa asked out of a place of worry.
"No, the only two powers that can do that is the crown and the royal blood court judge," Lumi answered.
Maisa released a sigh of relief, but her relief didn’t last because of what Lumi said next.
"But she can give redbloods a hard time and get away with it. After all... redbloods need blood to survive, and the archives control blood supplies in the nation."
Maisa wanted to go to the palace, find the queen, and as the queen what she had against redbloods. Why would she entrust such power onto a Challan when she knows how much they hate redbloods?
"As for the royal blood court judge, that title has been granted to Kayden, along with inheriting the title of grand Duke after his father," Lumi added. "Technically, he’ll be the next powerful figure after Varitreya in the entire vampire nation."
Maisa felt her head about to explode. Her mind drifted to the one person whose post Lumi hadn’t mentioned.
"What about Zolani?"
