Bloodbound Codex: I Grow Stronger in Secret

Chapter 243: Dual Manifestations

  • Next Chapter

Inside the Eastern Branch Guild of Solara, in the same infirmary room where Seraphiel had gone unconscious, Flora could be seen standing slightly away from the bed where Seraphiel was resting. Her expression was complex as she watched Seraphiel mutter something unconsciously, her voice too quiet for Flora to properly understand. Flora arched an eyebrow at the strange behaviour before immediately rushing toward the bed.

"Lady Seraphiel! Are you okay?! Doctor, come here! Lady Seraphiel is behaving strangely!" Just as Flora finished speaking, an elderly man entered through the door of the infirmary.

He wore a pair of glasses over his aged face, and the wings behind his back also appeared considerably older than those of the Angels normally seen throughout Solara. He was the personal doctor of the Rosaria Household, a position he had been appointed to by Dravenson himself many years ago. Despite his age, his movements remained steady as he quietly approached Seraphiel’s bed.

Flora immediately gave him some space and retreated a few steps while keeping her eyes fixed on Seraphiel. The doctor sat beside the bed and checked Seraphiel’s wrist pulse before channeling a small amount of Spirit Energy into her body. He closed his eyes as he carefully examined her condition, and after several seconds, his expression became slightly confused.

"Nothing physical is happening inside her body, but one thing is strange. Her eyes are consuming her Spirit Energy at an increasing rate. It must be a manifestation of her Unique Ability." Flora’s eyes widened as she immediately remembered what she had been taught about the manifestation of a Unique Ability.

If the ability was consuming Seraphiel’s Spirit Energy on its own, allowing it to continue without interference could potentially drain her completely, it may even result on her death. She immediately looked toward the doctor with a worried expression, "I-If that’s true, then we need to constantly channel Spirit Energy from the Greater Runes into her, shouldn’t we?!"

"Yes, we need to—" Before the doctor could finish his sentence, a sudden jolt of energy passed through his right hand while he was checking Seraphiel’s pulse.

"Khuk!"

The doctor’s eyes widened as he immediately retracted his hand and stared at Seraphiel. The reaction had been so sudden that even Flora didn’t understand what had just happened. However, the next instant, Seraphiel’s eyes snapped open.

"NOOOOOO!!!!!"

Seraphiel suddenly sat upright on the bed, her right hand stretching forward as if she were desperately trying to grab or hold onto something that was no longer there. Her fingers remained extended for several moments before slowly trembling, creating the strange impression that something had been taken away from her right in front of her.

Flora and the doctor both widened their eyes.

"Lady Seraphiel! What happened? Are you feeling okay?!"

Seraphiel’s breathing became heavy as she turned toward Flora. Her face was pale, and her expression was filled with confusion and fear as tears began flowing from her eyes. She struggled to speak for several seconds before finally muttering a single name.

"Atlas... Atlas... N-No!"

Flora became even more worried after hearing his name. She moved closer to the bed while trying to understand what had happened to Seraphiel during the period she had been unconscious, "What happened? Atlas? Why are you bringing his name up right now? Are you okay, Lady Seraphiel?!"

Seraphiel couldn’t answer immediately. Her heart felt as though it had been crushed by an emotion she had never experienced before, and the sadness spreading through her body was so overwhelming that even breathing became difficult. She had never experienced grief of this magnitude, nor had she ever imagined that simply thinking about someone could cause such unbearable pain.

Yet as the thought of Atlas dying appeared inside her mind, another realization suddenly emerged through the overwhelming emotions, ’M-My Unique Ability... was to be able to see the future.’

Her trembling eyes widened slightly as she finally understood what she had just experienced. The strange feeling that had overwhelmed her, the sudden pain, and the image that had appeared within her mind all pointed toward the same possibility, ’Th-That must be it!’

Her breathing became even heavier as another thought followed.

’B-But Atlas died in the future?’

The possibility alone caused more tears to fall from her eyes. She tightly closed them as her fingers clenched the sheets beneath her, desperately trying to reject what her Unique Ability had shown her. She didn’t want to accept it, and she didn’t want to believe that the person she had come to care about could actually disappear from her life.

’N-No, I can’t let that happen!’

Her entire body trembled as she forced herself to think despite the overwhelming emotions, ’I-I won’t let that happen! I need to save him... I need to save him right now!!’

The moment that thought formed inside her mind, something within her right eye suddenly changed. All the remaining Spirit Energy inside Seraphiel’s body began moving toward her right eye at an incredible speed, concentrating directly around her pupil. The sudden flow of energy caused her body to tremble, and Seraphiel immediately snapped both of her eyes open as the manifestation within her activated.

When she opened her eyes, her left eye still contained the pair of tiny silver clock hands that had been rotating before she lost consciousness, but they were completely motionless now. Her right eye, however, had changed entirely.

The iris had turned a deep violet, with a black vertical slit positioned at its center and a thin circular ring surrounding the pupil. Several faint geometric lines appeared across the violet iris, forming patterns resembling intersecting coordinates before disappearing again.

Neither Flora nor the doctor could understand what they were witnessing. They could only stare at Seraphiel’s eyes as the strange manifestation continued operating without her consciously activating it. The Spirit Energy surrounding her body suddenly fluctuated, and the space around her figure began to distort slightly.

Then, before either of them could react, Seraphiel’s entire figure blurred.

Her body became increasingly difficult to see until it completely vanished from the infirmary.

Flora and the doctor remained frozen in place.

For several seconds, neither of them said anything. Flora continued staring at the empty space where Seraphiel had been sitting, her mind struggling to process what had just happened. She finally turned toward the doctor, but there was nothing he could tell her either, "The Patriarch needs to be informed immediately about this! You can exit now, Doctor."

Without waiting for a response, Flora immediately left the room and hurried toward the Patriarch.

The doctor remained behind for a few more moments, staring at the place where Seraphiel had disappeared. His expression slowly became more complicated as he recalled everything he had just witnessed. He had examined countless Angels throughout his life, including people with powerful Unique Abilities, but what had happened here was something he had never personally encountered.

’She has dual manifestations of two Unique Abilities?’ The thought alone made his expression become serious.

He remembered the teachings he had received from the Academy many years ago. A manifestation of a Unique Ability occurring without the conscious decision of its wielder was already considered extremely rare, and a Unique Ability manifesting in such a manner was almost impossible unless the ability itself had a direct connection to one of the highest-tier elements, such as Time, Space, Void, or similar concepts.

Yet Seraphiel had just displayed exactly that.

Her left eye had shown the manifestation of her ability related to Time, while her right eye had demonstrated an entirely different manifestation that clearly carried the characteristics of Space. More importantly, neither manifestation appeared to have been activated through Seraphiel’s conscious decision. The abilities themselves had responded to something within her and acted on their own.

’A Space-related manifestation... acting without the conscious decision of the wielder.’

The doctor slowly adjusted his glasses as he continued thinking about what he had witnessed. He didn’t know where Seraphiel had gone, nor did he know what had caused her Unique Ability to suddenly activate, but one thing was certain: whatever had happened to her was far beyond an ordinary manifestation.

He immediately stood up and left the infirmary as well. He had no intention of involving himself in something he didn’t understand, especially when the person involved was the heir of the Rosaria Household and had just displayed a manifestation connected to one of the highest-tier elements.

The room eventually became silent again.

Only the empty bed remained, along with the faint traces of Space energy that still lingered in the air where Seraphiel had disappeared.
